"4GB USB memory sticks from $1"

Before i vote -ve for this, i'll give you a chance to tell us how many of these items will be in stock in each store for the sale…

    • +4

$3 at Harvey Norman. No rush. No need to queue at midnight. Just go get it now. :)

      • +1

        Which HN?

  • Without specific models/bargains stared, this is really just advertising isn't it?

    • +10

Clearly advertised in the PDF MLN have linked to. http://www.mln.com.au/img/banner/MLN_Boxing_Day_Sale_hires.p…

It's not like they have 3 different items for sale, there's a heap.. so it really isn't too much trouble to open the PDF and look at it.

        • Sounds like you need a new PC!
Even if you don't have Adobe Reader, it's still not actually that much hassle to load a pdf in an image viewer or alternate PDF viewer!
I don't have Adobe Reader installed and I don't classify it at all difficult to open a PDF!

    • +1

You can view it using Google Docs:

  • +4

Please advise the number of stocks.

    • +6

I cannot give you exact quantities, its a boxing day sale,
boxing day sales are intended to clear the stock thats left over from the Xmas period.
But there are heaps, obviously those who come to the store earliest will have the best chance.
I have given an indication below.

I beleive we are very credible with our quantities and availablity and have always been in the past.

  • +4

    The i3 lenovo seems good.

But yes, please let us know how many stocks are available first.

    • +8

      There are thousands
over 12000 laptops, of which half are below $700
      and 20,000 memory modules
of which nearly half are 4GB usb sticks
its a Boxing day sale guys, so whats left over from Xmas, thats what a boxing day sale is.

      • -4

you will have 12,000 laptops in stock ???

        • +8

We have more than that right now in stock

According to retail sales figures in Victoria MLN makes up 15% of overall sales.
Thats taking into account every retail store and retail operation in Victoria, every retail company and its every outlet in Vic.
We do this with 4 stores.
thats makes us pound for pound number 1

        • +14

Im gonna buy 6000 of then and then sell them all on ebay!! Cha ching baby!

        • +6

          Scampy
          I like your style
          :)

        • From your previous post jv
"Before i vote -ve for this, i’ll give you a chance to tell us how many of these items will be in stock in each store for the sale…"

MLN:"and 20,000 memory modules of which nearly half are 4GB usb sticks"

But by taking brands and memory module into account, by searching on their website there are 7 items which are 4GB(3 x USB)(1 x SD CARD)(2 x SDHC)
Assuming that they are in equal quantities of each so [nearly half of 20000(assume 9000)], so 9000/7=rounds up to 1300
So they will have approx 1300 of the Lexar 4GB selling.(theoretical analysis only)

          @MLN reply(i cannot reply anymore)
okay cool, so you are selling not just the LEXAR 4GB but also the other 4GB if LEXAR is not avaliable, that's awesome

        • +6

          issh
your wrong we have a lot more than that
and beleive me when I say, we are more credible than that, and if Lexar is not available, something else will be at the same price.
We have heaps of stock that needs to go.
We cant advertise or list everything for this exact reason, when we are unsure about quantities we try to ensure we do not dissapoint and rather advertise less than whats more to avoid this. Thats why only a few products are listed on the PDF sheet.
Dont just ask for what is listed when you come in store, remember to look around and ask for all the other stuff.

    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=896

    • +2

Please visit your nearest store, unless it reflects online we cannot
Our main Xmas specials will most likely not change in price as they are already very cheap, selling very well and we have no room to move on the price, plus there is no need too.
Please see here as to why
      https://www.mln.com.au/info/?type=why-mln-is-cheaper
MLN has large buying power, but is able to pass these savings onto our customers upfront as we have low overheads. Most of our specials are already cheap straight off the bat.
Example: we could start at $899 then do a 20% sale as well, that would bring the notebook to $720. which would still make it more expensive than our current Toshiba special at $697. Our business model is not based on hoping you are not aware of our specials or giving the illusion that something is on sale.
Our online, in store, catalogue, promotional & special prices are all the same across the board no matter how you order or where you get it from.
We are unique in a sense where our online and instore pricing is the same, this is a rareity and I am not aware of any business in Australia that can do this across the board for every single product they have. The only time something is not available online, is if we do not have enough stock.

