Would this camera be good for taking photos of my kids? $10,000 is a little cheap so I don’t want to get anything that isn’t good /s

    • In the wrong hands this would clearly be a waste of money!

Well your gonna need a lens

get the 600mm f4, for kid's sports and stuff of course

        • Bouncer at the little league game: sorry sir, no interchangeable lens camera past this point

      • He's not going to be able to see very well, cotton.

  • is this good for vertical video and can it sync to tiktok?

Thanks OP. Just in time for my Son's graduation at Day Care.

  • OzNotABargain

    • It actually is - most retailers is still on the RRP, Ted is selling at the same $10k price but no bonus monitor. It's actually a pretty nice monitor for Macs with Thunderbolt.

    • More of a bargain than half the other Oz advertisements that get spammed every day and no one bats an eye

I'm aware that this doesn't apply to 99% of OzBargain, but if you visit Japan twice a year like I do, you can buy the Sony A1 ii, brand new, for 810,000 JPY (AU$8,233.65) from Map Camera in Shinjuku if you present your Australian passport, as this will allow you to pay the pre-tax price.

Of course, you forfeit Australian warranty, you forfeit Australian Consumer Law, and you won't be able to do this if you have a Zairyu card (consumption tax exemptions are only available to tourists). Also, I'm not sure if this also applies to the A1 ii, but historically Sony alpha cameras in the past have had Japanese-only navigation menus for their domestically-sold variants (though for earlier alpha cameras this could also be solved by flashing the firmware with this tool).

    • Definitely a valid choice for some but for me, not keen on forgoing Australian consumer guarantees after seeing the months of runaround someone I know is having with the retailer + Sony for their A1 that they only bought months ago.

But if you were going to buy overseas you would have been prepared to forgo any warranty/support anyway… just be aware while they are generally reliable, you can still get a lemon.

      • I don't get this logic here though, you are paying almost 25% of the item price for the warranty. It's like buying a $500 apple care for my iphone 16 pro…

        • For me, the more expensive an item and repairs will be, the more I will value local warranty/guarantees. This would be especially so for high end bodies which would have much higher repair costs and a longer expected lifespan for the purposes of the consumer guarantees.

If I buy a $2000 body I am not so fussed and can roll the dice, if it breaks I just buy another. If I spend $6000+ on a body then yeah I kinda want some assurances that I am going to be looked after.

    • Even if you don't visit japan regularly, it's still cheaper to fly there, buy it, and come back - a return flight looks to be about 1.1 - 1.5k at the moment. Lol

  • Thanks OP. ordered one each for my kids to take photos of their teddies and stuff at home. better than them using an iPad. they need to learn new skills at such a young age.

  • Can possibly price match at sony, then stack with cashback (you won't get the monitor though)

    • +1

Capped at $250. Bonus battery is a small consolation prize though. Added up, probably nearly the same cost as the monitor…

      • +1

Sony has run uncapped 10% cashback about once or twice a month via CR the last few months though so could get lucky. My last few price matches have only lasted a few days in cart now but maybe they will do something on black friday.

Also need to run the risk of CR/Sony denying cashback due to price match.

  • I've had my A7iii for ~5 years now and don't have the slightest urge to upgrade.

I wonder how many of these top end pro bodies actually end up in the hands of cashed up home enthusiasts.

    • The price would weed out most enthusiast from the pro's. 10K is a lot of coin.

    • Depends on what you use it for (and obviously how much disposable income you are willing to throw at things), for more challenging conditions like concerts even Sony's latest AF still has plenty of room to improve.

  • Great deal! definitely overkill for me but very tempted to get one…
