        6 months

no need to pay, just change your e-mail.

    • +2

just use the free version. same anti virus protection, just without a bunch extra crap added onto it

      • Agree 100%.

The paid version has actually more hassleware than the free one. The free one just quietly does it's job.

..or just use Windows Defender for free all the time…

    • Does Windows Defender have active protection to block attacks or just upon scanning?

      • +3

        It has both.

Might weigh in here as an ICT professional.

Windows Defender has always had OAS (On Access Scanning) and ODS (On Demand Scanning) features, as do most AV products.

If you are running Windows 10, Windows Defender is fantastic. It is leaps and bounds above iterations found in Windows 7/8 and now includes ransomware protection and core isolation to stop attacks hitting core Windows processes. I'd encourage you to check out how far Windows Defender has traveled on Gartner charts or AV-Comparatives' Real-World Protection Tests which now put it in the top 10.

Because it is baked into the OS, you also don't have issues with the foreign processes injecting themselves into your OS - Things just seem to run smoother.

If you are looking at protection for an older OS, I would recommend Bitdefender in my top few suggestions, so sure, go for it if you have an older OS.

      Cheers

      • Thanks IT professional.. I might weigh in also here as a cyber security professional.
Anti virus these days are not really effective. Sure Windows Defender is great at older virus as with every other AV product, but machine patching and cyber awareness is your best defense at malicious attacks.
I believe the Ozbargin community is intelligent enough not to click on the link the view the bill for $3603.53 that you unexpectedly received or know some hacker has not installed spyware on your computer and has a video of you watching porn.

      • I disagree. Windows Defender appears to use far more resources than Bitdefender, plus is more obtrusive, so cannot agree Defenders appears "smoother".

        • Thank you for sharing your opinion through the power of the internet.

Thanks OP, but I think it's only for 6 months.

Thank you for correcting. Posted this whilst waiting in line at the airport!

    • My thought exactly. Deal link has been changed.

  • This is great. Thank you.

    A word of caution.
I've been using one of their 2014 products for more than 3 years on Windows 7 until it expired and I could no longer extend it. It worked well, no problems at all.
A few months ago I bought and installed Bitdefender Internet Security 2018 which since then has caused 6 Windows crashes (google "atc.sys BSOD").
I have not uninstalled it yet only because I'm lazy.

    • Did the same to my wife's notebook.

Blue screens after installing, gone after uninstalling.

We've put another suite back on (won't mention name as I don't want to start another "this one is better" war).

I'll hang off Bitdefender until I'm sure issues like that are fixed.

    Just use the free edition

    https://www.bitdefender.com.au/solutions/free.html

it uses the same web filtering & AV detection engines as the paid stuff without all the extra bloat they tack on to try and add "value" but just causes issues with your PC

    • Yep pretty much - worked in IT for nearly six years (got out before I killed myself) and the free version of bitdefender will be more than enough for 99% of people.

Bitdefender is the worst antivirus software I have ever tried, and one of the worst pieces of software in general.

It is so obtrusive and wants to control ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING on your PC, whilst granting itself permissions for whatever it fancies and magically becoming the default "king dick".

Also, if you ever need to temporarily disable your antivirus software or block certain software from passing through your firewall, this POS makes everything so much harder and more frustrating.

I tried it after receiving a free 12 membership, and within a couple of hours of the actual installation I had completely removed all traces of it, cancelled my subscription and sent a polite and cheerful email with some constructive criticism to the developers.

    • So you'd recommend it then?

    • Can i see the email. i need a laugh today :P

      • I don't want to make you cry, from either laughter or disgust.. :p

    • You talking about Bitdefender or Norton Antivirus?

Bitdefender happily hides in the system tray and you NEVER see it again. It goes about its business doing its job.

It even has a nice big friendly button to disable it. Not sure how you managed to miss it?

      • Pretty sure I wouldn't confuse this POS with another program, and I'm competent enough to see such a button, if it existed.

I don't know if you're possibly referring to a free version, or something completely different, but I stand by my comments.

N.B. Not interested in making this personal, or having a petty back-and-forth argument with you, so I'll respectfully leave it at that.

    Internet security. Snake oil.

    • Goes well with condoms.

    • Literally removed 6 different malware and a crypto miner off a customer laptop last week Friday.

      Don't agree.

  • I run Forticlient. Comes with AV, webfilter control to block the kids and also anti exploit engine. Best of all it's free,
    Https://www.forticlient.com

You can check various test bodies, like VB100, rates pretty well.

    • was this created in response to fortnite?

      • Nah when he said "I run Forticlient" I too misunderstood as him creating it but after checking the website I remember this product from awhile ago, he just means that he uses it on his machines haha

  • If using the free version of bitDefender, it does not have a firewall, what to use as a firewall?

  • Just a heads-up, it can't be used to extend an existing subscription.

  • +1

Still rocking Norton Antivirus 4.0 here.

  • You can replace your current license with this 6 month if you already use it
