      translation anyone?

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards, ANZ Rewards Platinum or ANZ Rewards Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

      • ^the above needs to be highlighted in RED on the OP ELIGIBILITY!

Or people should read the terms and conditions of a financial agreement try are signing up for.

        • sorry did it quickly so might have missed some key elements

        • +2

@Gooddeal21: It's a great deal as I have had it before but this is the MOST important Eligibility for any established Ozbargain member

        • @PLANT: yep same same :)

        • +3

@Gooddeal21: These are the T&C for the Rewards card, not the Qantas card

        • -1

          @ExtremeDavo:

What, the 50 pages that are sent each time you enter into such agreement? Sure, if it's for something significant like a car loan or mortgage. I just wish there was a service where any financial agreement has a special code. Then a 3rd party service, for a trivial fee let me enter that code and it shows me any important aspects to consider clearly - without having to navigate through legal and financial jargon.

Missed those days when people can open and close this card for up to 10x in a year. That's 750k points free in a year!

    • I had rewards travel adventures (platinum) and applied for a non-qantas standard ANZ black during a prior promotion before reading T&C. I got my annual fee waived and after spending the $2000 or so, I got my free 80,000 ANZ reward points too.

      • Great to know, thanks for sharing.

  • Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months

Should still be eligible for the promo if you have a non-FF ANZ card, like Travel Rewards.

      • +2

yes , just asked on the live chat
        You at 12:11, Nov 28:
are we eligible if we currently hold another ANZ credit card but non FF like a travel reward card ?

As long as you havent held a frequent flyer card in last 12 months yes :) and that you meet the other minimum income/visa eligibility

  • I have this card, it's worth it if you cancel after the first year is up. Otherwise there's an annual fee of $400~ Best features are the Qantas FF points, travel insurance and extended purchase warranty.

    • +15

IMO, it's worth it if you cancel as soon as your bonus points post, so you can rinse and repeat 12 months later.

      • Good point!

      • +1

Good point. Not worth keeping it now that there is no amex card attached.

  • minimum annual income of $75,000

Anyone know how stringent are they with this? And if they are, would it affect my credit rating if I were denied because of it?

    • +2

will ask you to provide employment details and recent payslips

      • Thanks - I read that above after posting. I guess I'll just go with this one instead.

        • +1

Yeap the one you listed is a lot better given the 10k Qantas points isn't worth the minimum annual income of 75k and the stringent check.

        • @nightelves: Yeah the risk is not worth the 10k points, and I probably wouldn't book/take flights by May anyway to get the status credits. Thanks!

    • +4

Best to assume they will be stringent with this requirement and yes it will show up on your credit history regardless of whether it is accepted or rejected.

      • Cheers.

    • +1

You have to send through 2 most recent payslips.

    • +1

Quite stringent unless system auto approves it, can escape detailed verification then. Minimum credit limit is $15,000. So the credit bureau score, income & expenses should add up enough for such a large limit to be approved at the onset. Credit entry remains for 5 years regardless of the application outcome.

    • +2

Sometimes if they decide you don't qualify as you have insufficient income they will approve you a lessor card with no sign on bonus. That is undesirable. SAnd, on the credit file it looks like you got it whether you take it or not.

    • +1

Applied for a similar card with same minimum requirement from ANZ. They ran a credit check and then denied because my income was under the minimum. Not worth trying IMHO.

    • They are strict. I know someone who got denied and they don't even tell you. You have to call them to all them what's taking them so long.

  • I got this card in the last promo (about 6 weeks ago). My bonus points just posted overnight and I'll keep this card until it comes up for renewal.

Also, I was advised by my branch (Bourke St Mall) that you can potentially get a 'better'** deal by asking in-branch rather than online - so no harm in asking if you're prepared to invest a few mins in a lunch break with your local ANZ branch.

** who knows what 'better' means :-)

    • +1

Yep, we got the platinum deal(when it was 50k) and points posted overnight as well….bulk point postings I reckon. The platinum deal for 65k bonus points is great if you don’t meet the 75k income requirement for the Black.

    • Don’t waste your time with the staff at any ANZ branch, they don’t offer anything better than the online team does and the retention team.

  • Sorry for the off-topic comment here, but I've built up quite a few Q points now through various promotions including this one. I was thinking of travelling to Europe with the help of these and use them to either get the flight or upgrade my class to business.

Can anyone comment on the process or if there are more effective ways to use the points?
If buying the economy, what ways are there to help ensure a business class upgrade is actually available before committing to the flight?
How much is a business class upgrade to Europe anyway?

    Cheers

    • +1

It depends how many Qantas points you have. If you have 280k then it's worth looking into RTW with Oneworld a much better option than straight biz class to Europe.

      • +3

If you don't have at least Gold status then forget about upgrades. Booking individual legs on business (or a RTW) is the only guarantee.

