I'm no expert when it comes to AMD powered devices but this seems like a good deal. After a bit of research seems like the intel equivalent to the CPU is the i7-8550U (i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Finding an i7 laptop at this price would be near impossible.

Does this have a touchscreen? Stylus? Used as tablet? Thanks :)

    • Not a touchscreen display.

If you're after a touch display - I would look at the Yoga

I would look at the Yoga

        Pilates is better for posture…

        • Calisthenics all the way bro

    • Stylus? what year is this again?

      • Haha for kid’s school laptop. Apparently they need a pen/stylus thing

Does it come with any warranty?

    • +1

As per this listing on ebay

"This product comes with a 12 months warranty against manufacturing faults and defects. Warranty is managed by GraysOnline."

      • +1

        "Warranty is mis-managed by GraysOnline."

Non-touch display is the only downside.

    Notebookcheck review

    Verdict - 84% (Good)

" The Lenovo IdeaPad 720s-13ARR is a solid device, but its poor cooling solution and TDP settings mean that it cannot fully exploit either its APU or its GPU. Worse still, Lenovo has limited the device to run in single-channel mode (RAM). This limits GPU performance and cannot be rectified (as the memory is soldered on).

Performance is good enough for office and Internet applications, but CPU and GPU performance could be significantly better than they are. The Lenovo IdeaPad 720s-13ARR cannot take advantage of its Ryzen 7 2700U APU to the extent that it performs at the same level as its cheaper sibling.

Positively, the NVMe SSD is fast and ensures solid system performance. Likewise, the backlit keyboard is impressive, and the Full HD display is bright and has a good contrast ratio. Unfortunately, the battery life is average at best.

That being said, we would recommend choosing the more expensive 720s-13IKB over either 720s-13ARR configuration. The 720s-13IKB has an Intel Core processor that is more consistent than the AMD APU powering our test device. Better still, the 720s-13IKB has a Thunderbolt 3 port, while both Ryzen models only have a USB Type-C port. The 720s-13IKB also has much longer battery life despite having a smaller battery. Overall, the 720s-13ARR can only compete with its Intel-powered sibling on price."

    • I read this also. I mean I would never purchase a laptop to use to play games anyway but it seems they've let the CPU down with their applied limitations.

As the review suggests, I think this would be a solid device for someone looking to use for business purposes or a student.

    • This has been resolved with a BIOS update that came out months ago (after this review)

Another good deal if somebody wants 15.6" FHD/i5-8250U/8GB/2TB

    • If only this had an SSD instead - I would be all over it.

      • +2

        Buy 860 evo 1tb for $155
Then sell 2Tb for $80 something

    • that would be good for non-gaming purposes.

Another good deal if somebody wants

That one is more of a desktop replacement - or a boat anchor - at 2.2kg. No comparison.

      • I didn’t compare them but commented as an option if someone could benefit

        • +2

All good. Just saying they are for very different purposes.

    • Solid laptop, but it is big and heavy. Screen is poor. At least this one has FHD, the 1366x768 are the worst screens I've seen on a new laptop in a long time.

  • are grays as bad as people report when it comes to a warranty claim.

    • +2

I've had no experience with this so I can't confirm or deny. But with everything, we only tend to hear of negative experiences rather than positive, I find that someone could go somewhere 10 times and have 9 good experiences, but we would only hear about the 1 bad one.

I haven't had too much of a problem (2 returns in about 6 purchases). That being said I've heard some horror stories on ozbargain.

      • +2

A 33% failure rate is hardly encouraging..? What were the issues?

  • +1

I think this has backlit keyboard am I correct.

    • +1

      Yep 2 stage illumination

Purchased. Wish me luck. Haven't had the best experience with GraysOnline before.

    • What will be your primary use? I'm still tossing up whether to purchase for my business….. I keep procrastinating everytime I get to the checkout page lol

      • Wanted the Ryzen as I play games occasionally as well.

