    • Out of interest, how did you pay for the laptop? They aren't sending you a refund cheque for a CC payment right? Surely this would have been a direct debit transaction?

  • +1

No CC or Paypal for payment method online?

All I can see is Internet Banking, Bank Deposit and Bpay as payment methods?

    • -1

      Yes this is correct.
Paypal fees are too expensive, and direct credit card processing is not secure.
We accept credit card via Bpay

      • +2

"All online orders must be ordered for and paid for during this 24 hour period"

But by using Internet Banking, Bank Deposit and Bpay, isn't it impossible to confirm the payment within 24 hour period?

        • +1

We do not have a normal account or normal facility like the average users internet banking facility
we are a business banking customer and everything is time stamped as well as automatically assigned.
The website may not reflect this, this is the only bottleneck.
every payment sends automatic notification similar to paypal.
Accepting payment through our website only adds to traffic and conjestion on our website, making it more unstable.

          Guys
less than 1% of customers miss out on our web deals, most people get what they pay for or we would not be in business.

Your not going to hear from every single one of our customers saying, yes I paid and got it.
          People dont report the norm.

      • Will Bpay payments via credit card accrue any additional charges?

  • +1

Wow - the prices on the 17" ASUS gaming laptops are pretty damn good.
$2199 for the G73JW-TZ039V is very good. I will buy one of these

Sandy Bridge is being released on 5 Jan so I expect a LOT of laptops are going to crash in price in the next few weeks.

    I plan to buy 2x 1.5tb external hdd's and the TZ039v….

    • What would postage be for the above order - laptop + 2 external hdds?

      • +1

        just add to cart,
        shipping costs will not change
its $29 per notebook, this coveres, door to door, insurance and online tracking via TNT
plus $9 per 3 lots of acessories.

    • The G53 is an awesome gaming laptop, a lot of the staff use this for Starcraft 2 with an external 24" monitor.
Goes without saying very suitable for deisgners and architects.

  • Will online be anything like the recent Mwave sale? That is, page won't even load because the site is getting hammered?

    • +1

      No idea,
it is always a possibility, I cannot answer this,
we are addressing these issues, hopefully we will not have this problem.

this is part of the reason why we do not process payments on our website and only acccept Bpay and internet banking
once the order is placed, and you pay electronically, you are using your own internet banking website to make the payment, so the liklihood of it crashing when you are trying to make a payment will be minimal.
Payment gateways put a lot of strain on a website as it is sending information back and forth during the transaction,
by using the banks website we are diverting traffic away from the entire process.

Our servers resources are not being used when you are trying to make payment, so we can actually take more orders at once.
Unfortunately the available bandwith and other hosting centres in Australia are not the best, and hopefully the proposed NBN will also assist in the long run by helping all Australian businesses to take more customers at once.

  • Hi mln, is there any chance you could put one of the lenovo i3s on the scale with battery for exact weight?

Can purchase be made online and payment completed for pickup from store in the new year?

    Thanks.

    • +1

      Should be 2.6-2.7kg. Average weight.

    • +1

I cant get the exact weight at the moment,
I found this, no idea how accurate it is.
But this website is very very good for information.
      http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Ideapad-G560.26481.0.htm…
      The germans are brilliant!
edit: this is the weight of the entire box, so the laptop will be around 2.6kgs approx.
Dont hold me to it please.

All online orders are for delivery only, and if you wish to pick up, its best to come in store and do so.
We currently do not offer pay online, pickup in store.
The dynamics and stock allocation are too complex.

EDIT: 2.6kgs including the battery confirmed on a pdf file provided by Lenovo.

  • rekon the i3 lenovos will sell out? id have to place an order online cos i live in qld.

    • Maybe they will maybe they will not,
but if you pay before others you will get allocation

      • im just worried about missing out cos of the priority to instore customers

  • -1

will you be having the hard drive offer online? and how much will the postage be?

    • It was posted on the first page of the comments, its $9 for up to 3 items, and its also on their website.