        • Only measly bronze. So no upgrades. Then only option is to use points to gain a free flight in economy?

        • +1

@OldBugger: Either use it for classic reward economeny or business. Often the best 'value' is round the world on a oneworld carrier.

Also even gold doesn't guarentee you an upgrade, I've been gold or above for 5+ years, would say about 25% of my upgrade requests (mixture of econ (flex) > bus and bus > 1st) have been successful.

        • This is exactly why I haven't chased QFF points. I just don't fly enough to have any status, and now QFF points are so diluted (due to it being so easy to collect them), so every man and his dog has a QFF balance.
I've been saving Ascent points to eventually transfer to KF and redeem a RTW in F, I've heard that SQ doesn't care about status when you're booking award flights with them, I really hope this is the case when it comes time to redeem them. Would hate to have a big points balance (1mil+) and not be able to redeem due to having lowly nothing status.

        • @OldBugger:

Free economy flights aren't the best use of points but you can get good value by avoiding Qantas and British Airways who both charge high fuel surcharges. Cathay via Hong Kong isn't a bad option.

        • @Hellfire: you mean avoiding qantas and not using my points and buying a ticket outright with Cathay?

        • @OldBugger: you can book partner airlines by using your Qff points

        • @Hellfire: got it, thanks.

So just checked, through Qantas site it's 233k BC points to Madrid. 110k EC points.

$550 in fees though. I see what they mean about it not being worthwhile.

          Maybe spend points elsewhere?

      • Only 175k. No go then? Not too familiar with RTW - what if I just want to go one destination and back?

    • +1

If you have no status with QF it could be hard to get an upgrade. Best to search for a flight the max number of days before your chosen date.

      • Spot on. Status stops people from redeeming QFF flights, which is a business decision by QF I guess, and makes it not worth it for a lot of people to build up points. No wonder I see so many Classifieds sales for QFF points, people just can't redeem them.

    • There's an awesome 50% off classic rewards deal in ATM. You'd better be quick

  • +2

Went to apply. Self employed accountant and they didn't like that one bit. Wouldn't even put me through to someone who understood how I got paid. Seems they only want vanilla folk :(

Great Offer, Been looking for it. Now all I need to find is a job that pays 75k a year….

    • This offer is better if you don't meet the income requirement.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/339210

      • Hmmmm but a job with 75k is much better…i m stuck at 45k from past 5 years now

        • Not worth the headache for the 10k. I went through it and the minimum balance of 15k heavily affects your future cc applications.

        • you should create a forum thread about it

        • @Jason Genova: About?? the job?

        • Buy some high yielding investments. Like an expensive car.

        • +1

@vetopower: Great Advice, Not sure how will that help a graphic designer. lol. but will look into car sales tonite and find a job in bank.

        • @letmesingh: job in bank Westpac.

        • @MathNerd: Damn!! though I did apply for a job in Westpac. but I will never get it since it was a normal bank job and I m a graphic designer. I m a maniac on viagra. applying everything that comes my way… too desperate now

        • +4

@letmesingh: I would go into UX by doing some online study for a year, then develop a portfolio over another 2 years of working and then go work for a bank and help them develop their phone apps or analytics dashboards.

Make close to 100k or more depending on how good you can convince them in the interview. Your current experience can supplement the UX stuff.

The leap between graphic design and UX shouldn’t be too far, and should overlap with your interests.

I’m serious about this advice by the way. Lots of UX people are sought after, and their portfolio. And HR doesn’t really know how to sort out the good from bad in my experience.

        • @pizzaofpeace: Great Advice bro, I will look into UX/UI Design today. I did web design back in India for 4-5 years. I was really good at it. but my skills are kinda going downhill at my current job since there isnt much work to do.

p.s. you got any suggestions for online courses. (does Lynda & Udemy count?)

          Thanks

        • @letmesingh: yeah, also look at edx, or coursera if you’re willing to pay money.

Like I said, developing a portfolio is most important, as no one in HR recognises any uni or school as being the standard for UX learning.

Also, lots of charities or organisations look for help in developing websites and apps as well, believe it or not.

And I’m sure you can find a few competitions.

If you want to make stupidly big amounts of money, Silicon Valley is flush with money. They’re always hiring for contracts, and entrepreneurs spend big on projects that often don’t pan out.

  • Does this give you domestic rental car insurance? Tried check on their website it's bit confusing. Has anyone claimed a car insurance through credit card or I should just stick with covermytrip.
Is this one or any other card any good that covers you for $4000-$5000

    • Yes it does.5k. $350 excess off memory. Also normal travel insurance activated with $250 spend prior travel. But must travel via boat, plane train. Ie. Did a road trip to the snow. Last minute gastro. Couldn't claim the accom, hire car etc as we were driving. Don't need to book transport with card though, only $250 on whatever. Hotel etc

  • Be careful with your expenses. I got rejected after (i think) erroneously putting an extra 1K onto my monthly living expenses. I've had this card with them before and have never had a problem obtaining black level cards anywhere else (very good credit score also). Now churning through Macquarie black and will do Qantas Mastercard after that.

