    This bit looks scary

""Our travel partners have worked hard to put this offer together for you, It is a condition that you attend all tours and experiences set out in your itinerary otherwise you may be asked to pay a further $300 - in other words, you just need to be there and enjoy the sights and sounds of fabulous Thailand""

does that means time share conferences/please buy our crap??

    • +3

Hmmm, what a strange condition. I can only imagine that the "tours and experiences" may involve purchasing opportunities and a hard sell ie. commissions to the providers.

IMO this deal is too good to be true. Call me cynic but I'd give it a miss based on this fact alone.

    • +4

"you may be asked to pay a further $300".

They may ask but it is not a term of the conditions that you MUST pay.

Plus how are they going to enforce that? By taking non-compliers to the Small Claims Court? Unlikely.

They would probably pay hardball over the accommodation and airport transfers though, so you're pretty much stuck.

Knowing Thailand from one visit, I know that almost every person you meet offers to help you which is really delightful until they try to take you to their brother's mate's sister's pearl palace come furniture shop come shake down parlour.

So, no thanks. I wouldn't even go if they paid me.

      • +1

They won't force you to pay, but they'll no doubt do everything to make your life difficult until you get out of Thailand.

In Australia I have read reports about dodgy tour operators locking tourists inside gift shops until they spent enough money. In a situation where tourists don't speak the local language most pay up.

        • More important, they would waste your time.

"try to take you to their brother's mate's sister's pearl palace come furniture shop come shake down parlour"

Hahaha classic mate, well put and true too.
I've seen that with my own eyes in Thailand.

    • +2

Kinda reminds me of the "Asspen - time share" South Park episode! :p

  • no idea! I've always been a fan of the deal sites and have never had a problem with them, I would of taken this one if we didn't have to book within 4 months!

    • Thanks for the post, looks great all up.

    • It says you can change your dates as long as you give them 10 days notice…seems fair…

  • +2

some tour operators get kickbacks from dropping you at certain souvenir stores etc.. They probably get paid per person.

    • +1

      some tour operators

I'd almost be confident enough to say all tour operators! ;)

  • +2

Yeah thats could well be some dodgy stuff right there.
Like some of the hotel scams they run over in Bali.
I have met people who were driven to "exotic locations" on the day trip they "won" over there, then forced to get a taxi home when they got sick of the nasty hard sell time share lecture at the place. Oh BTW, everyone wins the fake contests they run (natch).
    Dodgy, dodgy aggressive bollocks.

Never heard of a holiday that you pay for where you must attend anything or pay more.
    Fork that.

    • +1

Yup, dodgy and scary… esp when you are so far from home.

    • Happens all the time in Bangkok with taxi drivers and locals wishing to practice English by taking visitors to their friend's shops.so unless you're in the market for some sweatshop jewellery or bespoke suits, I'd be very weary of conditions like these. Besides Thailand is best explored on your own.

  • +5

Also remember, what's more scary is male prostitutes often look prettier than female prostitutes in Thailand. You always need a sober wingman beside you whilst drinking….to look after your dignity.

    • Yep, definitely this. I can speak from first hand experience. It's scary as hell.

  • +1

According to whois and abr.gov.au this business is approximately 1.5 months old.

  • Looks suspect…. and if you've been to Thailand you'll know it probably is.

  • +1

I am so close to buying this…I figure if it is legit..I have saved a bundle…and if it's not I will claim on my travel insurance….they seem to be underwritten by an American travel company…if you do a little digging on their site it as plain as day…..

    • brought!! I am off to Thailand!! Whoop whoop!!! Paid by visa so I am covered by them too if it's not legit!!!

      • +1

        When are you going?
Be sure to report back so we hear what really happened.

  • I did a search on Google cache and found an earlier draft of the conditions

"Our travel partners have worked hard to put this offer together for you, It is a condition that you attend all tours and experiences set out in your itinerary otherwise you may be asked to pay a further $300 or if you would prefer, just simply donate one kidney (sorry, cannot choose which one, and will be taken one night while you sleep in our 4 1/2 star accommodation"

    • +1

A kidney shmahoo? That is offal.

  • Beware cheap bus tours in Asia! Applies to both day-trips and longer tours
There are lots of these aimed at naive local tourists who are new to the market.
You have no guarantee as to the quality of the bus or hotels ("or similar ranking hotel" should ring alarm bells)
and you will spend half your time (or more) in shops.
Always thoroughly check the reputation of the operator before paying. In this case the operator is not even named.
Bangkok has lots of barge poles. Don't touch this with one.
Insurance will not compensate for a ruined holiday.