No point buying products in bulk and volume, if you cant pass the savings on becuase you have a massively expensive operation.

This is why our $599 and $697 special for our Xmas catalogue is 20-25% cheaper than a lot of the big retailers.
We can afford to pass our savings onto our customers. Not keep them or spend this money on our operational expenses.

  • so i'm assuming it's 00:01 26th of December Boxing day EST
so it will be 11:01pm 25th December 2010 for me(i'm in qld[no Daylight Saving]?

    • +4

Yes times are based on Vic.
hopefully our servers will be able to handle the traffic, sometimes we get an overload when everyone jumps on at the same time,
disadvantage is, that you cant order,
advantage is that either can someone else. So you still have a shot.

But we do have the capacity in place to have over 20,000 computers log onto our website at once.
We are also looking at making a significant multi million dollar investment in 2011 upgrading all of our electronic systems and website.

      • … multi million dollar :-O …. are you serious?

      • -1

I would dispute your claim of >20K users. Given you aren't cloud hosted most ecommerce sites with the exception of top tier (eg amazon) would be able to sustain that level of sessions. Hopefully your zonenetworks hosting is better than rackspace (COTD)

        • +3

          Hopefully you are right,
Our hosting is actually very complex with multiple servers in multiple locations.
The truth is, we are not really setup for large online visitors coming onto our website all at once, and its very hard to do so.
The costs involved are enourmous, but MLN is working towards it and we have allocated a lot of money for 2011 to change all of our systems over to a better and more efficient system that will take more than this amount.
this is all based on the advice I have been given,
I cannot comment on other resellers, but I believe COTD gets a lot more than 20,000 computers at one time, pretty sure its a lot more than that. COTD has a state of the art setup for an Australian business.

I will have to check with our tech dept, to reconfirm but our internal memo had stated this quantity. for us and it was the target in 2009
I do not know how to prove this to you.

        • +3

hahahaha, is COTD's system state of the art? That's a pretty crap state to be in.

        • +1

He said state of the art for Australia :) sums it up well.

  • -4

You're not going to charge $15 to deliver a USB stick.. are you?

    • +4

I just listed the accessory cost above,
      here it is again
it is also clear on our website. Our shipping costs are very reasonable, transparent and cost effective.
PLEASE NOTE AGAIN, PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO INSTORE CUSTOMERS AND NOT ALL PRODUCTS MAY MAKE IT TO THE WEB.
IF WE ARE SELLING IN STORE, IT MAY BE PULLED FROM THE WEB. I CANNOT KNOW, EITHER CAN ANYONE ELSE AS TO WHAT WILL HAPPEN AND WHAT IS EXACTLY AVAILABLE.
We do have a lot of stock though!

$9 for any three lots of accessories, thats any mix match on hard drives, memory sticks etc:

      eg:
      1 hard drive = $9
      2 hard drvies = $9
      3 Hard drives = $9
      4 hard drives = $18
      5 hard drives = $18
      6 hard drives = $18
      7 hard drives = $27
      and so on

      • -8

Ah I see. Accessory cost = shipping cost. Well thanks for that.

        • +4

Just not your day, is it Leonheart lol

        • -6

          I couldn't care less. :)

    • +4

$9 for every 3 items.. look up!

  • How does the 'priority' work? Online orders will be not be honoured after you've taken the money?? Please let me know.

    • +1

As its impossible for us to know exactly how many people are genuinely ordering and paying for, for example in a 10 minute block, sometime products sell out faster than we can intervene, the website may only reflect the exact quantity every hour or so. When you add interstore transfers and retail sales to the equation it can be complex.

one of the following three options will happen if stock that is paid for is not available.

      1) we will give you a new ETA on when it will be delivered (maybe a further 3-10 day delay)
      2) A replacement offer, if available will be offered
      3) A full refund will be issued if the above two cannot be offered or is not wanted.

