$50 Cashback - Open New Suncorp Bank Account and Use Apple Pay 5 Times

1480

Open NEW Suncorp Bank Account with a linked Visa Debit card between 1st Dec 2018 and 31st Jan 2019.
Took me about a minute to open account with online verification.

Use Apple pay on 5 separate transactions by 31st March 2019 with the linked Visa debit card, to get a $50 cashback.

T&Cs: https://www.suncorp.com.au/banking/help-support/ways-to-bank…

Note
- Does not say new customers, just new bank account. List of eligible bank accounts below
- No code to enter just click through and satisfy the conditions (I guess!)
- Update - After about 10 minutes from Bank account opening, I was able to register for Suncorp App (Benefits - for egiftcard deals). Also as per this comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/422878#comment-6691569, using the browser on computer I can add the Woolworths $500 egiftcard and get to checkout/payment page.

Eligible Transaction Account includes the following Suncorp Bank accounts:
Everyday Options Account
Everyday Basics Account
Everyday Essentials Account
55 Plus Account
Cash Management Account
Wealth Cash Management Account
Freedom Access Account
Access Equity Account
Business Everyday Account
Business Premium Account

The "Everyday Basics/Options" transaction accounts are probably the most common types to open, Basic is $0/month fees, stand alone everyday transaction account. Everyday Options is currently also $0/month if you open before 28/2/2019. You can add interest-earning sub accounts to this Account.

  • These discounted gift cards specially for Coles and Woolies are they throughout the year?

    • +3

yea thats my understanding at 5% off usually. Current promo was Coles at 7% off, and Woolies still currently at 7% off.
I can now access the Suncorp App (for Benefits) using my new bank account but need to wait 24 hours to make purchases.

      • is that how to get the suncorp benefits? by opening any of these accounts?

        • Yes, one of the ways. I opened an Everyday Options account earlier and have access already :). Other ways to use existing insurance products with AAMI/GIO etc.

      • Me too. Opened this account to get 7% and now it says i need to wait until tomorrow. Of which this 7% promotion is only for 1 day too.

  • Thanks OP. Will create a new account today.

  • do you need to deposit $2k a month to avoid monthly fee?

    • +5

No. For the Everyday transactions account its $0/month (Everyday Options - only if you open before 28/2/2019).

Special Offer: Monthly Account Keeping Fee waived for new Everyday Options accounts opened from 3 December 2018 until 28 February 2019. Fee will be charged and waived for as long as the account is held.

      • +2

Will they waive the fee when I close my account?

      • When actually applying for the account, it says fees waived only for first 12 months.

'$5 monthly fee (waived for the first 12 months)'

      • I called them to enquire about this—they said that the fee will only be waived until February, however Everyday Basics is a fee free everyday account

        • so Everyday Basics can have all benefits and cash back then

        • That's very different from what the website says as pasted by scar4ace. I read the same thing as scar4ace, meaning that fee will be waved beyond Feb (as long as the account is held).

          • @slimdusty: I totally agree with you—from what I read on their website, I thought they were going to waived the fee even beyond Feb, that's why I opened the Everyday options account. Let's see what happens after Feb 2019 then

        • +1

          That's really odd.

          Fine print from the website as follows;
"# Special Offer: Monthly Account Keeping Fee waived for new Everyday Options accounts opened from 3 December 2018 until 28 February 2019. Fee will be charged and waived for as long as the account is held."

So pretty sure it's not just waived until Feb?

Is there a google pay version or anyway to do this without an iphone?

    • +5

I just replaced apple-pay in URL with google-pay. Seems theres a separate competition for google tappers

      https://www.suncorp.com.au/banking/google-pay.html

tap via Google Pay in Nov and Dec 2018, for your chance to win 10x$10,000 for travel.

      • Huh? how would changing URL bypass Apple pay option?

