Allows travel on all Australian toll roads - would work for MEL too?

    • -5

Nah, I'm highly doubtful as last time I checked Melbourne wasn't located in Australia >_>

    • +3

Legit question, as they only have examples of Syd Tolls on the website …. but I am pretty sure Transurban are national?

      EDIT:
Also the Toll calculator ONLY shows Syd, and they only discuss cash back for M5 in Syd … tried to look for Melbs but it wasn't an option …

Transurban is known as "Linkt" in Sydney and "Citylink" in Melbourne.

        • +1

So you can create an account and get the $50 credit and use for Melbourne? Or is that promo only valid for Syd?

With Transurban Linkt, you can easily manage your account online or over the phone. You can also enjoy the benefits of toll travel anywhere in Australia—our accounts and passes work on all Australian toll roads, not just those in Sydney.

Make a lot more money by charging tolls at other spots like traffic lights, intersections, speed humps. Sarcasm ;-\
Lucky WA is entirely toll free.

    • +5

      Shhh, they might hear you…

    • +1

You've still got those annoying hidden and unmarked speed cameras everywhere though

      • +1

        Doesn't everywhere?

        • +8

NSW has at least 2 signs warning of a speed camera ahead.

      • Come to ACT, we have no tolls AND clearly signed speed cameras

        • +1

Clearly marked sign right on top of the van and in 10 size font. Very helpful, as is the speed camera I found on a hill somewhere and the next one down a slope where you will be naturally be faster than a flat road!

  • What's different with myrta E-Toll? more expensive or less?

    • +1

      Same price, different systems.

No different. I have govia and live in NSW coz their tag is smallest

    • For "tag account", no difference.
For "tagless account", more expensive ($0.55–$0.75 vehicle matching fee per trip).

      • with the $50 toll credit, the vehicle matching fee can be taken to be waived for the first 50 trips ?

        • +1

From my understanding, all they do is deposit $50 into your "toll account".
The $50 is then used to pay the toll as well as the vehicle matching fee.

        • ^yes, they do this. Deposit $50 then deduct from that whatever comes up.

    • +2

In my opinion, for the tag account it's a bit better — security deposit is only $15 ($40 for RMS), minimum automatic topup amount is $20 (as opposed to $40), and minimum automatic topup trigger amount is $20 (as opposed to $40). None of these are actual expenses, but it means less of your money is held at the toll provider.

Downside is AMEX surcharge is a bit more than double (2.15% for Linkt, 1.05% for RMS). I don't know how Linkt charges would be categorised, and if they'd get the lousy government rate that RMS charges do (0.5pts). Visa/Mastercard surcharge is about the same.

      • Good point. Instead of locking $80 with RMS, I will have only $35 with these mob. I was anyways making direct debit top-up from my bank (to avoid CC surcharge) and will do the same with this tag too.

  • +1

    Does it work in QLD?

    • Yep i got last deal. Got about $5 left

  • I have another vehicle with the rta tag. Should I just get another on that account for second car? Or get this? Seems confusing.

    • Extra 2 Tags are FREE from RMS

      • hi @Steptoe how do I get the extra 2 free tags? I already have a tag with roamexpress (linkt now). We just bought a new car and the only option for me to get an additional tag is to either lease it at $0.9/month or pay $15 upfront refundable deposit.
I am still confused why anyone will pay $0.9/month when they can get it essentially for free with the $15 refundable payment (oops did i just answer my own question?)

        • @foogle, I have etoll with RMS. I believe you can order 2 additional tags (3 total) for free. All the tags link to one account.

I ordered two extra tags (lost 1st one, ordered 1 extra, then bought 2nd car, ordered another) several years ago. Just log into your etoll account, and there should be an option to order more tags.

Hmm I live an hour outside the big smoke and have used the tolls about once in 3 years. Contemplating if this is worth it for me.

Does credit ever expire? Can it be transferred in future if I replace my vehicle?