At any time, if the product you ordered and paid for is not in stock, if you want your money back, we will issue a 100% refund no questions asked. No refunds are given for stock ordered, if we have stock.

  • +16

        • +1

yeah. ozbargain is one thing, this is completely ridiculous.
some people have been trampled to death by these stupid americans.
all in the name of a sale.

    • +3

its important that the positive votes keep coming, all you guys need to realise, if you dont vote, we will not list.
The future of this style of promoting is in your hands, internally resources will be allocated elsewhere if people do not make their voices heard, when I say heard they need to positive ones as well!
While I welcome constructive questions and request, please do not forget to vote, as this is the justification needed internally for all companies to justify offering promotions.
      :)

      P.S
      issh
      thats a great video!

      • +2

If the boss wants measures of how successful is advertising here, voting alone is not accurate.

Voting can help get other people's attention for sure.

        But better indicators include:
        - how well internet sales do (though that's not specific to just OzBargain and can be impacted by other factors like how the servers cope, what deals are offered etc)
        - click throughs

There are multiple sales approaches to how to increase click throughs. It's mentioned in the guidelines, that if you have good deals, putting details in the body of the deal is a very good idea.

Many people here are trying to save some time in shopping. They are already bombarded with catalogues and advertising on tv where they are told various retailers have great deals.

But they hope to glance at deals here and see specifics that are very attractive … then they will go visit your website.

That said, so far you've got 1269 clicks, so with word of mouth, not sure how many people that equates too, in addition to posting out your catalogues and sending out the emails.

        • +4

          Thanks foundit

We are measuring all of these things as well, analytics are done elsewhere and hopefully I can share the report with you later.
but positive clicks is still an indication to what people want, and thats what is most important, if we only hear from trolls and negatively orientated people, then regardless of the sales results, it will be pulled, no company wants a bad image. So its not just about sales.

It turning into sales however, is a much more complex formula, whats important is that I get the clicks, sales and the web team can worry about their end of their job, everyone has their own department to worry about.
If I am doing my job well, they should worry about theirs :)

We have a very big radio campaign scheduled in Melbourne amongst other things as well, so we will see what happens I guess.

      • That said, what you've written looks pretty good :)

I look forward to seeing how the MLN servers go :)

        • +2

          foundit
          me too
really worried now, pressure is on. I dont want to dissapoint at all!

      • +3

Umm I thought other vendors got in trouble for saying stuff like "if you don't vote, we will not list" ??

        • Umm
          I never said that?

        • +4

          Yeah you did. =/
First line of your post: "its important that the positive votes keep coming, all you guys need to realise, if you dont vote, we will not list."
Same thing logitechshop/bargaincrypt got hit with.

        • +3

ala logitechshop? nowhere to be found again. e-penis boosting.

That said, MLN looks pretty cool, I've never bought from them, but I've referred some people to them - and they have been happy with the service!

        • Yeah, MLN please just don't go there. Many users here still have a very bitter taste in their mouths over what has happened in the past with other reps.

You guys are doing really great deals these days, and you reputation here is one of the best due to that. You don't need +votes here, you need sales. Many users simply leach the deals without even bothering to vote.

Look at my last deal I posted for an example…http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/34188
You will see at least 2 users actually bought the TV using my post, but they don't have a + next to their posts.

        • +1

Understood guys, thanks for the heads up, stumo
I was not aware of this in general or of what has been happening to others.
          I really meant,
we need feedback, I really mean to say we need to hear the good as well, not just the bad.
          Thats all.
          will stop here.

  • I can't vote but give you a positive. I think it is pretty good particularly compared to what other companies put up on here as bargains.
Especially when you can order online as well for the same price and shipping is very reasonable.
I think others like MSY etc need to have a look a this model as I for one would rather order online pay the shipping and not have to travel or wait in line to save $10.

  • I can imagine I'm going to be the last person in a very very long queue. Or, the person in front of me will end up buying the last stocked items I want.

