Update:

  • Item was discontinued and was put on clearance.
  • Initial online orders that were put in before they ran out of the stock in their warehouse will be fulfilled.
  • Orders after the stock ran out will not be fulfilled as they usually can put another order in from the manufacturer but as it's a discontinued, they can't get more stock.
  • People who put in an order early but chose click and collect will get it if the local store had stock. If no stock, you wont get nothing as the warehouse ran out of the stock fairly quickly with online orders and deliveries.

Was placed almost instantly after the post

    • same here,
Your order can not be tracked. Please call Officeworks to track your order.

      • i've always had issues tracking orders. I think this one goes directly into their business orders system which isn't linked to their consumer orders system which is their entire website.

I had the same issue when ordering a mobile phone, which by default they get routed to business orders.

        • +2

No, mine was trackable online before, but not anymore.
I reckon OW started cancelling the orders.

Called Officeworks as it was no longer possible to track my order. Customer rep informed me the item was already out of stock and no order will be fulfilled. Either call them to speed up the refund process or wait for the official cancellation of orders.

The system should have shown out of stock this morning, rather than allowing people to order.

    • +11

The system should have shown out of stock this morning, rather than allowing people to order.

Officeworks are incompetent and their systems are rubbish, they have refused to invest any more into their ecommerce platform and it looks like something from the year 2000. And how multiple orders like this can keep going through their system for more than a few minutes before an alarm is raised internally that they deal with immediately instead of allowing 10,000 orders to be placed over half a day is beyond my comprehension. They will now speed days or weeks cancelling and refunding orders, customers will be pissed off and all it does is create a negative image of Officecrap. Surely by now the product should have been updated to the correct price but nope it's still there are the likely incorrect one which they won't pickup on until tomorrow.

And of course the best thing is it still shows up as stock available online and you can still click on add to cart, they system is too dumb to say out of stock and remove the green clickable button wasting the time of many more customers because they are so incompetent.

And of course as you said you click on track your order and you get….

"Your order can not be tracked. Please call Officeworks to track your order."

This is yet another company that deserves to shut down, it's about time there was some decent competition in the office supplies market as Officecrap is just like Bunnings now.

      • +9

Lol, you sound like you really were expecting this to be honoured. The old adage 'When it seems too good to be true it probably is'. You should have had this running through your head when clicking the buy button as the majority of people probably were on here.

        • Lol, you sound like you really were expecting this to be honoured.

No I'm not expecting it at all but I purchased in the off chance that this was a legitimate bargain from Officecrap. There is no reason for a large store like Officecrap, DJ's or Myers to have such pathetic websites in today's age.

The old adage 'When it seems too good to be true it probably is'.

The problem is you never know what a bargain is anymore with these stores because if you find one and buy it they cancel the order with zero consequences. The large stores should be held to account for these errors, they have the staff and the money to develop websites that have checking built in for discounts so they can't make mistakes.

        • +1

I've had things honored when items was like $300 but sold for $29.99…. My most epic one would be the Logitech Steering Wheel.

      • +1

        Entitled much?

Chill if it’s a mistake, it’s a mistake. Let’s not make grand gestures of closing stores etc.

Are you going to say the same to Amazon? I have had from memory three cancellations due to price errors on their stores. Remember the DVD deal for the entire series of CSI Miami for like $20.

        • +1

          Entitled much?

No but I expect more from large retailers who for some reason have websites with less functionality then an oscommerce install and equally incompetent staff.

Chill if it’s a mistake, it’s a mistake. Let’s not make grand gestures of closing stores etc.

This so called mistakes shouldn't happen especially not for an organisation the size of Officeworks. I have no issues with mistakes on smaller online stores but Officeworks have the resources to make sure these so called errors never make it to the website.

Are you going to say the same to Amazon? I have had from memory three cancellations due to price errors on their stores. Remember the DVD deal for the entire series of CSI Miami for like $20.

How are they the same. Amazon is operating like ebay in the examples that you gave and these were all small shops that made mistakes. Amazon if they make a big mistake will honour it. You cannot compare the two.