    • Which macquarie card?

      • Macquarie black

      • Any fee waivers etc for share holders?

    • Don’t you think you got blacklisted because of churning their card?

      • I don't think so, if that was the case i expect it would have been a straight reject.

They rang to confirm monthly spends e.t.c. after which i realised i'd overcooked my monthly spending number which i think caused the rejection.

I had the card for 12 months last time so i didn't just get the bonus points and cancel that time.

    • I think I had the same thing today!

I make well clear of the annual salary requirement, own my own home, no mortgage, no personal loans, pay off credit card in full each month. I also had an anz black cardin the past, more than 12 months back.

Was then a bit puzzled when they guy on the phone said I was rejected and they said they will send the reason out in the mail.

Only thing I can think of is that I over cooked my monthly expenses a bit as I was just making up a number. Either that or they probably know I’m just after the points and won’t be making a dime off me. :)

      • How much did you put….
I too make it up….But at about $1200_$1500 monthly spend

  • Is there an equivalent AMEX card which gives these benefits?

  • +1

Can't someone else do first year free with bonus points yet?
Been off my ANZ Black for a few months now but so far the only competitors are "reduced annual fee" ones :(

  • Isnt NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Visa a better deal?

    • no

that one has a $395 fee

      • Not if you have a home loan with them…

    • I found NAB cards easier to get.
ANZ reject you more easily if you do a lot of credit-card-slutting for points.

      • credit-card-slutting..

        Don't slut shame me! lol

  • -1

If you get this, and then get, say, a fully refundable J fare from QF, get the bonus points, and then refund the flight, will they take away the bonus points?
As I'm not keen on running up a $2500 bill on buying useless things just to get the points.

    • +4

If you earn 75k plus income a year, how on earth can you not spend $2500 on needed things over a three month period?

      • I'm actually slightly under the 75k income requirement. I was just posing the question as a hypothetical.
I can certainly spend $2500 on needed things, but I'd rather spend that on the AmEx to get Ascent points, building up towards getting an F redemption. Diverting $2500 of spend to another card means it'll take longer to grow the AmEx points balance.
I know there's people that get this card, get the 75k points, sell it for $750, then cancel, then start the waiting period for the following year. Nice way to make a bit of money off a no annual fee card.

        • one of the up side of Childcare, $2500 in 3 months …too easy

        • @Gooddeal21:

Wow you must be racking in the points. Do they do split payments?

        • @nightelves: I wonder what type of points these are.

        • @nightelves: we can change the cc when we want. they don't take amex though. so only using the citibank signature which is not great in points values 2 citibank rewards points = 1 velocity but better than none

        • @Gooddeal21: Do they take PayPal? Or is it only physical payments at a terminal?

        • I don’t see your logic. Spend $2500 on Amex and get maximum of 7500 Ascent points OR get 77500 QFF points spending $2500 on ANZ VIsa where AMEX is not accepted? The only way to significantly maximise FF points is to flip credit cards…..not for everyone but it’s the only way.

        • @Coops1: I agree with you. I would sign up for this card just to get the points in order to sell them, as I'll never be able to redeem QF flights with having no status whatsoever.
Unfortunately there's no way to flip credit cards to build a KF balance like there is with QF cards, so all I've got is burning spending to get those precious KF points.
If I collected QF points for redemptions I'd jump on this in a heartbeat.

        • @MathNerd:
Sure, see your point on usage, and ascent is definitely valuable.

I would never sell the points. Qantas is pretty reasonable value for classic domestic flights, and just spent 13440 points + $52 HBA-SYD JQ return. Points value was close to 2cents compared with buying the same flight which is a reasonable return on value.

        • @Coops1: Awesome :)
Do you have any status whatsoever with QF? From what I've read (on OzB, flyertalk, AFF, etc), it's pretty much impossible to do any award redemptions on QF just because they are so stingy handing out award seats to people that never fly with them.

        • @MathNerd:

Qantas Club bronze and These flights were booked on partners account who is bronze only. Note economy only.

Domestic economy has heaps of availability 2 weeks in advance for both QF and VA, but generally not in peak holiday times or heavily booked weekend getaway flights etc.

I don’t fly business domestically, unless MEL-PER which is still relatively easy to do on rewards if your flexible

        • @MathNerd: terminal or direct debit

        • @Coops1: my logic ?

        • @Gooddeal21:
Sorry, didn’t auto quote reply. Replying to MathNerd I was