    • +1

Might have to pack some of that Christmas dinner to go….

  • What time u guys reckon we need to queue up for this? From 10pm? :D
P.s: Big positive vote for the bargain

    • +1

I hope this doesn't turn out to be a "physical store" COTD style crash-a-thon. IMO, those crazy COTD hourly sales bait tactics do more harm than good. All they really achieve is to piss a lot of ppl off! IMO, MLN stock levels have been pretty good with previous sales so if it gets crazy instore come 12ish, I'm just going to try my luck early the next morning.

      • +4

        Obs
we dont do this every day or every hour.
once a year, so forgive us if it does happen. :)

Also a lot of products are already very cheap, we dont need to do clearance sales often.
This decemeber has been softer than expected, thats all, so we have too much stock of a lot of things.

If you compare our pricing, our so called "normal" pricing is usually a lot lower than a lof of other stores anyway. This is due to our business model.
Basically its becasue of the following reason.
        https://www.mln.com.au/info/?type=why-mln-is-cheaper

You can also subscribe to the twitter feed and facebook page for other things we dont make a lot of noise about.

  • +5

These sales are awesome, I can't wait to jump online on Boxing Day. I need another hard drive and I certainly wouldn't say no to a $1 usb drive on top.

MLN Rep don't mind the haters, there are some of us on here who have saved thousands of dollars over the last few years (me included) by being members on this site and most of us DO appreciate the time and effort that reps from companies like yours put in to help us save that money.

Keep specials like these coming, and I'm sure the true bargain hunters will show you the love :)

    • +11

      Thank you guys
Please remember to voice your positive remarks( as well as your negs of course.)
Not just for MLN but for everyone on this site who posts all sorts of good deals, its important that this community keeps all good deals alive, becuase without a lot of good sellers offering great bargains there will be no community to work with.

  • +3

Most products will be available online as well

Big thumbs up for that MLN! :)

  • Keep the bargains coming, I've been buying from MLN since your $2 USB keys last year.. Bought 2 laptops from you guys since that bargain put you on my radar!

Hate to do this, but I would like to point out that your boxing day sale lasts 12 hours, but your flyer says open 24 hours. Doesn't really compute to me :) Unless you're referring to the website being open 24 hrs?

    • +1

no no, we are open 24 hours
      start
      00:01 (am)
24 hours later (short 2 minutes)
      is 11:59 (pm)

Short of 2 minutes on 24 hours.

      • Yep you're right.. my bad :)

      • yes correct

      • Oh damn, another pedant beat me to the maths ;)
        LOL

  • +9

R we going to see Oprah there? aha

  • Thanks MLN, even tho` your store reps in peel st like crap but your boxing day offer is ridiculous bargain

  • -1

The prices don't seem that great. Just looked up the two asus laptops on staticeice and they are not even much cheaper.

    • +1

The external HDD's price is great tho, and they can't have the lowest price for every single item :D

    • +1

This is how business works. You'll have some keenly priced items to attract custom and create the sale hype, and businesses will do this in the hope you purchase other items while you're there.

A savvy customer will always be able to see through this, and for the customers who don't, I say good luck to the businesses…….

      • McLaren Mercedes
yes I agree with you, this is how most businesses do work

        I beleive we are different.

  • MLN will you take a pre-approved flexirent customer?

    • +2

Sorry some stores no longer offer this, and it will take too long on this day to process flexirent orders.

We do not charge for Visa and mastercard,
if you work it out, its actually cheaper to pay on Visa/mastercard, get charged the interest and pay in minimum payments over 2-3 years
      all the benefits still apply,
interest is tax deductable, the bottom line is much better

      You can purchase extended warranty
you can take out insurance on your home or business policy on your notebook.

We do not see a benefit to the end user to push this product onto our customers.

  • Anyone know if on Boxing day we can price match with OWorks and HNorman?

    • +4

      Yes they should do it,
they should price match all of our current offers

    • +4

Most (except a few) of the Officeworks will close on boxing day … I've just tried to do advanced price match but its a no go….