  • -2

I am not voting for this either way, but this is basically a waste unless you can get in store

This "priority' rubbish is just a waste of time, all that will happen is that they wont honor a sale after the money is taken, then offer you a refund on anything popular.

If you take money for a transaction, honour it.

Mix that with no paypal etc, = fail.

    • +7

There will be thousands who will say otherwise.
We will not give you whats popular?

      for example
If the Iomega drive sells out, we will offer a Samsung drive if available, if you dont want it, we will refund it all.
I don't see how you can lose on this?

I will address the paypal issue again,
the costs as a seller for paypal are too high, and those of you think you do not pay for these costs are mistaken,
all costs are passed onto the customer, whether its interest free or paypal a cost is always added to the cost of the product.
simply its cheaper and safer to use Bpay when purchasing from MLN (it will be different for every merchant)
MLN prides itself with being able to pass our savings onto our customers.
      https://www.mln.com.au/info/?type=why-mln-is-cheaper

Though I understand your concerns and respect your choice, and its really great to hear from you as it is very helpful in understanding your mindset, I'm sure some of the thousands of people who will buy from MLN over this period will also report that they had no problems with receiving stock.

      • -1

cheaper for you yes! safer for us? NO!!!
you could give us the Paypal option on OUR expenses!
        Fair and square

        • -1

This is not ebay, if you want to pay by paypal, shop elsewhere.

        • +1

          @garratt torlesse
          Most stores accept pp nowadays

        • Sorry this is not inline with MLN's overall business strategy,
we are aiming to provide everything to all customers, online and instore at the same low price.
This is why MLN is unique and can provide all specials, not just a limited selected few products but everything all the time at the same low price.
There is no point in having large buying power if all the savings get absorbed in your enormous operational costs, the end user, the customer does not benefit from this.
Contrary to beleif, all customers pay for every businesses cost, everytime you park you car in the customer car park, hear a radio ad, pay via Paypal, interest free or credit card you, the customer is paying for this either directly or indirectly, these costs are directly or indirectly added to the cost of the product in one way or another.

We believe the best business is the one that can operate on a low cost structure, without compromising on quality and service, having a very strong buying power and pass these savings onto the end user, giving our customers the best possible value at all times.

What is important is to minimise these costs, so the end user, the customer can benefit from these savings.
Even after our competitors have a 15%-20% off sale on notebook computers for example, you will notice most of our normal pricing on our products available for sale, are already cheaper anyway. Our unique business model allows for us to achieve this. We do not beleive in having the illusion of having a sale if you can already pass this saving on from the start.

We do not have credit card surcharges
We do not have varying shipping costs,
everything is the same price for everyone.

When ordering online, you can pay via internet banking, direct deposit, TT or Bpay (Visa, Mastercard),
the Bpay gateway is the most secure way to receive payment as the buyer must log onto their own internet banking facility, and pay with their credit card using tha banks own gateway. Thsi minimises traffic on our site making products available to all, and once you have you automatically generated Customer reference number (CRN) for Bpay with MLN, it never changes, you can use this same CRN whenever you order anything from MLN, using your Visa or mastercard and you pay nothing extra for this.

This is a total package and for us to be able to do this, all aspects of the business are streamlined.
We realise this may not appeal to every Asutralian but hopefully most people will benefit from the overall MLN offerings.

    • Yeah, it will be interesting to come back to this thread after boxing day and see how many people ordered and payed in full only to be told later item oversold—and how long to receive their refund?

The MLN rep has basically admitted some stock will most likely be oversold (which has happened on previous occasions even for less complex sales) which doesn't give you much faith. If an item is not in stock it shouldn't be sold—instead of a barrage of excuses on the complexity of inventory and ordering systems.

I look forward to their multi-million dollar website/ordering/system upgrade next year.

I am happy to give a positive vote when warranted, but prefer to wait until the proof is in the pudding.

Question MLN: How long to receive a refund if an item is oversold? 3 weeks as experienced by your customer in this thread?