        • scar4ace, just change the URL to see if the same offer was available to Google Pay customers and reported it isn't

    • I assume you don't have a new Mac laptop either (I assume 99.9999% of new Mac users that aren't forced to use them for work also own an iPhone).

I wonder if it's possible to set this up in an Apple store…

      • Well I can run Mac OS in a virtual machine easily enough. But then i'm pretty sure I need to swipe my fingerprint or confirm on an iphone when purchasing online. Unless there's another way to confirm?

        • New macs support Touch ID without an iPhone. But apparently it's not so easy to use Touch ID with a Hackintosh and generic finger print reader, but I haven't searched exhaustively.

      • One in a million Mac owners don't own an iPhone? Apple would be happy about that.

    • Not really, you have to use Apple Pay on an iPhone, iPad or new Apple Laptop Computers that have Touch ID.

However if you've got a bit of cash to outlay temporarily. You can purchase an iPhone directly from Apple and normally return the device within 14 days. For a full refund but that's probably a little bit far to go for $50 but who knows this is OzBargain.

Because this OzBargain here goes: Cheapest iPhone outlay would be iPhone 7 4.7-inch display 32GB for $749.00. Load card in to Apple Pay Head straight to Woolworths or Coles purchase minimal priced item at a self-serve check out and use the split transaction functionality and tap 5 times return phone to Apple for a full refund wait for your $50.

Note: iPads and Laptops in my opinion would not be feasible to be the best solution as you would need to make five purchases online with a merchant that supports Apple Pay on their online store or from inside an application.

      • i just paid someone on airtasker for the last promo with another bank. was a bit risky, but seemed to work out ok.

        • That's a reasonable option however it doesn't help the person we are responding to as it sounds like they don't own an Apple device that is capable of Apple Pay.

          • @tonyduffe: Yeah thanks for the advice. Yeah sounds like too much effort. I have an iPhone 4 but when I checked it doesn't support Apple Pay.

  • Why would you open a basics account vs options with the fee free for life option?

    • +1

yea made no difference so I opted for Options just in case. If you just want the $50 cashback and access to Suncorp Benefits either would do.

      • +4

Can anyone clarify the monthly keeping fee waive is lifetime or periodly?

        • +7

Monthly Account keeping fee is normally $0 for the Everyday Basics and $5 for the Everyday Options. But if you open an Everyday Options Account before 28/02/2019, the account keeping fee will be waived for the life of the account.

  • +2

Is there a minimum transaction amount, if not I can just buy 5 1c items with Apple Pay?

    • 5c for $50, 1000x my money in a few mins

    • +1

no, doesn't specify in T&Cs, Just says 5 separate purchases. They can't tell if an item actually cost $0.01 so that's a successful purchase once it goes through.

    • You could use the self checkout at Woolworths or Coles to do a split payment and tap five separate times for one item.

  • +6

Anyone else still waiting for their $100 from CUA?

  • +2

    Android unfriendly.

    • Yeah… no Android pay allowed?

  • +4

    OzBargain meetup confirmed.

17 Gift recipients must take part in all publicity, photography and other promotional activity as the Promoter requires, without any compensation. They consent to the Promoter using their name and image in any promotional or advertising activity.

  • can we use other card to pay gift card?
can i make split pay in wooly for 0.1 each to meet the requirement

    • yes use any visa/mastercard.

yes, as per T&Cs , 5 separate purchase, no minimum mount.

  • +4

Just opened one for the benefits and the cashback. Thanks OP.

An observation: The password can be between 6-8 characters, nothing less, nothing more and CANNOT contain special characters. What information technology age are they living in?

I opened a bank account 2 hours ago, but I still can’t link the bank account to the Suncorp benefit app. Everytime I tried to link a message “something’s gone wrong” pop up. Have you successfully gained access to the Suncorp benefits program? TIA.