      • +4

Hats off to you for even trying. That's the OZB spirit! LOL

        • Just about every officeworks in VIC is opened boxing day. Can't find the 640GB seagate or 500GB iomega on their website though. Infact, maybe I'm doing something wrong, I can't find the samsungs on the OW site either.

      • -> bajaiman

thanks for letting us know :)

The Store Stock Indicator WAS GREEN and well is it not the most dodgiest and illegal bait and switch selling, where they offer an item at a great price then change the offer cause oh we ran out of stock….

MLN is not a business you should deal with and you should stay far away from them.. The dont take their customers seriously and dont care… The cheque will be here by Thursday and then money bu at least 2nd —> 5th Jan… Thats 3 weeks worth of interest on the purchase and yet i have nothing…

So they may have dropped the ball on your order, which must suck and I'm sure others would agree. But MLN has provided very consistently good service to myself and countless others over the past few years, not to mention their great pricing and specials they offer. Its quite unfair to tarnish their rep just because of one incident.

Things get out of stock all the time. Inventory in ANY business is never perfect.

We do not gain from selling to customers and not providing them with stock,
clearly, no customer is gained rather as with this case we lose customers, and it is a very stupid way to bait customers into buying from us, if this was a tactic, if your only going to give a refund and upset the customer anyway.
As always, some things sell out faster than we can anticipate.
I have explained this numerous times, as well as in this post.
If you choose to not read this, I'm sorry there is nothing I can do to avoid this.
some products will sell out, there is nothing we can do about it,
yes and sometimes you will pay for something that has over sold.
I am not aware of any business that can stop this.
We had over 300 of the dv6 3032's at the time.

      • Easy…. if you have 200 in stock… then have your website say their are 200 in stock so that when the last one gets sold then there is no more… not hard to integrate the POS into the website or have two seperate databases which get updated when stock is sold…. This solution is very easy to implement.. as well as ensuring you have stock before sending out the HOW to pay email!!??

          Thank you for your advice,
I am sure the tech team have thought of this as well,
obviously its a lot more complex than that.
When your website has over a thousand people on it, it no longer sits next to your ERP and POS, therfore the updating process is not that simple.
Plus how do you stop people from ordering?
It is not possible to stop this from happening, it is a reality of life that some stock just sells out sometimes.
It comes down to who paid for what at what time, and it can even come down the millisecond in some cases.
Refreshing a website takes longer than that, it will never be exact.
The how to pay email is automated and sent at the same time the order is place, the validation and stock check is done at this time.
If you pay for your order after even 5 minutes, to stock available changes, this is the period we cannot account for.
While I understand your frustration, I have explained above in numerous posts, what we are doing about this and how we intend on adressing it next year.

This will always be a reality, we just need to minimise it.
We will always give you your money back if your product sells out, or offer you something close or a gift or something, worse case you get a 100% refund. If you genuinely belive we are benefiting from holding onto your $1000 for a 3 week period to acrue interest to the amount of $2 in total, its a very bad way of making $2, its more like committing suicide for $2.
I have not checked any of these claims, just answering them based on the information provided here.

          Guys
less than 1% of customers miss out on our web deals, most people get what they pay for or we would not be in business.

Your not going to hear from every single one of our customers saying, yes I paid and got it.
          People dont report the norm

If this is the worst experience that you ever had with online shopping, then you are extremely lucky.

Even Amazon stuffs up on their inventory, I ordered an item that was in stock, but it was an error, so the order was cancelled.

Hell, have you try to buy stuff from Dell or Vodafone online, when everything is going, its perfect. But in a situation such as this, you will be lucky to get a human to respond at all.

This is because there is no 100% way, there will always be a delay between payment and availablity as its an unknown variable, no e-commerc site on earth will stop this from happening.
I know its frustrating, we hate it more than you guys, I am sorry about this, I wish there was a real way to stop it from happening.
All you can do is, pay as fast as you order,
most times its ok though guys, as in 99% of the time everything is fine and it all goes well.
