It's basically a repeat of this deal but with a ~$800 phone included as well (on 24 months instead of 12 month term).

Compared to this $49/month JB BYO deal, you are paying an extra $240 over the 24 months and giving up $200 JB gift card & 5GB of data; however you are getting a $600-$900ish phone included instead.

If you value the Galaxy S8 at $800 (I think the cheapest deal we saw was $799 for Bing Lee) then you are paying $640 over 24 months for the 15GB contract = $26.66/month which seems like a great deal on the Telstra network and also no upfront cost required. That's probably the best value there since the Pixel XL and iPhone 6s are older models but they are options for Apple users or someone not wanting to go down the Samsung path.

  • I just tried to get $40 monthly discount and got referred to a dedicated team to call by phone (1800676642 between 8AM to 9PM AEST business hours ) to see if discount code be applied. My parents currently have Telstra cable and trying to leverage that to get $10 off monthly cost.

    So here is my case:

    12am i chat with 3 guys until 1 guy told me that they can still do 10$ credit and 5gb bonus. Just need to go into any telstra store and ask. Easy.

    I was never so wrong in my life.

    3pm, got into store, the guy in-store said he can't do it anymore. Told me just to go forward with the contract then go again to live chat and ask the live chat people to fix it.

    3:30pm, live chat with 3 people, none can do anything about it because the order is already placed. They can't change it. Told me to call the Help Desk to solve it.

    4pm, called Help Desk, they can't do it too because the order is placed.

    So,

    Live-chat told In-Store can do it

    In-Store said only Live-Chat can do it

    Live-Chat again told only Help-Desk can do it

    Help-Desk can't.

    At least i got the phone and the voucher. Still okay though

        yeah chat told me instore could do it (which i knew wasn't right). They couldn't. I still signed up in store and got the phone. Got home and I went back on the chat and they directed me to call 1800354192. Have your chat transcripts handy as proof. They'll transfer you to sales/billing. Sales will try upsell. If they try upsell rather than fix, try again with someone else.

      Try calling them. Similar thing happened to me and so I called them instead and basically mentioned that I was supposed to get $10 off applied to my plan plus the 5gb bonus as per live chat, could they apply it over the phone. After being put on hold they sorted it out no problem.

  • How long did it take for everyone’s bonus 5GB to be added? My plan activated today and I’m back to 15GB. Spoke to live chat and they said the bonus 5GB is noted on my account but they’ve been busy with orders so it hasn’t been activated yet by the appropriate team..

        I ended up speaking to someone from the billing team on live chat after a couple of days. He said there was no extra 5gb added to my account but he had a look through my previous conversations and could see that I was promised it so he added it.

  • Extra 5GB was easy to get. I spoke to at least 8 different people and none wanted to play ball with the $10 discount, so I've resigned trying to get it.

    Gonna sell the S8 once I get it and buy a Pixel 2 XL! :D

    • I mentioned to chat agent that a friend of mine got "Go Mobile Plus Additional Service $10 Credit"…

      He replied
      All the agent who provisioned that kind of offer receives corrective actions. since that kind of deal is invalid. and once the system detect it. the invalid offer will automatically remove on the plan. so basically your friend will only get the regular plan price and inclusion.

      • The agent I spoke to at the time was so adamant on not giving me the $10 discount until i asked to have it escalated to her supervisor. I have all the records of both agent and supervisor agreeing to the deal, I even called to confirm. So they should (and hopefully) honour it for the full contract term. Maybe try chatting to another agent and see what they say?

    Currently have the Note 5, conflicted between the Galaxy S8 vs the Pixel XL. Would be tempted with the Pixel XL if I could get the 128GB upgrade, though the newer version is out now. Decisions decisions.

  • I just upgrade my JB HIFI plan to F & F Plan now . I was offered 5G + Shared data. I tried to get the International calling pack but wasn't able to and no luck with 10$ off monthly.

  • Been on chat for 30 mins. They are confused by everything. Three agents. No extra 5GB. Asking me for account numbers and also if I have family or friends that work for Telstra.

