Cool! I didn't know many people watched live tv anymore, turns out it's still a very high percentage watches more than 18 hours per week!
Why would you pay for shows that are on for free? Save them to a PVR and binge off it.
@bazzaa: because you have to pay for a DVR? Cost of a DVR is 2 years Netflix. Or 1 year of Netflix, Stan, Foxtel ;-)
I guess this is just for sports though. Watching sports is an expensive hobby!
@OnlinePred: You can record TV for ten years on a PVR, possibly much longer. $2.25 a month is somewhat cheaper than Netflix, plus the range is much better.
@bazzaa: I don't think you have enough space for 10 years worth of tv, also will be waiting a long time to get any good new tv shows…. The range is not "much better" lol. You get different stuff, more daytime tv stuff, more filler shows etc on free to air, and much more advertisements etc.
…except the mini can't record, although it can pause/rewind a live stream via a 4GB buffer. Comparison here: https://www.fetchtv.com.au/packages/compare
Compare it to a FoxTel IQ or Telstra T-Box. Pay TV via your ISP. Various channel packs are available with mostly the same channels as FoxTel (SyFy, E!, Universal Channel, MTV, ESPN, 13th St). You don't get access to the channels owned by Fox like Fox Sports, Fox8 and The Comedy Channel but you can get Optus Sports (which streams fine over Fetch TV as opposed to the iffy app) and Comedy Central.
Or I think you can just use it as a PVR for free-to-air TV.
Optus gave me the basic twin tuner model when I signed up to the NBN a few years ago but I'd consider upgrading to the quad tuner Mighty. Not sure if I can do that if I buy from JB or if I'd have to get it through Optus though.
Yep, a key reason to get it is for Optus Sports and the Premier League but it doesn't come with that if you buy it outright. And there's no way of getting it out on there.
You need the optus box version normal fetch version doesn't have the optus sports option.
Optus Sport will be available on retail Fetch boxes (as well as other ISP boxes) this year. Optus were hoping to have it ready for the 2018/2019 EPL season but I saw a post on their Facebook page that they'd hit a snag and may not have it ready in time.
Awesome deal - especially for the Mighty, which is essentially 30% off RRP and still comes with full manufacturer warranty.
Also, for those keen on Optus Sport, it should be available on these retail boxes within the next few weeks:

Just a heads up - a review on the Fetch Mighty here says -
There is no way to set a recording to record weekly, daily or every weekend. You can only do a "one off" recording or "series tag".
There is also no loop through for the antenna connection on the back, so you will need a splitter if you want your antenna to also connect to your TV.
Another reviewer issue -
The only problem that I had with setting up the Fetch Mighty was that I wanted to connect it to my home theater receiver. When I did this I got a HDMI 2.2 error on the initial screen, and it would't let me progress further. This is a common issue that people have reported, and is easily fixed by adding a powered HDMI splitter between the Fetch Mighty and your AV receiver.
There is no way to set a recording to record weekly, daily or every weekend.
I don’t understand that. Why would you want to record at a specific time? The series tag feature is far more powerful particularly since its coupled with CRID.
Agreed. If my Fetch TV box could record at a regular time then it would be a feature I would never use.
Although my biggest gripe with Fetch is with the series tag feature. Even though the EPG shows a week in advance the scheduled recordings only show up in the PVR list for the next day (or less). I might check what's scheduled before I go to bed and cancel recordings of repeats I've already seen but wake up to find multiple episodes of old seasons have been recorded. It's one reason that I still use Windows Media Center with a TV card for watching free-to-air TV. Not a deal breaker, though.
My older Gen 2 box has antenna in and antenna out so I'm surprised to see the Mighty doesn't. Then again, with four tuners you aren't ever going to need to watch via the TV's own tuner.
There is a new option to record only the latest season or newest show to avoid this when setting up series recording.
@trilby: So there is. I'm going though my series tags now. Ta.
This photo shows the rear connections of the Fetch Mighty.
That's actually the Mini (incorrectly labelled). The Mighty has USB on the back

Thanks, I can't believe there is no antenna loop.
can't just use a $2 splitter?
Excuse my ignorance but why do you need to loop your antenna from the box to your TV? I have a Topfield DVR and no need for an antenna loop
@enzso: You don't need it but it's handy if you ever want to watch live TV through the television tuner rather than the tuners built in to the DVR. This could be because you are recording a number of shows concurrently and want to watch something else, or 'just in case' should the DVR die for example. In addition, many TVs download updated firmware via the TV signal itself - so no antenna then no update. For most people it doesn't matter though - with a DVR you never watch FTA through the TV tuner as, for one thing, that means you can no longer pause/rewind live TV (unless you have a tv that supports an external drive). When I had to replace my old Fetch with a new one, it was mildly annoying that it didn't have a loopback but I haven't bothered getting a splitter yet.
I never understood this. Australian TV is complete garbage. I’d strangle to find one thing to watch. Let alone all the tunners being in use.
@PlasticSpaceman: If you're recording four free-to-air channels at once and want to watch a fifth then it is possible that you are watching too much television.
Is this a good option to turn my dumb TV into one that can stream YouTube? I had the MiBox 3, but the HDMI in it stopped working. I'm wondering if this is a simpler to use solution.
Chromecast? PI? Not much is simpler than using Chromecast for youtube.
Appreciate the reply.
I'd need something to cast if I was using Chromecast.
I'll give the pi more thought.
You don't have a mobile phone? You can also cast from a laptop/computer to a chromecast!
Chromecast is good, as is a 'pi running Kodi, apple tv, etc. Lots of options. If it's mainly YouTube then you probably want something that supports a keyboard otherwise you will need to use a separate device like a mobile to control as searching for things via an on screen keyboard is not fun. This is all assuming you have already gone through the basics to make sure your MiBox is actually ok. If you're not getting video from it, might want to try (in order) a different cable and port and tv….. and if it starts working make sure the frequency matches the tv eg 50 or 60Hz
Thanks OP.
If I already have a fetch TV subscription through Optus can I just buy one of these and use my login to watch on 2 TVs or will I have to pay Optus the extra $5 or $10 a month for multiple subscriptions? Cheers
Thanks again to the OP :)
Just got my Mighty delivered here in Perth after ordering two days ago.
Box is still sealed, with just a tiny dent on the cardboard box / packaging.
Awesome deal!
I bought a mini refurb. Box was sealed. Device looks untouched. Great deal.
I received my mini yesterday, also sealed and I'd say brand new. Great deal.
I don't understand what this is - correct me if I'm wrong, but it's just a DVR right? Also has apps on it for other services, and you can sign up to their own service for movies and stuff?