      • Camelgrass, refunds take time to process, not becuase we enjoy keeping our customers money and upsetting them, but simply we have to ensure we are refunding the exact amount to the correct person, the last thing we want to do is send the incorrect amount to the wrong person, best to get it right once.

        Again
        all I can say is
stock will sell out, it always does thats what the intention of this sale is, as with any sale. To sell all of the stock we have.
There is no excuse here? simply this sale is intended for us to sell all of our overstocked products.
Thats why MLN is doing this.

Again thousands of happy customers will never be heard as much as the 3 upset customers.
MLN does not gain from promoting minimal amounts of product to the masses only to dissapoint. All that gains is unhappy customers which is obviously not what we want.
This is the most stock we have ever had, and we need to sell it all.
        Again
        if we do sell out,
you will be offered a replacement or something better, or a new ETA on when the stock you ordered should arrive if available, or a full refund for which you can request at any time if what you ordered is not available.

Again may I remind you thats this only ever happens less than 1% of the time, which means out of 1000 orders less than 10 orders may be faced with this situation, these 10 customers will most likely be the most vocal about their situation, while the other 1000 customers are probably not as likely to say, "yes I ordered and it came after 7 days" People do not report or post the norm. I buy many things online and I have never gone out of my way to talk about these experiences (though I probably should) and on the few occasions I have had issues, I have gone out of my way to make these issues known to the world.
Selling out of stock is normal, and customers being unhappy about it is also normal, as I or anyone would be upset about this also but hopefully we learn to deal with this better and improve the way in which we can better serve our customers and offer better options for these situations which make up for less than 1% of all transactions and also minimise this even further with better systems, but most importantly keep our customers happier during this entire process by exceeding their expectations.
I have been as honust and as transparent as possible when annswering all of your questions here.
We will sell out, that is the aim of this sale, those who come first or earliest will have a much higher chance.

can I filter out all melbourne and sydney deals… argh..

    • Scotty's been researching various solutions but it may be quite a while for him to get a solution working and in place.

  • +3

+1 for the great bargain HP DV3 (3 of) laptops I bought from MLN last year!!

    • I wish I bought this :(

      • From memory it was over 2000 units.
Thanks for letting us know you guys exist as well.

  • Is there any 8gb or 16gb USB sticks available? Any suggestion how much they will cost?

4GB for $1 is nice, but I'd be interested in higher capacity also.

    • yes there is, there are plenty of sticks available in Sandisk and Toshiba, we always have these products.

      • How much will they cost, can you say? Thanks

        • +1

Its on our website, a lot of options are available,
click on accessories then storage or visit your nearest store.
It maybe be less on boxing day as well.

  • so no ati cards on special?

    I reeally need a 6850 or 6870 >_<

    • Only 6370 ATM, too junior for what you need.

  • Looking forward to what's listed in the sale - could you advise as to whether you'll have any SDHC Class 10 cards on sale? (I'm specifically after SanDisk…)

    • ATM there is a very big shortage on class 10 SD cards
we have Toshiba stock coming in the new year.
we have had big problems with getting this.

  • +1

    • +1

yeah lol i want a WHOLE brochure of all items on sale
      plan to buy storage only

    • I think what is in the brochure is what they have heaps of stock - everything else may be limited so thats why they didnt print it.

    • +1

There will be many more products going online,

  • +1

MLN, you guys should chuck the $1 usb sticks with free postage if we buy other stuff.
I know you said earlier that mix and match any three items for $9 postage..

But if I want to buy 3 HDDs for $9 postage, I don't want to fork out another $9 for a usb stick!
You guys should do combo deals!

  • +1

So your stores are open from 12:01 am correct? Kind of confusing saying 24 hours when on the bottom it says the opening hours in the catalogue.

  • Do you guys have any NAS for an unbelievable prices?

  • any netbooks for sale?
    or ultra-portables?