      • same here…

      • +1

I was getting the same. Try force close the iOS App, launch again, and attempt login (First time using app, Suncorp>Suncorp Bank, then enter CID/password for your Bank A/c). this worked for me abotu 10 mins after opening Bank A/C

        • Thanks for the tip! I was on the phone with the app support team for nearly one hour and problem solved…I could add bank account to app but it says come back in 24 hours to get access to deals. So I used your tip in the original post, used the desktop link to purchase some gift cards I need for tomorrow. Thank you very much for posting this good offer.

    • Their version of 2018.

    • I signed up around 10AM with their bank account this morning, still cannot login to any of their rewards.

  • Do you need to wait for a physical debit card to arrive in the mail or can you setup Apple Pay from the app without a plastic card?

    • yep need the debit card to activate on Apple pay.

    • Ya, can confirm that physical card is must to register with apple app

    • Unfortunately yes you do need to wait for the physical card to arrive before they can be added to Apple Pay as the card needs to be activated.

Only two banks in Australia support the ability to add a card virtually to Apple Pay before physical card arrival/activation. ANZ and UP via Apple Pay Bank Support Spreadsheet

  • Do you need to use the Apple pay,
Or can we just use the card online / in a store to get the $50?

    • Yes, load card and pay via Apple Pay as per T&C

  • +8

OK, I just redid the process to get to the 7% off Woolworth digital eGift Card and be able to check out. Heres how for iOS (the egiftcard bit should work for Android users too):

    1. Use this deal link to get to the $50 cashback landing page. Sign up to one of the Everyday Bank A/Cs and obtain your CID/password. Less than a minute, easy peasy.

    2. Download the "Suncorp Bank" iOS App, Sign in with your CID/password. click around. Close app. App may be useful later for Apple Pay and tracking your 5 transactions.

    3. Now to the Benefits and eGift Cards. Download "Suncorp App" iOS App. You need to wait a little after Bank A/C opening to be able to sign in to this app. For me it was 10 minutes, for my wife I just tried after 30 minutes and it worked first time.

    4. Launch the app, Skip Intro screens, click on "First time using App" > Suncorp Logo > Suncorp Bank > Accept > then enter your Bank A/C CID/password. If you get the error "Something gone wrong" message, try again after 5 minutes.

    5. Once logged in, you must setup an email/password specific to Suncorp App/Benefits. This is different to your Suncorp Bank A/C CID and password. Once registered, close App.

    6. On your browser (Computer or Mobile) go to this website: https://online.suncorp.com.au/onesuncorp

    7. Login via the new email/password created on Suncorp App. Look on the home screen for Suncorp Benefits link, click on that.

    8. Click on Woolworths 7% eGift Card, proceed to checkout. Checkout with any Visa/Mastercard credit card. Max $500 spend.

    9. Get the eGift card. Enjoy.

    10. Don't forget 5 x Apple Pay by 31/3/2019 for $50 credit. Enjoy again.

Followed instructions, works perfectly - by passes the 24 hour restriction! Thanks OP and scar4ace

      • Didn't work for me.

        • Where did the process break down for you? Based on the latest few comments (from around 12 AM this morning onwards), Suncorp may have changed their process (or ended the benefits?).

          • +2

@Member 0230: Step 7 - when I try to access the benefits get error message.

            • @SydneySwan: Same here am getting an error on step 5 tho, phone app(suncorp app) won't let me sign in

    • Having issue with step 4 and getting "Something gone wrong" even after over 24 hours (signed up on Sunday morning).
Has anyone been successful since Sunday?

  • ref" Does not say new customers, just new bank account" can any existing customers if they have called up confirm if they will in fact qualify? the last suncorp apple offer was a waste of time for me as they said it was for only targeted new customers. so i never got the $20

  • -3

what if i cannot afford iphone@$1800

    • +3

Borrow or rent one to make 5 Apple Pay payments. I'm sure plenty of OzBargainers will rent you one for $5 (meet up at a supermarket, 2 mins to add card to Apple Pay, 5x transactions in 2 mins then remove card from Apple Pay). Suddenly you're $45 closer to owning an iPhone.