For business ie. internet and Office apps, just get your bog standard Pentium laptop and spend half this amount.

  • Can someone help me out with the delivery time? I bought it last sunday knowing that it would be delivered on or before 30 november as I am moving out of my current address after 30 Nov. They have not shipped it yet. So a bit worried.

    • I find Grays are very random with delivery. They probably have warehouses all over the place.

I bought a laptop a month ago and got delivery from Syd to Melb in 4 days. Bought a bluray player earlier this year and it took 2 weeks.

      • Thanks.

        • Once you get a tracking number etc you should be able to redirect the mail to a post office closer to your new address.

  • Hi guys. anyone received yet? mine arrived yesterday. Mine looks fine externally no marks or scratches visible. But the one I received may be slightly different from advertised one. What I meant is that I got two USB type C port instead of one mentioned in the description plus mine does not have memory card slot unlike the one in the advertised picture. Can you please share your thoughts on this?

Well guys I am not a tech guy. So, any advise or tips to set it up properly (such as bios update or anything else) would be highly appreciable. Thanks.

    mine looks like this one:
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-700-ser…

    • I got the same model, (has two usb-c, two usb 3.0, no hdmi, no sd card reader).

I guess this model is newer than the one pictured, or the picture is just plain wrong model completely.

I tried a bios update (version 6KCN40WW) but got an error message like "your on board bios is for os version 15063 only" … I don't know what that might mean.

I don't think I'm bothered at this stage (only used it for 1/2 hour last night), we'll see in time.

I installed a lenovo system management tool (can't remember the exact name right now), and it did not detect any bios or drivers that it wanted to upgrade.

Mine was also in excellent condition. The serial number was scratched off the bottom, weird, huh?

      • Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I just checked online regarding the bios update and found its a common problem for this model. And regarding serial number scratched off, yes same on mine too.

        Let's see how it goes.

      • Hey all, I bought and received mine as well. Mine also has 2x USB C, no SD etc.

I've purchased from GraysOnline before and had hit and miss results. This particular laptop was in great condition with next to no marks. Screen is excellent. Entire unit is very light.

My only issue is the cooling fan is slightly loud and has an irritating tone. Not a big deal, I've seen worse. Can easily live with it.

Serial number is scratched off as Lenovo will not provide warranty. That's how GraysOnline obtain them cheap. GraysOnline take on any warranty/repairs.

As for the BIOS, very long story short, I've looked into it and there appears to be 2 versions of this laptop. A large number of these early version units got "bricked" from users installing the v37 BIOS which, unknown to Lenovo, wasn't compatible with the early version. This resulted in heaps of units being returned to Lenovo to have the motherboards replaced. As they're second hand they get sold off in bulk to places like GraysOnline.

The current BIOS updates are still not compatible with the early version that we have purchased. Lenovo are working on a solution but nothing has resulted as yet.

You CAN however upgrade to 6KCN30WW BIOS. This is as simple as taking the download link for the 6KCN40WW and changing the 4 to a 3. The v30 BIOS apparently helps with some reported hardware acceleration and CPU throttling issues - but not as well as the v38 or v40 BIOS. I've flashed mine. Was simple.

All in all, pretty happy with this machine so far!

        • Thanks, good to know. Any risks or drawbacks to the v30 BIOS (6KCN30WW) that you are aware of? (I'd like faster gpu performance)

          • @pnt: Always a small risk with flashing a BIOS.

Benefits appear to be GPU and RAM are clocked a little faster and thermal throttling is reduced as the target temps were raised.

I've experienced no issues since flashing.

            • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: I was about to update to v30 (6KCN30WW), then i saw a new bios update v41 (6KCN41WW), decisions, decisions…

              • @pnt: Hmmm I hadn't noticed that came out.

I'll be waiting a bit to make sure there's no issues. Nothing on reddit or lenovo forums yet that I can see.

              • @pnt: I tried to flash the 41WW BIOS. Incompatible just like 40WW.
