    • 7% cash back through cashrewards?
    • +2

      Yes I believe so.

      • that would be another ~$60 off, at ~$770 that is ridiculous good value…soo many deals sooo many laptops

        • +7

Just added this deal & coupon to CR, so yes cashback applies :)

        • @tightarse: Is cashreward capped at $50? Thanks

        • +4

@dsq: Not for Lenovo. The only CR caps are for eBay ($50) and Blue Nile (% of first $7500 spend).

        • @tightarse: Thanks. I should have looked for you and asked same question few days back when camerahouse was on sale. By the way, is Chat function on Cashreward page working?

The wait for a decent Yoga 720 deal is killing me. Should have jumped on the JB offer last month.

    • Grab it from the US, that's what I did. Can get it for about $1050 delivered via frieght forwarding.

      • Got a link? Or just Lenovo direct?

        • +1

          amazon, or bestbuy

        • @thord: Thank you - 15% off at JB so I decided to go with the local warranty option.

  • Backlit keyboard?

    • have an e470, nope.

    • Nope

  • Any idea on how long this offer may be available? Thinking of making a purchase later tonight, and I don't know whether people jump at offers such as these and buy them out.

    • +2

      OP suggests 11:59pm Sunday.

      • Last time they had the same expiry time and it all sold out about 2pm Sat IIRC.

  • Reckon the 14" model will get the newer gen GPUs soon? Like a 1050?

  • Wow, just noticed the weight of this….description says 1.87kg's. I have the E450, with i7 etc, and it weighs a little less at 1.81kg. Is that normal, for newer models to be heavier? No complaints about the laptop though, I love it, not one problem with it after 1.5 years.

    • I should say it's normal. Different parts have slightly different weights to them. It's like saying a new version of a Desktop PC weighs slightly different than a previous model, is that normal?.

    • 60grams extra weight is hardly going to break your shoulder…

      • Yeah absolutely, obviously that is true. It was just an observation. Many people are after lightweight laptops these days, and most of them ARE getting lighter. This one is two years newer, yet it is heavier. I just thought it was worth pointing out. But maybe they have improved the build quality too. It was just a passing observation, not an attack! I love my Lenovo! Would buy this model in a heartbeat, even if it is slightly heavier, if I needed it. :)

  • Anyone know how long they take to deliver?

    • Just ordered one :-) 6 to 9 business days to ship is the claim.

  • +1

Might be worth mention too that the list price of the laptop is $1499. Applying the code chops the price down to $835. Also Cash Rewards toolbar is saying the current cash back is 8.8%.

    • Usually those cashback reward programs have a fine print that applying a discount code not advertised them them through the merchant disqualifies the cashback through them. So i would be checking into that.

Fortunately it seems that the DEALS470 coupon is advertised by Cashrewards so it should be ok.

      • Tightarse above suggests the cashback still applies: "Just added this deal & coupon to CR, so yes cashback applies :)"

The cash back would be a nice little bonus to have, but even without it I'm more than happy with the deal. I was looking at a comparable laptop for $1100 yesterday.

      • Typo. It's DEAL470, not DEALS470.

    • I'm only seeing it saying current cashback is 7%. Where did you get this 8.8% from?.

      https://www.cashrewards.com.au/lenovo

      • +1

        That expired 11:59pm yesterday.

      • +1

Might be something CR wants to look at. The CR toolbar in my Chrome browser was still stating 8.8% when I made the purchase this morning.

        • +1

Well all i can say is the web site page itself is showing 7%. One is right and one is wrong.

I've gone off Lenovo after a dud e470 and multiple failed service tech calls and a long winded process to get a replacement

    • This is not the first time Im hearing about poor after sales support when seeking a replacement or refund from Lenovo. It makes me hesitate to buy a laptop from them and pay for the additional warranty. Anyone with a good experience from Lenovo when getting a replacement or refund on a laptop?

      • +1

I only have good experience with lenovo's never failing.

  • +2

should I grab 2 and pay with Amex to grab Amex credit?

    • Great question - would love to know if this works.

This is your Cashrewards tracking receipt for your recent purchase at Lenovo.