    • +7

Any portion of the Toll Credit which is not used by 30 September 2018 which was credited to the claimant's Linkt Account will be forfeited.

  • Can anyone explain something quickly. Since I've never used a toll road before
With this deal if you were doing the full East link.
Would it be $1.50 setup fee 55 to 75c per trip?

    • No that's the surcharge for not using a tag. The Eastlink pricing you can find on the Eastlink website.

    • +2

      Full break down:
You pay $1.50 today to open an account with linkt. (It is a one-off service charge)

Every time you do the full East link, you will be charged $6.13 toll + $0.75 vehicle matching fee = $6.88

  • +1

So I could open a tagless account and pay $1.50 and get $50 credit to use straight away?
I live in Geelong and visit Melbourne once a month or so. Can I just use the $50 and then close the account?
Sorry for all the questions but I never had a tag account before, I have just been getting a letter in the mail every time a pass a toll for at least $15.

  • +3

If you already had your car set up for tagless with Citylink, would you cancel/close that account or just remove your car from it?

  • +2

    Open tag account

    Use M5 11 times

    Claim cashback

    PROFIT!!!!!!

  • I just registered and haven't seen any $50 yet.
"A claim must be received by the Promoter by end of the Promotional Period or it will not be accepted. Claims are deemed to be received at the time of receipt by the Promoter, not at the time of electronic transmission by the claimant." <<< This is an excerpt from the T&C. Do I need to do to get that $50?

    • I assume the claim is an account opening given there is no promo code. Will keep an eye on it over the next week and see if it gets topped up with the $50 credit.

      • In fact I don't see any information regarding my balance (neither $0 nor $50) on their web site

        • Same here. Not sure when it will be credited

        • @super bargain:
Reading the T&C suggests a 7 day wait.

        • @Steptoe:
A month passed and I still not get that $50

  • What's gonna happen if you have your rego under a city link etag? wpuld I get double charged

    • It should be able to tell that the car is registered to two and just charge one of them but sometimes there are problems.
I would just remove it by logging into your account. Takes a few minutes

  • +1

Just drive on the non toll roads instead. Often they're doing roadworks, it's congested or they've limited the speed on the tollroad for some reason or another. So I can never justify the additional expense for potentially only saving a few minutes off the travel time.

    • +1

Depends where you're traveling from. During peak times some toll roads are more congested than the non toll roads. In my experience I save a hell of a lot of time taking the toll roads. Life's too short to be sitting in traffic trying to save $3-$7.

      • +2

You need to install Waze and try out the crowd sourced routes and avoid tolls worth $6 AVG x 250 days a year = $1500 a year, $20000 in 10 years including interest , that's a brand mid level Demo SUV like Outlander !

        • I do use Waze and always look at the different route options. Majority of the time the toll road is quicker. Perhaps I'm not the ideal OzBargainer but I prefer paying a toll to spend less time in traffic.

        • +1

          @nayfon:
Paying the toll does not equate to always saving time.

Many times I've paid the toll to enter the toll road and find that they've a speed limit reduction in place, roadworks or its congested, lane closed etc.

Google Maps estimated travel time comparison of rolled vs. non-tolled helps me decide greatly. When the toll road is doing its job, the time saved is only a few minutes and so the $14 is unjustified.

  • Can you register 2 people under the one car and get $100 credit?

  • For anyone who already has a Roam Express e-Tag account, unfortunately you won't be able to take on this offer due to the following condition in the T&C

Entry is open to Australian residents aged 18 years or over. The following persons are ineligible to enter:
any person who has, or has had at any time within one month preceding the Promotional Period, a Roam Express e-Tag Account

  • What gonna happened if there are more than 1 tag(different provider) on my car when go through the toll point?

    • Multiple tolls.

    • +1

I worked for ConnectEast for many years.

Can confirm, cross tolls on both accounts.

      You won't be refunded either.