Officeworks can have checks in place that if a discount is more than a certain percentage it's checked by someone else for example, if sales have increased dramatically within a short period raise an alarm, the staff who see the orders coming in could have the brains to go to management as soon as they see the orders come in so it can be dealt with immediately and so on and so forth. But Officeworks, Harvey Norman, DJ's and Myers all refuse to spend money on developing their own websites and jump from product to product every x numbers of years and continue to offer poor service.

        • @Maverick-au:

How are they the same. Amazon is operating like ebay in the examples that you gave and these were all small shops that made mistakes. Amazon if they make a big mistake will honour it. You cannot compare the two.

When I posted it was from memory that they were sold direct from Amazon. So sensing that you are assuming so much I decided to go have a look myself.

          Checked my receipts:

CSI: Miami - Complete Season 1-10 [DVD] Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L. £54.17
CSI: New York - Complete Season 1-9 [DVD] Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L. £62.50
"Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime" Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime; Toy; £34.99 Usually dispatched within 1 to 2
months Sold by: Amazon EU S.a.r.L.

So I guess Amazon EU S.a.r.L. is a small shop that was right in cancelling the orders? From my experience reading deal websites and on here, Amazon have had their fair share of cancelled order due to pricing error issues and that is direct with Amazon.

But Officeworks, Harvey Norman, DJ's and Myers all refuse to spend money on developing their own websites and jump from product to product every x numbers of years and continue to offer poor service.

I have been happy with Officeworks so far, Harvey Norman yes they are crap, DJs never really shopped there and Myer I have never had a bad service experience with them, they have taken back shoes that have been worn when I discovered the leather wasn't bonded correctly and started to peel when the creases started to form, same with a year old leather belt that I had forgotten all about to return which had the same thing happen to the leather on the first wear, the lady at the menswear department helped me repair a tie I had bought six months ago because the thread that keeps it loose untied itself, purchased toys from Myer because they told me about future Myer One promotions and lastly very patiently issuing gift cards so I can get the bonus value in another gift card and then watching me drop the whole load on buying the Death Star Lego while the 20% off Lego promotion was on.

So apologies if you have had bad experiences with the companies you have mentioned, just don't generalise your experience into that it must be happening to everyone.

      • Can you imagine how different online shopping would be if suppliers were legally held to account for receiving funds for things that they didn't have?

        • They would take your order as an invitation and acceptance would be charging charging your card and then shipping.

Would slow the whole process down.

Just remembered that HP deal that was a few weeks back. Those that ordered online mostly got cancelled and those that went in store got honoured.

Wonder what the cost of manufacture is for benq. Sell 20 units in a month or 10,000 in a matter of hours. Must be a better business model than they have.

    • They'll lose money on every Officeworks sale, but make it up in volume!

i paid via paypal linked to my credit card and it has been refunded back to my card while i was on the phone.

  • Bought 2 before it went out of stock. Not sure about the shipping status though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • +9

Do ozbargainers ever learn? When has there ever been a price reduction of this magnitude with this much interest that has been fulfilled?

    • +3

i think most know its unlikely to be honored, but it's that small voice inside that keeps whispering "maybe it's a genuine bargain and i dont want to miss out".

      • Small voice? That's the loudest voice in my head!

    • +3

One of my first ever OzBargain purchases was a $9 Dell Multifunction printer. Big discount, heaps of interest and products delivered and most even automatically upgraded to the MUCH nicer black wireless model (525W)! Refer: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/73273 I bought three of them and they all turned up. My Dad & Bro were also blown away. Cheap Birthday presents that year :) It sometimes pays to have faith.

      • +1

That’s the definition of having faith and a miracle occurring. But miracles are rare.

      • +1

Yeah, I got one, but the ink dries out way before I use it after a first print. Bought after-market replacement cardridges for $35, which dried out after a single print. So my $10 525W printer will be landfill soon.

        • +1

Landfill is a great way to stay above rising sea levels so it's all good ;)

Can anyone tell me why Officeworks or anybody else for that matter would not be legally obliged to provide goods. My understanding of the law is they invited offer to purchase, I made and offer and they accepted payment. How is that not a legally enforceable contract?