    Sale value: AUD 759.09

    Expected cashback: AUD 53.14

    Nice

    • I got the earlier deal ( couple days ago) on the E570, no such receipt. Did something go wrong for me, I can see I visited Lenovo site via CR site, but no tracking that they know I ordered, payment has been taken from account. Lenovo site says order placed, has not shipped yet.

  • I purchased one of these during the last deal. I have read a couple of things about Lenovo putting lot's of bloatware on them. Is it worth doing a clean install before using it? If so, what is the easiest way to do this? Thanks!

    • I read this after I ordered the E570, never saw it with my initial review search. The bloatware related to a different set of models, maybe the E570, 470, Thinkpads too but couldnt find anyone stating those particular models definitively had it. But no a clean install wont help as the bloat is supposedly in the BIOS, as was some prevention of installing linux without some somewhat technical fiddling.

The threads I read did say that Lenovo stopped doing it too.

      • so many urban myths …………….
I have the 570, yes you can do a clean install, activate machine as per normal, then download the image from Microsoft and do clean install. The bloat is Lenovo utilities specific to the machine like driver update utilities, etc to make life easier for people.
I did a clean one just because I like generic ……

        • Its LSE, and it also reports data to Lenovo. And when you do a clean install it reinstalls itself unless you update the BIOS to stop it. Lenovo have since stopped doing it so many machines, probably these are not effected. Links below, and a list of Google search results for good measure.

          https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/lenovo-caught-re-ins…

          https://www.google.com.au/search?q=lenovo+bloatware+bios&ie=…

7th link down, dont even need to click to see clean install is problematic with the particular bloatware. This series, as I already said in my initial post, cant find any links to say they are effected.

The other issue re: Linux and some feature being turned off from factory to stop Linux installs, and turning it back on being too involved for average users. The thread is over on Reddit… it can be installed, but you do need to jump through some hoops. Again, not these machines specifically, but Lenovo just the same.

So no its not an urban myth, just not necessarily related to these, or the one mentioned by the question above, the E570. One of those articles says Lenovo stopped doing it in 2015, and offers a patch for machines effected. One of the concerns is the mentality behind a business that employs that practice, 'spyware' that isnt readily removable without informing purchasers.

        • I don't think the E570 was around in 2015 so we need to deal with specific factors, machines, models, and not propagate hearsay or myths or extrapolate……. so if you bought one it wouldn't be effected …….It is one of those machines we SOE in a state gov department, so we re-image, and it's easy to do, no issues in the BIOS as we lock the BIOS down so if stolen or lost people can't image for their own use.

In regards to Linux, yes Microsoft and Intel are doing interesting things in BIOS which makes re-purposing machines challenging across many manufactuers, I haven't tried my E570 as I'm a windows users, but its across many manufacturers and it might have to do with how much they pay for Windows, or security………

The software they load as bloat checks for updated drivers, which aren't always supplied by Microsoft, and a re-image gives you a clean machine.

        • @garage sale: None of that makes it an URBAN MYTH.

  • How could I access this cash reward program? I can't see anything on the checkout page.

    • +2

You'll have to sign up to Cashrewards, and redirect through their Lenovo page to make purchase.

      • Thank you so much :)

  • Does the 3 year NBD warranty also extend the parts warranty or just labour?

    • They told me it does and the policy information seems to agree. Except I think the battery is just 1 year no matter what?

  • +1

Could you add an extra 8gb of ram yourself?

Edit: even if you could the cost would be very small.. Compared to buying and installing yourself. The website is adding $108 if you opt in for the extra 8Gb ram

  • Do any Lenovo's have a USB-C port? I want to be able to hook it up to a 4K monitor @ 60hz. If this one had that, and GPU with GDDR5 memory, I would be all over it like a rash.

    • +2

Most current ThinkPad other than the E-series (this E470 for example) should have USB Type-C port. However they are not on the budget end.

  • +1

So the difference between this and the last e470 deal is that this is $835 and has 8gb ram vs the previous deal of $825 with 16gb ram?

    Any other dif specs?

    • I'm thinking the same! With 16GB RAM it was $825 then $838 and now $835 with only 8GB. The same thing going on with then LG G6

  • This is not same as recent deal - this is 8GB RAM; not 16GB.

$13 more with half the RAM isn't really even remotely comparable.