    Finally got billing to agree. And then I sent the transcript to my email and it failed and the chat dropped out! Agggghhh!!! No record at all.

  • Just had a chat with Telstra and they confirmed over chat that 10$ discount is applicable for the contract period only if you are port in customer.

    • Does that mean if you purchase the Jbhifi deal then porting to the FF deal you can't get the $10 discount?

      • I think so. If moving from Telstra to Telstra, I think there will be no 10$ discount by default.

      • Online chat again said they can't add 10$ discount on top of F&F offer. I even spoke to the rep's managers and told him about prev rep offered me 10$ discount on S8 plan.. He said we can't honor that and will take action on the rep who promised that 10$ discount!

        Sad that rep has to face a verbal warning!

  • Finally pulled the trigger on this one. After trying for about a week or so to get the bonus 5GB + $10 discount, I spoke to over 5 different agents. At the end of it, I got the $10 discount, but not the 5 GB bonus (not too fussed since I wont use that much). I am still gonna call up to ask if they can apply the 5 GB bonus once I receive my order since it seems like others have had some luck in that regard. I ported in from Vodafone and confirmed like 100 times that I would be receiving the discount. I have screenshots/transcripts in case they double back on their offers. Although I didn't get everything I wanted, persistance does pay off :) Good luck all!

    Phone has died so looking to get on this deal but lots of differing comments being posted. Can someone give me a quick summary of this deal and whether I need to talk to someone via chat to get additional discounts. From what I can see the deal is $59 a month for 2 years for the iPhone 6s. Can I squeeze any other discounts out of Telstra? Are people getting $10 discount so end up paying $49 a month? Do I need to tell them I have a friend that works there? iPhone is on backorder? Roughly how long are people waiting before they get their phones?

    I cannot see a better deal out there for the iPhone so will signup to this

    • Few Lucky people have got the 10$ discount, but you can 5gb added to this plan when you on live chat. No need to tell anything, click on link and you can proceed ordering online.

      If your work place has cashback offers for Telstra order via that so you can get cashback on it.

      This deal is 59$ per month for 15gb.. can get over rated iPhone or usual Androids.

        Completely agree. Note that the iPhone 6S was released in Sep 2015, so its already 2 1/4 years old. Even with new phone feeling, it'll be over 3 years old and you'll still be paying $59 a month for this. By comparison the S8 was released April 2017.

        If you choose to go with Apple, know how old the phone is before you lock yourself into a contract.

  • Upon receiving my Nexus 6p replacement (sent it back for warranty and got a Huawei P10) last Friday, I decided to cancel my order for the S8. Was originally going to sell the S8 and the P10 and use it to in conjunction with the $200 JB gift card to fund either a Pixel 2 XL or the HTC U11. Couldn't justify the Pixel 2 XL's price, and the U11 is completely sold out, so decided to stick with the P10 until at least next year or I can find a cheap U11 somewhere.

    Luckily the JB gift card doesn't have an expiry date and I'm paying $49 only.

        • then that person should know better. It says at the back of my card, 2 yrs. It's your own risk :) as I used my 3 yrs old Itunes card without any problem (same 2 yrs expiry policy)

        Nope, I was told by the manager of the store that I got my $200 gift card from that there’s no longer an expiry date on JB gift cards. I also received a $50 gift card for my birthday and they scribbled out the expiry date.

  • I got the $10 discount this morning which was awesome as the deal for $59 is really good as is.

    It is definately only for new port in's though I was able to get mine cos I came in through OVO mobile on a prepaid number.

    I couldnt get the 5GB bonus without going on a special tablet plan

    I was in the market for an upgrade, Telstra standard offer for a Samsung Galaxy S8 (or iPhone 8) is $109/month for 20gb.

    This deal pops up offering you an iPhone 6s (which I have) or same Samsung Galaxy S8 for $59/month for 15gb. I'm still trying to find the catch…

    Interesting how the offer is buried away on the website, Christmas deals - "For Him"… could be a headline offer to win business ?