      • Give ozbragain access to my card while try to pay 5x in 2 minutes lol

      • Outlined an option here does require a temporary outlay of $749.00.

  • +1
  • i felt like i opened this for the ongoing benefits from suncorp instead of the $50 cashback.

    in any case, thanks OP

  • How to choose the account?
    Basics vs Options?
For options it just comes with 1.4% interest what are other good benefits?
Otherwise, Basics would be a safer pick because it guarantees no account keeping fee.

  • IS anyone getting this

    Whoops, something's gone wrong
We have experienced a technical error, and are unable to proceed with your application. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

    • Me too with both Driver's Licence and Medicare ID verification

    • I am getting this too ):

  • -1

If i was opening another account do I need to click the existing member one or new customer one??

    cheers

  • I am an existing customer so literally took me 30 seconds!

Just need the card now so I can make the 5 transactions! :)

  • I am an existing customer.
I just opened a Everyday Basic account.
Then how to link that new account to my existing Visa Debit card?

  • +1

Do the transaction descriptions show up straight away with suncorp? with CUA it takes 2 to 3 days - quite annoying

  • Just tried to open an account and got this:
Thank you for opening a Suncorp Account
Your account will be processed in the next few hours.

Our system is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance but your new account(s) and Internet Banking profile will be ready in the next couple of hours.

  • I have an iPad, but not an iPhone. Could I use the iPad to make 5 purchases via Apple Pay instore if I am willing to ensure a few odd looks from other shoppers?

    • +1

No, iPads do not support Apple Pay in store as there is no NFC on board. Can only use Apple Pay via App's and on the web through Safari.

      • Thanks for clarifying that for me Tony.

        • Apps and Websites that support Apple Pay in Australia are sparse. But I'll put together some options and reply to this thread later.

          • +1

@tonyduffe: Tony - I'd appreciate it if you could post a list of some apps and websites that support Apple Pay in Australia if you're still keeping an eye on this thread

            • @lazywombat: My apologies haven't forgotten about you just have been relatively busy with the Commonwealth Bank announcement and now the Velocity Global Wallet leak.

              • @tonyduffe: Unfortunately no longer tracking that information in the spreadsheet, When I started and stopped it wasn't viable I didn't have much of a system in place for other people to participate.

That's changing hopefully soon we've started with a discord server with a channel dedicated to Apple Pay and we hope to have stuff like this tracked in the future again.

Meantime Apple does have 2 App Store Storie's that you may want to take a look at and Tap Down Under tracks some of them as well and most stores that are on the Shopify platform except it as well.

A day on the couch with Apple Pay
                Shop with Apple Pay
Tap Down Under: Apps & On The Web

Some options that you can consider other than using the apps or websites mentioned above.

                • 5 x $1 donations to charity using the Shout For Good app. You can read a bit about the app here
                • @tonyduffe: Thanks heaps @tonyduffe - I think I'll go the charity route and donate via Shout for Good.

                  • @lazywombat: At this stage it's the best option I have been able to find that's the most cost-effective. Less you have a need to use one of the other apps for something in your day-to-day life or are happy to lose the whole $50 to a gift card.

                • +1

@tonyduffe: May as well donate $2 to make it tax deductible. Then you'd get most of the extra dollar back in tax and the charity gets an extra dollar.

  • -4

Stupid question, I am an Android user (no Apple devices). Am I still able to apply for this deal and make the 5 purchases some how?.

  • Any idea would the device ID have to be unique to be eligible for the offer?
I have an iPhone and my wife doesn't. Thinking if I can use the same iPhone to add both cards to Apple Pay and do 5 transactions each.

    • +1

No that should work perfectly fine. Most likely would technically be against the banks Apple Pay Terms and Conditions and Fraud Policy.

  • Curious if it's 50 per person, or 50 per transaction opened.