    • +1

There will be something deep in their T&C's that says price errors do not have to be fulfilled.

    • +1

Website Terms and Conditions of Purchase

      1. Ordering goods

We reserve the right to reject your order for products or services purchased through the Website for any reason, including but not limited to if the products or services are not available, if there is an error in the description or price of the requested products or services as advertised on the Website or if there is an error in your order. If we reject your order, we will notify you by email of our rejection at the time you place the order or within a reasonable time thereafter and give you the option of reconfirming your order, changing your order or cancelling your order. If we are unable to contact you, we will treat the order as cancelled. If your order is cancelled and you have already paid for your purchase, you will receive a full refund.

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/terms-of…

    • If you read the fine print somewhere…sellers are not obliged to keep their end of the deal if there’s been a pricing error, mistake in a catalogue/website etc…

      https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2018/04/is-it-legal-for-retail…

    • There is an exclusion on price errors. But what determines a pricing error?

      • Exactly - JB could on a regular day just say "wait, we changed our minds and have canceled your order. The price is now $500 more, do you still want to buy it?" That's false advertising, and if these orders are cancelled, there's a case to be made that this is too.

        • This is what Consumer Affairs victoria has to say about it:
          https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/products-and-services/busine…

          Pricing mistakes
If a business advertises an incorrect price by mistake, they are not obliged to sell their product at that price. However, they must withdraw the product from sale until the price is corrected.

If a customer places an order at an incorrect price, the business must inform the customer of their mistake before processing the order and give them the choice to continue with their order at the correct price, or cancel it. Alternatively, the business can choose to honour the discounted price as a sign of good will.

If a price seems unusually low, the customer can prevent any issues by asking the business if the price displayed is correct.

        • @lplau: To me, the key words are

they must withdraw the product from sale until the price is corrected

So if I'm standing at the checkout, and the price is advertised on the shelf as X, and it scans as X, either they have to sell it to me at the advertised price right there and then, or remove the item from sale completely until they fix it.

(Even it if scans at Y>X, they have to go by the lowest advertised price or withdraw the product from sale.)

        • @lplau: I called up after the order and asked the lady about it. She said it’s fine, just on order from the supplier. Does that count as “asking the business if the price displayed is correct”? Or do I have to explicitly ask that question?

      • -1

There is an exclusion on price errors. But what determines a pricing error?

They knew about this error and didn't correct the price and still allowed people to place orders.
They took no steps to ensure that pricing errors like this didn't occur, for a large business this is inexcusable.
They knew this would not be fulfilled and have only contacted a few people thus far.
They delay the refunds and have in the past taken a week or more to refund.

Officeworks are a joke, large companies should be forced to sell products in cases like this where they had ample time to correct the price and would have been aware of this within minutes of dozens or orders flowing in.

They still haven't corrected the price but now at 19:23 it gives a "Generic System Error" when you visit the page so they kept the page live with the incorrect price for most of the day despite knowing the price was incorrect.

  • -1

But they haven’t rejected order. By accepting payment surely that obliges them to come good. It says in condition 3 options for purchaser, including reconfirmation .

  • Sorry first part of my statement is incorrect, but still gives 3 options for purchaser if order cancelled by seller.

  • The important part of the conditions as shown above is that all options are for buyer not seller. Sorry to belabour point but getting peed of with all these cancellations. Just received a refund from Co-op re raspberry boards. Not good enough.

    • I was about to order one but remember the Fitbit I never got. I see they’re at it again…

    • The important part of the conditions as shown above is that all options are for buyer not seller. Sorry to belabour point but getting peed of with all these cancellations. Just received a refund from Co-op re raspberry boards. Not good enough.

The Co-op are also incompetent and they even restocked the Google Homes after they sold out online and now they claim no stock of them! But it took them over five days to cancel my order. Our laws are too weak and large companies should be held accountable for these so called pricing errors.

      • CO-OP are the worst!

    • -1

      I got my RPi

  • I'm going to tell OW convert my payment into store credit, that'll teach them. I'm sick of my hard earned money keep getting rejected.

    • Why would OW not welcome turning your cash into store credit??