    • Yes, but that deal is done and this is possibly the best currently on offer. The real world performance difference between 8gb and 16gb ram may be relatively negligible.

      • I agree real world performance may be negligible but the value is still a fair bit. Even if you choose to sell the extra 8GB, it's ~$79 retail - you'd get $40-50 for it easily.

In other words, this is basically ~$53-63 (or ~$92) more than the last deal.

        • Hey, I wish the last deal were repeated too. I was one of those "about to pull the trigger," on it before it sold out early.

But who knows if it'll be matched or bested any time soon? The question is, is this still "good enough" to grab now before it sells out or expires?

Seems like a fair few people on here would say it definitely is. And yet my trigger finger still quivers…

        • +1

@crankycarrot: Probably didn't outline my point properly here - I still believe this is an awesome deal, but I don't like how OP has compared it to the last as if it's only a slight different. The 16GB in the last deal took it from an awesome price to an insane bargain, this one is just a decent price.

Over all, for those who are on the edge I'd still pull the trigger on this deal (if I didn't on the 16GB one) as it's still a great price, but for those who are patient we may one day see the last deal repeated again!

        • @dyl: Fair enough. May that deal speed quickly back onto the forums.

        • aussie dollar is also sliding down so some deals are bound by exchange rate at the time ……

        • +1

          @garage sale:
Isn't the dollar going the other way? lol

        • @dyl:

I'll be waiting for the 16GB deal too. If they could afford to sell it at that price last month they can do it again.

Thanks, I've recommend this laptop to a friend which theirs just died recently.

Is there anything out there that comes close to this but with less weight or better processing power for a hundred or two more? Having looked in the Office Works/JB/HN retail space I can't see anything decent myself.

  • thanks, purchased it for my relative.

  • +2

I missed out on the last deal - So I jumped on this one

I agree I was quite sad to realise that it was only 8 gb rather than 16 gb of ram

I paid to upgrade to 16 GB and got the 3 yr warranty which came out at $1094

Then I remembered Amex 250 cash back offer - which I had signed up for if you spend over $1299

I upgraded the ram to 32 GB - new price $1349.45

    1349.45 -250 = $1099.45

don't forget to add the cash rewards

    not a bad deal

32 Gb - probably overkill - but why not

    • Pretty good deal especially if the cash rewards is off the $1349 price expect another $100 cash back.

  • Is anyone having trouble getting through checkout? I keep getting messages similar to "Authorization has failed. Please contact your credit card provider." I tried PayPal and two different cards but no dice.

    • My bad - just a billing address issue. Thanks for the deal op.

  • Can anyone confirm when this deal expires?

    • Coupon code expires this Sunday (13 August).

  • does anyone have any idea how long is the battery life?

    • On linked page:

Battery life: Up to 8.4 hours
Battery life (and recharge times) will vary based on many factors including screen brightness, applications, features, power management, battery conditioning and other customer preferences.

      Again, YMMV.

      • That usually means it's nowhere near the "up to" quoted time.

They probably have brightness at very low, and all it does is idle. That's how you get your 8.4 hours.

  • Does anyone know - will this laptop handle most of the current games on the market

  • This is a much better deal especially using the Amex deal.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/321859#comment-4959918

  • Link doesn't work.
    It is over?

    • Lenovo told me that it finishes on Sunday but looks like the promo has ended prematurely.

      • They just sold out again, surely?

I assumed they have a set number of these they're prepared to sell at the deal price and once that lot is gone, the deal is over (for a couple of weeks until a similar one crops up).

  • Man, I am not having much joy with DHL on this one.

No email or phone call headsup to say when the package was first to be delivered. After re-arranging delivery for 2 days later, they give you a (bay) window of 9am-5pm. Jeez, couldn't they at least narrow it down to a 3 hour slot?

2nd attempted delivery the guy must've rang the bell all of once and then flown the coup. Again, a simple phone call headsup or ANYTHING to let you know more precisely when they're coming or if they're there, for the second time, would save so much hassle.

I'm reluctant to have them leave an $825 package on the front doorstep without a signature. I haven't had many things of that value delivered, but some arrangement with Aus Post would have been awesome where if you do miss the ninja delivery service, you can just go collect it at your convenience. Going for delivery attempt #3 now…