  • +2

With a Citilink Account, you will have to spend a minimum of $27.50 per annum if you have a tag. Is there any such requirement with linkt? I can't find it in their Account Fees page

    • I sent them an email on Monday asking this question, along with if the Tagless accounts will still trigger toll notices. They've replied:

There are no annual fees or minimum spend on Tag or Tagless Accounts. Tagless accounts allow you to travel without incurring Toll Notices.

  • Thanks OP good deal :)

  • I already have an etag with RMS, so can I apply for this and use this once my RMS etag hits $0 balance?

    • Can't you just cancel the RMS eToll & they refund you?

  • Has anyone received this? Does it show $80 credit (30+50)?

    • -1

      Have I received? No.
Does it show $80? No it shouldn't. It's only $50. I don't understand why the OP wrote $80.

      • +2

If you open a tag account, you need to deposit $30 into your toll account when you sign up. $50 bonus credit plus $30 initial deposit equals $80 total credit.

    • +1

Got an email today advising of the credit, checked my account and it's there :)

  • I drive to the airport 4-5 days a week from Liverpool, and avoid the tolled sections of the M5. Will this e-tag benefit me financially in anyway? I understand significant time maybe saved, but hearing mention of the M5 Cashback schemes, deposits, credits seem to have confused me.

    • +1

It is very easy to claim M5 cashbacks. When you log into your toll account (regardless of provider), you should see a link that says "Click here to claim M5 cashback". It's that simple.

Do note that you can only claim the toll amount, less GST. (You can't claim the GST component of the toll)

  • My car was registered under someone elses name. If they remove my car from their account and I create a new account for my car will I receive the bonus credit?

I'm not any person who has, or has had at any time within one month preceding the Promotional Period, a Roam Express e-Tag Account so surely I qualify.

  • I am currently using a myRTA eTag, can I apply for the tagless account and just remove my eTag from the windscreen when crossing the Sydney Toll Roads? Will the system double charge me on both the eTag and the Linkt?

Anyone successful in using the tagless account with an existing eTag account?

    Thanks

  • Anyone received their tags ?

  • Is this useful for somebody who will be visiting Sydney and using a rental car?

  • I bought a tagless account, but could not find that $50. How can I check my balance?

    • +1

Wait a few days. You should get an email "Enjoy your $50 toll credit", and can then login and click "Financial history".

      • Thanks. Found that $50 in "Financial history" :)

  • If anyone else is using linkt tagless in Melbourne, I found it took nearly a week for trips to show up on my online account. They eventually did though.

I had to first take the tag out of the car and deregister that car from my eastlink account, otherwise that got charged instead.

  • Just signed a tagless account. Didn't get any welcome email. But I can login with the email address. Worry about may not get welcome $50 credit.

    • I've just signed in as well. Received an initial email right away. Let's see if the credit will be added.I'll post an update here.

      • +1

Checked account today, got the $50 credit (Financial History), pretty happy :)

        • thank you for letting me know! I received it as well, happy days!

    • +2

      From the terms and conditions:

      9) Toll Credits will be credited within 7 working days of the claim by direct credit to the claimant's Linkt Account. The Promotor will notify the claimant by SMS or email after the Toll Credit has been credited.

  • Does anyone know if its possible to create a tagless account, and move to a tag later on? Just not too sure how often I'll be using the M4 after the 15th August at this stage of time.

    Edit:

Just gave them a call and they've advised that transferring from a tagless to a tag is not possible. If someone could confirm that this is the case, that would be fantastic. Will be looking at opening an account later today.

    • Thanks. I'm having the same question.
So have you opened another account? Would you get another $50 for that? :)

I just found that LinkT got very bad review (https://www.productreview.com.au/p/transurban-linkt.html). ALL reviewers gave 1 star. Never saw such bad provider

      • Oh crap… That doesn't sound good… Oh well stuck now. I'll see what happens

  • Thanks OP, got my $50 credit… Only took a day.

  • Can you have 2 accounts for 2 separate cars?
