  • Thanks, I was about to buy those old used office desktop pc’s on Facebook for $300 with Intel 8500T / 9500T CPU’s. These are so much better for the same price.

    • Unless you want a plex server, 100% agree. You can also get those 8500t minis for a lot cheaper than $300, I think I got mine for around $150 about a year ago.

      • Why would plex make a difference? Im a novice.

        • Because intel

          • @whitepuma: Intels better or it needs to be intel?

            • @iwatchfatpplsleep: Very generally speaking, Intel is both better at it and more supported.

But no it doesn't need to be.

            • @iwatchfatpplsleep: The Intels have better hardware for transcoding in Plex, if you need it. If you're not transcoding, it doesn't really matter

        • Plex can use Intel CPUs to do hardware transcoding. Not always possible with AMD CPUs.

          • @367: It works on modern iGPUs (like the one in this machine) fine, although Intel still handles multiple streams better AFAIK. Still, not going to be an issue for most people.

I know there was a bug with tone mapping and AMD a couple of years ago that made me stick with Intel, but it's probably fixed by now.

    • FYI 8500T refurbs can be bought on ebay for around $200 or less; $300 is massively overpriced.

  • -4

From a cybersecurity perspective those old intel has more holes than this one. I would avoid those old units.

    • +2

I would rather a proven 8th gen unit that's still in production over a chinese cheapie with weak bios and shady windows installs

Amazon time zone sale, get real Amazon .

    • To be fair to Amazon if you check Camels it has been this price for a few days.

  • That was quick

    • It already had the #1 best seller tag when I posted, I can only confirm minimum 6 stock because that was the max I could add to cart.

  • How does the iGPU on these compare to old dedicated ones, namely a GTX950.

Kids have a machine hobbled together with old parts and wondering if something like this might be better (or which CPU would I need for the iGPU to be an upgrade?)

  • Talking of these units - I have a mistaken purchase to sell (barely used) S5 5800H/1TB/32GB… where would be best to offload it? Here / FB Market Place / ebay?