    Been a lifetime iPhone user and this deal alone was enough to shift me to the dark side (Galaxy S8 delivered today)

        I just found the deal on the website and made the purchase. No questions. Nothing. Phone was with the courier within hours and has been delivered to me today (less than 48 hours)

          I thought there was an "Employee Verification" section in the application form, where you needed to put in a staff number. But it seems I read it wrong - it's an "employment verification" - presumably it's their check to confirm you have an income.

    • I initially heard this offer on 15th Nov when talking to a consultant and couldn't believe. Few days later it popped up on their website, so jumped on it. A no brainer who wants the S8 with Telstra network for this price.

  • Has anyone who recently signed up got a 5gb service as a new contract. I tried asking live chat, and they said I am unable to unless I have two or more active postpaid services.

    I'm thinking of signing up for this deal but don't know if it is still worth it if its 15gb, since I'm currently paying $40(with optus) for the same amount of data

    • You don't get a phone with the optus one though. Definitely still worth. Get better coverage, faster speeds (for me anyway) and a recent flagship. Can't see a downside. Don't need a phone? Sell it and the plan becomes even cheaper.

  • Signed up last Friday at jbhifi then upgrade to f&f, the agent is very helpful at first. Got the $10 credit and 5gb on 2numbers.
    Then the nightmare started. She told me the s8 will arrive in 2-3 days. Today is already 3days. So I we bchat again. Can’t find the same lady from last Friday ,as transcripts not received. Spent another 1and half to tell the story.
    In the end my order is still in pending… and I am still on jbhifi’s plan :(.
    Got some problem in the f&f plan. Need to cancel and sign up again.

    • Happened to me two weeks ago, received both the phones and later one by one got emails saying orders cancelled.

      So ended up raising a complaint after speaking to 10 people and on tuesday the case manager put two new orders over the phone and i just gave them the imei numbers for the s8's because i already startes using the phones with the old sim.

      Its been a nightmare dealing with telstra for the past two weeks.

        Manager pass me to one of the guy.
        Then that guy Cancel my online order without tell me and made a new order with out the credit.

  • So I signed up online without any issues. I needed to go into a telstra store to verify my employment. Guy I spoke to had no idea on the plan. I gave them my reference number but he couldnt help at all. Any ideas how I can get around this? Do I need to mention the Telstra staff name as it is a friends and family deal?

    Email with tracking number at 8:25PM
    Phone arrived today at 12:30PM
    Put current telstra sim in and good to go.

    Slowest part was going to Westfield and buying a new wallet case for it.

    "Sorry but the $59 Xmas offer is ineligible to other credits or discounts. As for the eligibility requirement of the bonus 5GB data, you should have an existing postpaid service with us prior to this order or, you are doing another order the same time that you are placing the order for the Xmas offer."

    I told them of reports online about people getting the deal and they replied

    "Sorry and I hope you will not take this against me but those reports are false and we are investigating on it and removing discounts if found that the account does not meet the requirements."

    Update: So they will add the 5GB because I have other services, but not the $10 discount.

    The live chat rep is actually being quite rude, saying that the price is already good, so no more discounts. Basically said I was ungrateful asking for a discount on an already heavily discounted price lol

      I've tried a few times with live chat, every one of the reps have been happy to offer the 5GB bonus (I have no other services with Telstra), but all have advised they can't apply the $10 discount (various reasons, from it's already discounted so they can't apply further discount, to they can't as it's against company policy).

      Will be off to JB Hifi tomorrow to score the $200 gift card on the $49 BYO plan and then will sign up for the $59 F & F deal with the bonus 5GB on Tuesday.

      Nowhere near as good as what people were managing to get when this deal was first posted, but it's still better than what's on offer from other telco's at this time.

    Thanks OP great deal. Signed up no issues. Didn't get the extra 5GB during checkout but went back later on chat and asked why it wasn't applied. 5 mins later I got it.
