    Hi Op,is that a Min 12mth plan or 24mth?

    • +1

12 month, just got the email about it(min cost of $1267). Seems specific to the 64gb model too. No mention of the 256gb, which would be my personal preference.

    • Min 12 months

  • So how much does the phone cost/what's the total cost?

    • They would go off RRP so $1079/$1329 for 64/256gb. Total costs would be $1267/$1517 for 12 months including the phone.

      • Just got the email, doesn't look like it includes the 256gb

        • The rep below confirmed that it was including the 256gb :)

      • So what is the total cost after discount and including the phone plan?

  • -1

How much does the iPhone 8 cost?

    • $1079 for 64GB, $1329 for 256GB

  • -1

Huge if true, thanks OP! Gonna try some Sydney stores tomorrow

    • let us know how you go

    • Deal ends today. Read description.

edit: OP fix up the description. Employee stated the deal is on tomorrow (sunday) too

  • Hey I'm starting to think it's a great deal…? Anyone got advice/suggestions for better deal ?
    Cheers

    • Jump on this deal. Might not see a better one for iPhones!

  • Oh yes , thanks OP ! Looks like a great deal!!!

  • -1

Does anyone know if i can pay with jb hi fi gift card for the whole cost ($1517)?

    • +2

You could use it on the phone portion ($679/$929 remaining) but not the plan.

    • wait stupid question. The $49 will obviously be going to Telstra directly each month. Mod please remove

    • +2

You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it.

      • Username checks out. Hope you’ve got your socks on today (:

Awesome deal. $930 for 256gb iPhone 8 then add trs if traveling and comes down to $800. Damn! That’s a spicy meatball!

    • $930 for 256gb iPhone 8 then add trs if traveling and comes down to $800. Damn! That’s a spicy meatball!

No your maths is wrong. $836

      • TRS is the GST paid on the tax invoice. So a $1329 phone would have $120.81 GST.
So by my calcs after TRS it should be ~$808 (1329-400-120.81)
        Maybe your maths is wrong?

        • Only if the invoice shows the full amount. Did you check

        • @D6C1:
Ah ok I’m with you now.
I used the gift card last time which was taken off after gst was calculated.
I’m not in the market for a new iPhone but if I was I would suss it out and let you know.
My sincerest apologies if this is not the case.

        • @curtleyw: all good :)

I've been stung before. Some invoices show full amount and discount with total payable. Total payable is what the TRS is calculated on

        • @D6C1:

Fair enough but I don’t see why a gift card would reduce the gst? That’s already calculated into the price of the phone.

        • @blergmonkeys: very valid point. I stand corrected

  • If I went through TRS do I get 1/11 of the full price of the iPhone 8 or only the discounted price? $36 difference basically

    • Whatever is in the tax invoice

  • Great deal! I'll grab one first thing tomorrow!

  • Darn, looks like a good deal, I just wish they do 8 plus model.

  • +1

It's really only a $200 saving off the iPhone 8 since they have $200 credit off this $49/mth plan from time to time (without the phone).

    • Or another way of looking at you can get it direct from Telstra for $39/m and bonus gigawatts as well.

      • how can one do this?

    • +2

ONLY a 200 saving??? How very dare you

    • +2

When have you ever seen $400 off a current gen iPhone though…from a local bricks and mortar…I think it's a pretty cracker deal, especially if you were already considering the Telstra network.

      • But how much is the local store price of iphone 8 or 8+

Most of them are rip off price or charged at RRP price

      • +1

Given that my current plan is $15/month, the $35/month increase is greater than the $400 discount, so I'd be better off buying without the discount.

        • +1

          180 +1079= $1259
          588 + 679= $1267

Unless your plan is close to 25gb pm and on Telstra…I'd say it's pretty marginal, but you're right! $8 is $8!

        • @Dealhunter967671: much less than 25G, but I don't need it, and not on Telstra, but again I don't need it.

$8 is indeed $8, also the added hassle of changing phones, porting a number, going shopping.

Definitely a good deal for some, just not for me ;-)

  • I have an exsiting account with Telstra with a few services on it. Can anyone confirm if it will work to port out the number that is out of contract and then port back into the same account?
I seem to recall needing some sort of waiting period until Telstra ‘forgets’ the port out.

    • Have to be ported out for 30 days before porting back

      • +1

        Even if with Boost Mobile?

        • Boost is a different provider to Telstra albeit that they use the same network.

          (So yes).

        • Yes

        • @Diji1: It's inside the same system. Boost switching to Telstra works like a recontract/plan change rather than a port in.

    • I did it a previous deal. At least 1 day away should work, it did for me at JB Hi-Fi from Telstra prepaid - voda - Telstra

      • Hmm .. but deal ends Saturday. :( FOMO Rising

        • I have a perfectly good 12 month contract with Kogan already paid for but I keep feeling like I'm missing out not jumping on a new S9 or iPhone 8 with this deal…

I need to get off ozbargain.

        • @freefall101:

This. Not even sure I’ll use 25GB but I hate throttling myself during the last week ..