    • +1

  • 17" Asus is a very good price.
But the 15" G53JW-FHD-SZ056V can be bought for $1 more elsewhere.
$1700 has me queuing up at midnight to get one ;)

  • +6

MLN rep seems amazing, very well involved, very straight forward. Personally I would like the entire run down included in the body of the bargain, but other then that loving it, planing to buy some HD's.

  • +1

What time does your physical stores open?

    • all stores willl be opening 1 minute past midnight on the nigh of Christmas
      00:01
      till
      11:59
      so thats nearly 24 hours.
      This is for all stores,

  • The external HDD, is it USB3? USB2? or e-SATA?

Is this the same as the Toshiba in the Flier?
It all looks the same to me, but curious because it is a lot cheaper at this other store already.

    • +4

      That is a Celeron notebook,
our sale price on this last month was $429, but we only brought in 100 or so units for a special order and had some left over for retail sale.
It is a different model to what we have, our machine is Pentium based, MLN does not actively promote the sale of Celeron notebooks, we try not to stock this type of notebook due to its poor performance and value for money.
Every MLN employee is tech orientated and we dont sell products unless we 100% believe in them.
I am not saying this product is bad, nor am I implying you should not buy Celeron machines, just stating that we as MLN can offer much better value for $100 more.
I am not rich enough to purchase poor or cheap products and our company tries to always seek the best value products, not just the cheapest, 90% of inventory is based around the Core i3, i5 and i7 range. and the remainder will be ULV, Core 2 and pentium based processors.
I think out of the 15,000 or so units we stock we have around 40 Celeron notebooks.

  • Curious if MSY will price match your prices at all? Not sure if I'll be able to make it to the city on Boxing day..

    • +2

I never knew MSY price matched….
I also remember a sign on the front door at MSY Auburn (the onld one) that they won't price match.

    • +1

      Please remember
MLN does not have a surcharge on Visa or Mastercard, so a product for $1000 is already $20 cheaper if the surcharge is 2%. This is of course if the place that is price matching, charges for Visa or Mastercard of course.

  • Any MLN in WA?

  • "We are unique in a sense where our online and instore pricing is the same, this is a rareity and I am not aware of any business in Australia that can do this across the board for every single product they have."

Pretty sure everyone on here has heard of MSY….

    • +5

Our products are all on display for you to see in store, all the laptop computers are turned on and fully functioning for you to use and make comparrisons and you can also speak to staff about any questions you have about any of the products we sell and seek all the answers you need about their features and how they work.
To do this at a retail level and offer online pricing across the board is where MLN is unique. I am not aware of any other business in Australia that can do this for all products that they sell and not just on a limited range, while maintaining very competitive pricing across the board on all products both in store and online. Having the best price on every product online and instore is what we are trying to achieve and so far MLN has achieved this by not differing in prices.
I am comparring like for like operations, comparisons only work when you compare similar things.

      • -2

I'm referring to the pricing, MSY are the cheapest. Hands down.

        • +2

          Sorry I disagree,
our websites are both public, you can all make up your own mind.
          Noithing to hide here.

        • Then why quote what you did if you were just referring to MSY having the lowest pricing? It was no way relevant to what the rep was actually pointing out (same online + instore pricing across the board).

And not only that, MSY are not always the cheapest especially with notebooks and cameras.

          Fail on both counts.

    • +1

mmm…. MSY doesn't really have a online store as such, it has a online price list and reservation system.

Whereas MLN has an actual online store that you can buy off.

      • +1

Also the service can't be compared. MSY will get the components you ask for and that's about all. MLN's responses to queries here speak volumes alone.

  • The Lenovo G560 has a bad trackpad. Registers clicks every 3rd or 4th press - unusable. Read some reviews before making decision.

    • This is not true, the issue is that the buttions are integrated with the trackpad, most users are likely to press down hard on the trackpad as thats how they have been conditioned to use the trackpad.
This particular trackpad is designed for you to lightly run your finger across the trackpad, its intentionally made in this way.
You will have to re-learn to use a trackpad, when I say re-learn, I mean just run your finger lightly over the trackpad and not press down at all, as it will register this as a click.
This trackpad was designed this way, and it is actually very easy to use once you understand this.

