Sellers proven to price jack should be banned on Ozbargain imo. The possible lack of publicity should be a deterrent enough.

    • +5

      Mods? Great idea!

    • +4

Is someone able to automagically generate a list of prices from sellers on ebay prior to and during the 20% off sale?

If someone can do that, then a few of us can put together a comparison list and letter going along with it. From there we can make a standard letter available to others to submit to ACCC.

It is only when the ACCC receive several hundred complaints with some good examples that they might sit up and take notice. We should also circulate the letter/evidence to the media. Generally once there is some good mainstream media the ACCC seems to take some interest.

      • This is a great idea!

This eBay price-jacking low act makes Gerry Harvey look like a saint.

      Maybe not THAT much!

    Price jacking.

Enough of these 20% off price jackers sales, when's the next 10-15% off sitewide code coming?

    • Something about DeLoreans …

    • -1

with the 10-15% price jack :)

    • Yes need sitewide code

      • Anyone know when that will be?

        • +1

Yes. A few people at ebay for sure.

  • +14

The level of pricejacking is ridiculous. Take the QC35 for example. They're charging over $200 above the RRP, making them still over $70 above the RRP AFTER the discount code.

Even Hardly Normal has better prices than this.

    • Damn. They obviously don't want to sell any through eBay. On FTC's own website they're $499!

    • +3

The QC35 alone deserves a neg

      • Imagine your thoughts on Beats by Dre lol

    • I’m joining the neggers on this. The blatant price jacking on display here means that this so called 20% off sale is largely deceptive and misleading.

https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/kogan-pays-32400-penal… Looks like ACCC no longer cares about this type of deceptive conduct…

I agree, this is bullshit. false marketing sales, needs to be done better. neg for ebay and retailers. Hope it goes on A Current Affair. This would be a great story, someone needs to contact them. Maybe TA or JV should, they seem to be our hero's.

    • TA

TA loves to post these deals for OzBargain karma, doubt they care most likely ask eBay each week to run them

  • The promotion last month saved me $35 so I have no complaints at all. Got a dash cam which has a RRP of $250 and the cheapest detail price I could find was $235. Went to Ryda and got 20% off their retail price of $250 (it wasn't jacked).

    Certainties of life
    1) Death
    2) Taxes
    3) Price Jacking during an ebay sale.

    • But sometimes you find a gem which doesn't get jacked before the sale… rather than complaining through these threads, shouldn't we just put a disclaimer at the top of these deals and leave the thread for "real finds"

    !!!Disclaimer!!!

Do your own research about the current prices of the items you intend to buy. They are sometimes higher on the eBay listings.

    LOL @ no related deals
LOL @ no search all link.

Everyone is CBF with this sht|t now.

  • Any know if there will be any decent wireless headphones and wireless earbuds? Need ear buds for walking and headphones for the travel to college.

I tried looking last night but I don't think I did the search right because all that came up were car headphones xD

  • On another note my first experience of the returns process of eBay Plus has been a total fail. It started smoothly in that I got a return label to print and then I dropped it off at a local parcel point. That's where things went wrong.

    • I couldn't type in my tracking number on eBay as that field had defaulted to another number
    • The item seems to have been lost somewhere in transit and I have no easy way of contacting eBay
    • eBay cancelled my return because I didn't put the tracking number in on time
    • I have no way of easily contacting eBay to sort the mess out

eBay need to beef up their customer services for eBay Plus! And I want my subscription fee back for all of this hassle

    • -3

Maybe just don't buy it in the first place ?

  • Here, have a neg FeeBay.. There must be quite a few people getting fooled by this price jack practice. They wouldn't be advertising it this often otherwise.

  • Any deals on liquor, hick!? Cannot smell it though.

  • pricejacking is not a commendable practice

  • +2

I reckon these sales are pretty simple. We know price jacking happens. That's a given. It's not just these eBay sales either. Marketing itself is an innately deceptive practice, designed to get people to buy stuff through whatever means necessary. That's what the retail market is all about. It's not fair and honest, as much as we might like it to be.

So knowing that, my rules go like this:

    • It's something I want
    • I know what the normal price is
    • I've compared prices with other retailers
    • After the '20% off', it's at the best price and at a reasonable discount (factoring in shipping etc.)

    = It's worth buying.

  • If this isn't an "Ozbargain" then why is there 130+ and only -16 ?

    • because people neg if the item they are looking is not a bargain. People that find deal give them a +

I just bought a lens that is cheaper than what has been sold used on ebay/gumtree. Brand new 2 years warranty.

People still complains that a store sell the same item more expensive on ebay than the store website. This has NOTHING to do with the 20% off as even when there is no ebay 20% off their price are still higher than buying from the store website.

Stores than jack the price hours/days before the sale, that's the problem.

      • -4

You bought something cheaper from eBay/Gumtree compared to what has been sold? You didn't get a bargain, you fell for a marketing strategy.

        • I bought a brand new lens using the payoff20 code than it is cheaper than an used market (FB/eBay/Gumtree). I was waiting for the right price to buy, not sure what are you talking about.

