I think it's a good price for IN2023 model with B28 for Telstra

    • +2

More than $200 more for band 28? Not worth it in my opinion unless you actually need it.

      • +1

This is the 12/256gb model. Not sure you are going to find the IN2020 12/256 for less than $1,100. So for $100 i'd say its worth it.

        • Okay so roughly $140 difference then. Still not worth it for me but that's because I don't need band 28.

    • Phwoah not a bad price. Just a heads up they won't ship from Aus, it will come from Hong Kong despite what they say.

    • Can somebody tell me what the difference between the IN and global versions are?

      • +1

        IN2020 no band 28, IN2023 has band 28.

    • Just a heads up for anyone looking at the glacial green model, its a lot more 'blue' than it looks.

Still really nice, I love it but be warned.

    • Just be warned that Oneplus has notoriously not supporting VoLTE/VoWiFi out of the box here in Australia. You have to do a lot of workaround to get it working.

    • Their website buybuybox is always cheaper than their ebay stores if you plan ahead on buying plus they ship anywhere in Australia

Warning - the sony store selling through ebay tried to rip me off for a thousand dollars. Wasted a lot of my time fighting to get my money back after shipping me a defective product.

I bought a refurb as I'd heard they are usually open box - but the TV that was sent was obviously broken .. plug it in, and within minutes the screen has all static on it. Oh and the screws were missing from the box too. So they had obviously not done a test of the returned product.

So I returned it .. quite a hassle really, their process just seems designed to add friction and waste the customers time.

After returning it (long process), they confirmed they would send me the refund .. and never sent it but closed the ebay ticket anyway. So after the long returns process I had to go through weeks more of fighting them to get my actual refund.

All in all Sony official store just seemed scummy and bad to deal with, so I'm happy to write a long message warning other OzBargainers to avoid that crap.

if don't need thunderbolt , go with asus pn50

      • any good deals right now?

        • I doubt it for a while- they're new and hot. ryzen 4000 is straight up insane value right now compared to the intel 10th gen nucs.

    • Surprisingly powerful i5 CPU upon checking it’s score on UserBenchmark. Great price too

    • What's the practical usage of this device? Other than the "its a nice small form factor", I couldn't care less about that.

(I've got a desktop PC in the study, and nvidia shield in the lounge).

      • better price to performance and more energy efficient

      • I've seen these in a few office workspaces, mounts to VESA monitor.

      • Decent Plex server thanks to Quicksync (obviously you'd need something else for storage though)

      • I just use it as a HTPC. It's OK.

      • Low power always on file and print server.

      • It doesn't cheap out on using inferior ports:

        • All USB ports are USB 3.1/3.2 gen 2 ports, not gen 1 ports.
        • 1 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port.
        • HDMI and TB3 Alt mode display are both 4K/60Hz capable. Majority of Intel based desktop motherboards with integrated graphics lacks that.
        • The WiFi/BT5 included is decent enough.
        • It's a 4C/8T CPU so it does have multi-threading support.

Some usages: hackintosh, anything that needs TB3 or USB-C/Alt-mode.

While I use desktop PC mostly, my family members tend to use mini PCs like NUCs. They don't need to use 200W+ PCs to do general Web browsing, watch youTubes and word processing. These mini PCs are very quiet too.

However, the H model is probably more useful.

    • Glad I spotted this before it moved to forums, I ended up grabbing one! Was sure there was 10+ when I made my purchase but guess not.

    • Now Out of Stock

      • And price jacked to $853!

My mother in law has a set and honestly they are not great. They LOOK specatular like a freekin samuari knife, but they are constantly blunting and need sharpening.

Also, I use her set every christmas and other big events as I do a fair bit of the cooking, and they are just uncomnfortable to hold for extended perionds of time. The handles just suck, are too narrow, and get super slippery as well if your hand works up a mild bit of sweat in the kitchen.

Avoid IMO. They go on sale regularly and are cheap for a reason :)

      • Global tend to be a entery level chef grade knife. They are not the hardest steel out there but they are very easy to maintain. personally i have had a set that is still in use in my kitchen for about 13 years now. Every few months just a quick once over with a whet stone and a couple times a week before using it a few passes with a steel and they stay very sharp. Quality wise they are not at shun level but i have never had a issue with any of mine so long as you treat them as intended you will more than likely never face a issue.

    • Chefs do not use Global Knives despite what Masterchef may lead you to believe.

Marketing at it's best - everyone knows that "Global knives are the best" right?

And let's be realistic, do you think anyone actually buys them at RRP? It is periodically discounted at every retailer…..

I'm not saying they are crap, just saying they are not as good as what people believe….

      Thank you.

I'm currently "Ubiquiti-Curious" and this might be enough to get me to buy into the platform.

      • Read up on the forums before you commit, I was a long time "Ubiquity Fan" before I bought a UDM, now I'm in danger of becoming a "Ubiquity Hater".

        • What don’t you like, see my comment below.

        • Thanks for chiming-in BEFORE I pull the trigger. 😃

I will double-down on the research.

Our current home setup - a combo of DLink DSL-4320L and Netgear repeater hardware - is simply not coping with the demands of two people WFH (thrashing video conferencing) and providing stable wireless connections thoughout an old house with thicc-boi sandstone walls.

I thought the UniFi platform might be a means to saturate coverage and get more stable VPN connections under high demand. Back to research phase.

          • @[Deactivated]: Unifi wifi would be perfect, although there are a bunch of possibilities available now and they've been very slow adding wifi 6. I'd stay away from their routers.

@OZB Al: Thanks. I'm a big advocate of lived experience versus spec sheets and marketing videos.

    • Thanks OP, I was looking at one the other day to replace my USG3 and cloud controller. I’ll miss the offline alerts for multiple sites but I’m hoping it will be worth it saving the hosting costs + adding NVR capabilities.

      • +1

If you do anything on the USG that requires editing the yaml configuration that isn't an option on the UDM.

UDM is completely dumbed down, your only options for things like IPS and IDS are on or off.

You will need to run alpha and beta software on them to make them reliable (new UDMP firmware released today may resolve some issues) and even then the controller is locking up for me every few days.

No VPN client, only VPN server.

It can't do simple things that a $50 router can do, like custom DNS entries.

Seriously check the Ubiquity forums, there are a load of issues with them. Great hardware though.

        • Have you tried pfsense?

          • @raybies: Just installed it on an old NUC for testing, if all goes well I'll replace the UDM with pfsense and a Unifi controller container.

            • +1

              @OZB Al: WAN > pfSense > 1 x Switch/AP > 2 x AP > Clients wired/wireless

pfSense does DHCP, FW, VPN (3 clients), Ad blocking

pfSense works well but I get DNS latency when I also use it as a DNS server even though it has pass throught to CloudFlare, so I have to regularly refresh browser windows when they displayed site x took too long to load… and I haven't figured out how to get this working perfectly.

Also even though perf metrics look fine (<50%) with 3 VPN clients connected I get poor WAN performance across the board even for clients not going through a VPN.

Best experience I've had was with a D7000 + Merlin + https://diversion.ch/ and it was the simplest.

        • Well there I was about to finally pull the trigger on getting into Ubiquity and read this, super surprised it's so limited. I'm currently using pfsense on an old Mac mini. I highly recommend it very very versatile. But I will warn you it takes a bit to setup but has features for days everything you'll ever need. Check out Laurence Systems on YouTube has some great tutorials. Looks like I'll be sticking to pfsense for now.