      • Of course it is possible, but as per the rules stated, 30 days is the time that should be followed

  • +15

Here's the lowdown from what I've gathered:

    • this deal is Saturday 26/5 AND Sunday 27/5, it was extended last night!
    • the $400 is available towards both the 64gb ($679) AND the 256gb ($929)
    • it does not include the 8 PLUS variants
    • available to NEW PORT INS ONLY (minimum out of Telstra for 30 days)
    • you cannot stack 2 X ports @ $400 each towards 1 iPhone purchase, the first will warrant that $400, and the 2nd will be given a $200gc instead (which can be used on the phone if you wish)
    • not a $400 gift card, but discount on phone purchase and must be redeemed on that phone.

Edit: also please do not try port out/in UNLESS you're willing it do so for the 30 days; even if you do manage to somehow get an employee to put it through for you unknowingly, (and we do get in trouble for that) - it's a weekend and you run the risk the port will get stuck.

    Here's the official press release:

you're an absolute gentleman, thank you for sharing!

      • You're welcome :) this site has given me many $$$ in savings, always happy to help with Telco/JB related deals!

    • That doesn't mention the 256gb model on that press release. I even received the email, saying only 64gb. Is there an official confirmation on the 256gb, or has anyone done this yet?

      • Can confirm it works for both 64/256 variants…I put through 2 of each today myself alone.

      • +1

I bought a iPhone 8 256GB from Castle Hill JB today afternoon with this deal.

    • Just asked hifi artarmon guys, they are not aware of extension for this deal. How can maje sure that the deal has been extended?

      • It's definitely extended, try it tomorrow - it'll definitely be honoured. Sundays means ports often don't go through so you may find you'll have to wait until another day to actually be able to buy the phone. This excludes if you're porting from Optus - they seem to be instant all the time! Hahaha.

    • Thanks for the info! There's no wiggle room for the iPhone 8 Plus ?

      • You still get a $200 gift card instead?:)

  • i currently have an iphone 6s, still works fine. might consider upgrading to a 9 with the new a12 chip if i can get a good deal then

    • The A11 chipset is already blazing fast, but yeah…the new iPhone on 7nm architecture should be spectacular for performance and battery life. I'll be getting one of them too!

      • should be spectacular

Maybe it should but the reality is mobile technology has stalled, additional performance doesn't translate to significant differences for most users and new features are not being added like before.

And tanking sales for all brands reflects this.

        • +1

Exactly why I haven't bothered to "upgrade" my 6s. It works 100% fine. Helps that I didn't downgrade to ios11 which means it's still super fast ;)

        • @DiscoJango:
6s plus doing fine for my wife and I as well. Still looks like current and goes well enough not to warrant an upgrade.

    • Yeah, great idea. YOur photos app and snapchatting will see AMAZING performance increases.

      Give me a break….

      • "have a break, have a kit kat"

  • +2

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Do I pay $400 less or do I pay RRP and get $400 in JB gift cards? Any chance of a similar deal (obviously pricier) for the iPhone X?

edit: re-read an earlier post, it is actually a discount.

  • What would be easiest way to get this if I am currently on a telstra month-month plan?

    • Just a guess, but- get a new prepaid number (for example, in SA you can get an Optus $10 starter kit for $3 at OTR, other providers and mobile networks may be available where you are).

Then port across, and just let all your friends know you have a new number?

      • No. Cancel old service, get on chat and ask for the new service to take your old number. They can swap it's just a pita.

  • Ugh I wish this was extended until Monday - I need a new work phone but I need approval first.

    • Do it. Then if you don’t get approved, flog it off for a profit. Suppose it would look bad doing a retrospective approval though

  • OMG damn. just got the iphone 8 plus

  • Got three phones and two plans already…and now this thing comes…

  • Anyone in Melbourne who would like to get the phone but don't want the Telstra plan?
I need a telstra plan but already have a phone.
    maybe we can talk :)

    • Hey there, I'd be interested - I can't PM you for some reason though?

    • I just need a phone, I am interested, ( glen Waverley)

  • great deal, dont have a JB out here.Tried call Telstra but they cannot offer the same deal.

  • Is any one can confirm : I already have a telstra mobile account ,if I take this offer under my name, can I share my data pool?

  • +2

$400 off the iPhone is great, but I don't really wanna pay $49 for the plan…

  • might be a dumb question, but anyone know if the phone locked to Telstra network or can I pop any other sim cards to use it? thanks

    • 99% sure Telstra do not lock their phones

    • You only see the telstra logo on startup that's it…

  • Oohh i am interested in phone anyone selling..? PM me

  • Hi, is there anyone is Sydney who wants the plan but not the phone, as I need the phone but not the plan

    • Why the hell would they want a plan that they can get themselves online? THe phone will also be registered under their name.

    • How much are you willing to pay for the phone?

      • waste of time man

  • Went in store today to check it out, there seemed to be a similar deal with the galaxy S9, maybe slightly more than $400 discount on that.

Store rep told me that I could port over to someone else then come back in store to get this deal, maybe store reps are not aware of the 30 day thing that was mentioned in this thread. Based on the advice I was given in store I will give it a shot.

Why are people so enthusiastic about this crap?

Who wants to join a Telco that leaves you with no cellular connectivity multiple times a year?
    Telstra are a joke.

    • In many parts of the country they are the only option.

  • sweet $400 off, now I'll only need to pay a few grand for an iPhone…

  • Shame the 8 plus is not on this deal - would have switched in a flash

  • Thanks OP, sending this from my brand new 256GB iPhone 8 !!!
    Great deal !!!!