      • have you bought a sigma 16mm f1.4 lens?

  • Thanks OP. Perfect timing. I was looking at buying a lens for my Sony A6500.

    • what lens have you bought?

      • +1

SIGMA 16mm F1.4 LENS FOR SONY E MOUNT – DN CONTEMPORARY & 67mm HOYA UV FILTER By dcxpert.
It's sold out now. Only 3 available and I got one right at 10am. The our 2 for sold by the time my payment went through. Lucky me.

  • nothing worth buying with jacked up prices, sorry OP, neg's for eBay - not you!

  • Anyone not able to use the code? I have been trying to buy from LSI Japanese Auto Parts Perform20 yesterday did not work and now this too.

  • tried Bose QC35, cheapest is AU$712…… crazy????

  • +15

I think ebay is getting a free ride from OZB.
I suggest that future "20% off" gets moved to the forums and not be allowed on the front page.
only specific REAL deals within gets to be listed.

Ebay has been getting free advertising on OBZ for the last year and they should not be allowed further exposure till there are proper deals

    • +1

You are right, enoughs enough OzBargain needs to change

    • +1

      YES.

  • Thanks, bought a power bank from sobre :)

    • I did 2-3 days ago from him/her but they have also jacked their prices up by 10% more on all items.

Still better of then 2 days ago, but that's NOT right!!!

Truly it's a 10% discount and not 20% as advertised as this is deliberately done only to mislead customers.

I'd be more in favour to shop there or anywhere for that matter knowing the real discount, than to find out that I was deliberately mislead into believing I got a much bigger discount than what I was actually getting or got.

  • Got myself Eve power switch and outdoor temperature sensor. I guess it depends on a store…

  • Iphone X retail $1919. FO

    How's this for a price-jack…

    Mavic Air Combo from FTC

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192437386234

    $2041 or $1632.80 after the "20% Discount"

    Yet they cost $1599 RRP

    https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/HLXR2X/A/dji-mavic-air…
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/dji-mavic-air-flymore-combo-…

They must think people are stupid.

  • Nothing personal OP but prices get jacked

  • +2

I clicked on the 'related' tab, but there were no deals listed. Why haven't any of the 143 people who + voted this deal found anything worth upvoting it?

  • Yeah probably jacked up by eBay, seems to be across the board. I should have cancelled my eBay plus membership after just one month. Oh well you win some you lose some.

  • +2

I think will drop my ebay plus trial month asap. Will likely keep Amazon over ebay just for the lack of price control. Ebay can easily monitor the prices of these sellers before and after they get listed and blacklist them for furtur promotions.

    • +1

Ebay gets a percentage of every sale. So its not in their interest to blacklist anyone.

  • +2

One of the best ebay codes that do not have any deals on the related tab! lol lol..

  • +2

Generally, these 20% at least gives some sort of discount, even if minimal.

But this particular one, seems many are ABOVE RRP even after the 20%, it's bs.

    • +1

There are a few deals, also a lot of ripoff "deals". Its a real mess to sift thru that shit.

  • -3

I'd like an OB rep to comment on these so called sales. There's a risk of reputational damage to OB as well.

    • There's a risk of reputational damage to OB as well.

How so? This post isn't a paid ad. It's posted by an average Joe like you.

    • -2

It has nothing to do with ozb's reputation. ozbs open for all to post deals and it is out of their scope if the prices are not good.

  • +1

I don't see what everyone is comeplaining about, sure some might price jack, but i just got a Razer Blackwidow Chroma v2 Yellow Switch for $168 (down from $210) i could have got the Green switch for $10 less but i don't want it too noisey, my 15 year old PS2 MS Internet Keyboard gets enough complaints when i'm on calls.

I went to HN over the weekend after officeworks didn't have any Keyboards on display (what happened to those days when you could try them out first). HN had it for $317 and would only discount it to $278, i was slack and didn't order it yesterday for 5% off, and now i saved even more.

  • Price jacking is no bueno

  • +1

Gotta send eBay and these sellers a clear message about price jacking. Hopefully they see all these negs

  • +1

Finally negging after checking it out myself that the pricejacking is ridiculous this time…

  • +1

    Where the Ebay rep at

  • I only use DCXpert in this sale. They are actually quite ethical and haven't had my purchases price jacked.

  • The problem with this particular 'sale' is that it looks to be a lot of the smaller retailers. So they can't offer the sorts of prices that the bigger retailers do, which makes their 'discount' prices just seem silly. In other words, this was always going to end in tears negs.

    Marketing fail!

  • At this point these eBay PRICEJACK20 promos hold no value, it's almost always cheaper to buy the same item from sellers not involved in the promo or on the sellers' own site.

  • +1

    I'm reporting to ACDC!!!!!

  • +1

I'm + voting this as I did genuinely save 20% on a heater from Melbourne Electronic (free shipping also). Kudos to them for not jacking up the price.

    • Thanks, bought one as well.

  • +1

Honestly cant find anything that hasnt been price gouged.
