Optus Sport Free until 31/8/18 (New Customers Only), Now Available on Fetch RETAIL

110

I rebooted my RETAIL Fetch TV because it locked up and then it did a software upgrade and now it has the Optus Sport option. It is the retail box purchased from JB Hi-Fi, not an ISP.

I checked the Optus website to see how much it actually costs, and I see that it's free until the end of the month. Then $15 per month.

Also the requirement to be an existing Optus customer with another eligible service seems to have been dropped.

Also worth checking out their 12/24 month Mobile Phone plans if you intend to pay for Sport, as they all include Optus Sport for free, so you'd essentially be saving $15 a month with those. i.e. The $25/m SIM only plan with 3GB Data and Unlimited calls/text includes Optus Sport so it's essentially a $10/m SIM if you are getting Optus Sport anyway. Also check out this deal

Requires app from Google Play or Apple App Store to actually do the sign up.

  • Whilst we're here.

I'm looking at subscribing for the upcoming season. I want to watch on a desktop pc - so I wish to connect to the web version. Do I still have to get the app to subscribe?

For the record, I have optus cable internet.

    • if you're an Optus customer you should have access to Optus sports which can be used via a web browser to watch the EPL is that's what you're after.

  • This is to do with their mobile streaming issues during the World Cup. I got a free Fetch box out of it as an existing Optus customer and I am under the impression I get Optus sports for the duration of my free 12 month Fetch mini box.

For anyone after a Fetch Mighty or Mini, a bunch of us on Whirlpool bought refurbs from the deal below, and they are literally brand new / factory sealed with a small dent in the cardboard packaging - great deal:

  • Is the quality on the Fetch box any better than quality through their website? It's horrendous and frustrating - Foxtel was showing in high bitrate, high definition (1080i most likely) before Optus took it over. Optus on their website stream what seems to be 16fps and about 3mbit/s.

    • Watched all the World Cup via Optus with Fetch mini and it seemed HD to me. I also used my phone as a hotspot and it was un-metred

    • Works fine for me via web to be honnest. Full screen looks great.

    • I rarely have problems with my Fetch TV streaming for any of the channels. So long as your internet connection is reliable then you should be fine. Their FAQ says "you need a minimum broadband speed of 3 Mbps to access Fetch" but you'd need more like 5 for HD.

  • Saw this appear on my Mighty yesterday. Nothing against soccer, but do they show anything other than soccer?

  • Anyone get this working on retail Fetch boxes? I'm finding when I'm logging in on the Fetch box, it's saying, "Premium Account Required".

Working fine via app and browser with same credentials.

    • Yeah, working fine here. Updated the Retail Fetch firmware yesterday to get the app. Launched the app, logged in using my optus ID and all good.

      • Thanks for the feedback. I tried again, no go for me. Are you an Optus customer with access or are you using the trial until 31/8 Optus sport offer?

I've got an Optus prepaid mobile but registered Optus Sport with a different email address to my Optus account's/Optus ID one.

        • Do you subscribe to any of the channel packs? Maybe you have to be a subscriber. Just guessing.

  • o' I thought they changed the name to FLOPTUS sports. Good to know that they are still optus sports.

  • What sports do Optus actually have becides EPL season ?

    • Now has UEFA Champions League, Europa League and a bunch of other European internationals. Will have 2019 Women’s World Cup. Over last summer they had delayed telecasts of the cricket and replays of old matches.

      • Where did you see this, I thought BeIN Sports had the exclusive UEFA Champions League & Europa League rights in Australia? I can't see any mention of UCL or UEL on the Optus Sport app

        • Not anymore. Starting this year it’s going through Optus. BeIn still has all the other European leagues.

  • Can I pay 15 a month and get optus sport on my retail fetch box?

    • +1

      Yes, I think that's the whole point … ?

      • Wasn't available like that last season - which is why I asked the question.

Even when they announced it open to all users earlier in the year, it wasn't an option.

  • What firmware level the retail box has to be on ?
I have Mighty on 2.20, after a reboot, I still see no Optus App.

    • h/w M616T (Mighty)
      f/w 3.7.8138
      s/w 2.20 Freycinet

      • Thanks. Found the "problem"
        TV -> Optus Sports
        Not in Apps
        Arrgghhh…

  • How do I watch it beyond August ?

    I have google credit.

  • Guys, quick question.

If you have a retail box, what type of Optus Sport is included? Just the app, or also the channels?

I’m asking because I would like to record some games and I know there are a few they don’t allow in catch up later.

    Thanks!

The app plus all 11(?) channels that you can record.

      • That’s awesome news, thanks!
