I know it has been cheaper at Harvey Norman, still a good price for it however.
You can also order via Microsoft for the same price (no charge for postage)

Don't reward breaking the rules.
Yeah still a good price, I price matched last time at JB.
Is core m, inferior to i3 ?
the "i" stands for inferior
m for mediocre
that be mediocore
A touch better according to -> http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-6100U-vs-Intel-Core-M3…
End of the day it varies depending on generation and specific model.
Ohh I've always been happy using i3, going to pick up one. Thanks !
Try a few more comparison sites. The i3 is a 15w chip running at 2.3GHz, while the m3 is a 5w chip running at 0.9 Ghz. The m3 is designed to fit into fanless devices so its power draw must be minimised and so it is substantially less powerful.
Yes, there are many other variables going into how a system performs, but the m3 is always starting well behind the i3 of about the same generation.
(In some sense, this is not surprising - if the m3 used far less power, cost the same, and delivered the same or similar performance, then the i3 would not exist.)
I’m a fan of the CoreM. It keeps my notebook nice and quiet. I’ve had enough of noisy laptops. So I’m happy to take the performance hit in exchange for silence.
I just got my first Core M device and am really happy with it too. I wouldn't use it for anything that needs sustained load (eg gaming or video rendering) but for the sort of things I need on the road it's great, fanless and long battery life.
My thoughts exactly
would this be a better buy? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/tablets/ingram-m… - $699 - It comes with the pen and keyboard.
Depends on what your after.
I had seriously considered the Lenovo Mixx's, however when you add the keyboard they get fairly heavy compared to the surface (over 1kg), you can't expand the storage on the Mixx with a MicroSD either, lastly resolution is sharper on the Surface as well.
But as you say, you do get the other items that Microsoft don't include.
surface is also over 1 kg with the type cover. Not much of a difference but yes, each person has their preferences.
just a tip for the ozbargainers.
A samsung galaxy note S pen works for the surface and they can be obtained cheaply on ebay for like <$5. sure it doesnt have the magnetic attachment but for $5 you can have a working pen. Even the click works.
Just grab some of this to go with it :p

@s732: Fun fact i have my old surface pro 1 on my fridge, using m3 (command) wallmounts, you get my up vote, this method looks way better.
Awesome tip. Thanks!
Nice deal OP
Does anyone know if typing on the type cover is annoying ?
I wouldn't suggest you type on it 5 days a week 8 hours a day.
But as it goes I think it works pretty well these days, only a small amount of flex/bounce. They have improved it greatly since the original models.
Typing on an ultra flat keyboard is never fun but you'll get used to it.
I've used my Pro 4 with the type cover for uni for the past 2 years and have no problems with the keyboard. I wouldn't advice using it on your lap or in bed or anything since it's so flimsy with the devices kick stand as well, but on a desk it's more than fine.
Nice find.
And if you crack your display Microsoft charges you AU$830 to replace the device with a refurbished one…
Might as well buy a new one like from this deal again then?
Yep, just putting it there as a word of warning. Make sure you don't drop/break the display as it's not as cheap and easy replaced as an iPhone display. I've learned it the hard way.
Waiting for $699 again
Yeah, common Jerry!!
surely everyone here @ ozbargain would know this trick, just in case.. you can fabricate a further 5.7% saving by purchasing woolies egift card via cashrewards then goto woolies & convert them to jb hifi gift cards
Another trick - get a job at JB to access staff discount. As a staff member they will also pay you just for being in store if you're happy to help some people out and move boxes around. Once they have paid you enough, buy a high end printer and make some fake JB catalogues with discounted prices. Take this to Officeworks and use the "money" that they "paid" you to basically get stuff for free!
You can get type covers from Harvey Norman Business & Education for $158.40 shipped. That's the cheapest I could find for local stock at the moment.
All colours are available.
Login to cashrewards to get the link to the website.
Entertainment book members can get 5% off JB Hifi gift cards.