      • Well, then it has a huge fault rate, my mother bought this laptop from you guys about mid year, and I spent about 3 hours playing with settings, installing different drivers, reading threads and just trying to do simple things like copy/paste and double click on icons, and it was the worst experience I have ever had with a trackpad and it besides a small benefit when turning off all the rubbish features that come on the software it was all for naught, as it still sucked.

Though I will point my mum to your description and if it still doesn't work (as I suspect it won't) I guess she can return it defective as there is obviously something wrong.

On the plus side, your laptop prices are fantastic, just a pity I recommended the Lenovo over an Asus one, I didn't realise how far they had fallen from the old IBM days.

Though it would be awesome if you stocked Clevo notebooks, by far the best gaming/desktop replacement laptops I've ever used/seen.

        • nmartin84

I was able to get the failure rate for the G560 from our sales, this is only for those during the DOA period and for a laptop below $800 it is actually the best we have ever had, I beleive at around less than .3% based on 10500 units sold.
This would be 340 units faulty during the DOA period.
This gives it a very low failure rate.

      • MLN, I bought a Lenovo from you and they have fallen way down from the IBM days,
The most irritating thing is CTRL and Fn button SWAP,
Guys beware you will have to reprogram your keybpoard usage to use LENOVO!

  • Will there be any Silver White version of the 1 TB Samsung HDD instead of BLACK?

  • good stuff, im going there at 10pm….

  • Are there any deals on SSDs?

  • Will the Asus X52JB i3 + ded graphics be discounted?

    • +1

      it is possible,

      it looks like it will.

  • "Products will only be available on Boxing day at these prices.
All online orders must be ordered for and paid for during this 24 hour period."

"All I can see is Internet Banking, Bank Deposit and Bpay as payment methods"

Is BPay / Bank Deposit considered instantaneous? Obviously the funds will not transfer within a 24 hour period.

    • Please see above,
      all payments are time stamped

  • I noticed the Samsung Story 2tb USB2 ext hdd is selling at $139 on your website. One site is advertising these at $99 and others are price-matching and beating that price. OfficeWorks has been selling in the low 120s anyway. Is the drive in the catalog the USB2 version at $139? It seems expensive for the USB2. On staticice about ten entries for USB3 under $140. If it is the USB3, what price is the USB2 going for?

  • Looks like I'll be making a trip down to the Heidelberg store sunday morning:)

  • +5

Guys I will be heading off now, I have some last minute Xmas shopping to do. (less than an hour!)
I wish you all the very best this Xmas and good luck with your boxing day bargain buying.
I will be back online, possible Sunday but definately Monday, meanwhile best to communicate with the sales people in each store.

Keep your eyes peeled online for some offers, but most importantly ask while you are instore as to whats happening,
All stores will receive multiple deliveries throughout the 24 hour period from our warehouse so some products will get re-stocked where possible and new offers will become available.
The twitter feed and facebook page will also announce some offers and deals as well, depending on how sales go so the campaign will change through out the day and new products will be added and taken away as well depending on what is selling.

    Best bet is in store.

    Good luck to you all!

    • +1

Happy Christmas to you too and all OZBARGAINERS

    • whats ur twitter feed? or facebook accnt?

  • Slightly Off topic as far as the sale is concerned.

I bought a Lenovo G560 from MLN in North melb opp Victoria Market and was quite happy with the deal and the service. Ofcourse the real test is when something goes wrong, nothing has gone wrong in my case so far, all's good and Happy with MLN will buy from you again.
Just putting this message here for the confidence of other buyers, I have bought from MLN and would buy again, if the price is good.

PS:> TO MLN >> how many 1 TB hard disks have you got in stock ?

  • anyone actually go there right now???

    • +1

          1 hard drive = $9
          2 hard drvies = $9
