    not a bad price

    • +3

I got one last time it was on sale and have been pretty underwhelmed. I should've researched, but it doesn't allow Plex to pass through DTS to my amp and HEVC playback is sketchy at best :/
I know other apps handle it, but I really like Plex for it's clean interface and artwork/info handling. I really wanted to like it, but it's not for me. YMMV.

      • +2

Which android tv box allows dts pass through? I m also needing something that can do that.

        • +1

mibox 3 does do DD-HD and DTS-HD passthrough in Kodi though

        • @FeZZa21: Thanks. Is the mibox better than the M8s for instance?

        • @jeeg:

I don't know anything about the m8s, i came from a nexus player and WDTV and it's heaps better than those.

        • @FeZZa21: In what way is it heaps better than the WDTVLive?

        • @northernculture:

          superior Kodi experience vs WDTV
          less laggy
doesn't forget where you stopped movie/show when you turn it off
can download subtitles when you play a movie/show
          5Ghz and more stable wifi
          4K
          etc

Though my WDTV does DTSX and Atmos passthrough, haven't tried with Kodi on this box yet.

        • @FeZZa21:
          oh and more snappy :)

        • Mi Box does Atmos and DTS-X passthrough with Kodi too, I've tried it with no problems.

      • +3

This is an issue with plex, it should be using the internal android tv player like kodi does, which works.

  • +4

Don't forget 9% cashback through CashRewards.

    • Great addition to great deal!!

But what in heck am i doing wrong - can't get this deal - it forces expensive shipping! Only that option and tickbox is there. Mobile problem? Don't have a computer.

2 or more forces expensive but crazy fast express. Please include info with all deals.

          @YogaPants:

2 or more forces expensive but crazy fast express. Please include info with all deals.

Coming from someone who has posted ZERO deals himself it's a bit rich to demand that people include information that they wouldn't be aware of.

        • -2

@Maverick-au: I demanded nothing. I support the deal & poster with plusvote. I found limit of one per transaction. I gave information for others. And asked to spread the word. Staff added it. You gave this nothing. Be obnoxious somewhere else.

  • What does this thing do? Don't understand how to use that little box to do anything

    • +5

play media files.. eg music or movies
surf the net with the display is through your tv.

install kodi to watch tv shows and movies.

mirror whats on your phone or tablet. displays through your tv.

      • Thanks, seems similar to just using chromecast to cast mobile apps though, definitely might still bite on this if it gets cheaper in the future, it's not that much more expensive than the chromecast

        • +4

its better than chromecast because of the apps can access your smb folders plus kodi

in saying that, kodi add-on third parties are shutting down one by one. if your intention is for streaming, you may want to rethink this option.
          http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4581270/Phoen…

        • +1

This is a lot cheaper and supports 4K, the chromecast ultra 4K equivalent is $98 from HN. This has built-in Chromecast plus you can do so much more like (games, voice search, play local media, surf, download apps etc.)

      • Does anyone know of any device that does tv to tv mirroring (to share content of one tv to another tv)?

    • Watch Netflix and other online streaming services.

      Play Android games.

    • +2

may be OP can clear things up for you!

      • Is that you, Austin Powers?

        • +4

no it is I gimli son of gloin.
          Savior of middle earth.

        • +3

          @Gimli: oh, sorry, my mistake

    • +2

Think of AppleTV, but with Google apps and OS.

      • Looks like cannot replace my wd live tv then. Anyone knows a good replacement?

        • I don't know what features the WD Live TV has. But this Mi box (I've had mine for months) can play Netflix, YouTube, and via Kodi or VLC can play anything on my network or plugged in via USB. And with a little remote with microphone, the voice search works pretty well.

        • +6

this should definitely replace the wd live tv

        • @t3chshopper:
What's the remote like for watching movies from your own network ? No issues ?

Only ask because I had a generic android box and it was impossible. To pause for instance, I had to hit a button to bring up the on-screen controls, then navigate to them to pause, whatever.

        • @t3chshopper: Do you mean Mi box has VLC software then search wd live book to play iso file?

        • +1

@yht: If you install Kodi, you don't need VLC as Kodi can play almost every format and has a better interface and search, or you can also use Plex as well.

        • @jominix: is the usb port on the back for plugging usb/hdd and playing media files on them?

        • @jominix:Ok, the storage capacity of it is only 8gb and obviously we can install any android apps there until they updates all the time like in android phone before it runs out space. Is it how it works? Sorry asking a lot of question as I never have it and wants to be sure it can play iso file via wifi.

        • @redcreek200:

To pause for instance, I had to hit a button to bring up the on-screen controls,

Sounds like you are talking about Kodi. The default config seems to assume you have a play/pause button on the remote, but the Mi does not.

You can remap the keys quite easily to get a 1-button pause. See the whirlpool thread.

        • @manic: Yes. This was my biggest gripe about Kodi with the Mi remote. Thanks to that WP tip I had it fixed in minutes.

        • I have a wdtv live and its crap. I don't even have one of these boxes and I know it would be better.

wdtv: no apps etc for wdtv, no kodi, PITA when connecting to networks via wifi, crap interface.. poor form in general.

          But that's my opinion..

if this thing runs android then your winning from the start..

        • @Fizzydrink: But wdtv has movie covers which I like. Not sure if I can do this with mi box.

        • @Fizzydrink:

I have a wdtv live and its crap.

Yeah, like I have a PDP-11 and its crap. Doesn't even have a web browser.

You know the WD was released in 2009? Why anyboady is comparing it to a MiBox, I've no idea.

        • @bargainist:
Install Kodi and covers, plots etc is done automatically. I don't have this MiBox but did replace slow daggy WDLive Streaming with other Android boxes and no regrets.

        • @deltakilo: Thanks. Goodbye to WDTV.

    • +5

It kills the movie business and TV business according to the movie and TV business.

      • +12

Can you repeat that. Couldn't hear over the Bullshit Alarm going off in my head.

      • haha, or their 'independent' sources

      • You mean the businesses that play more ads than content that it's turned me, my friends and my family off them for good?

  • what adapter should i get?

    • For?

      • Power Adapter - EU Adapter? or US Adapter?

        • +3

People just get your generic inbound adapted (EU in to AU out) but I don't like skimping on electronics so went with something from JB and it works fine. Voltage is same as Aussie so won't need a transformer.

If you want ethernet, ensure you get the Ugreen USB to ethernet as others don't work.

        • +1

@rorymeister: I have a collection of about 3 billion AC adapters that I occasionally dip into …

        • @rorymeister:
I have the Ugreen USB to ethernet, and every time I turn the MiBox off (and on again) it switches back to wifi. I have to remove and plug in the ethernet adapter again. It's basically useless…

        • @albadam000:

That sucks. Hope that doesn't happen to me.

  • USD $ 20.76 (50% off) for Express Expedited? That's pretty expensive. If I use the free shipping will take 33 days to arrive here + 10% GST.

    • +2

You're getting charged for GST already? Nah the seller has to collect it… and they're not.

  • Can it play iso file from wifi?

    • All depends on your particular setup.

Do you have a media player that accepts iso?

Is your WiFi in good shape? I had to use a Ugreen ethernet adaptor and it now plays my 10GB+ mkv files flawlessly on SPMC (Similar to Kodi)

      • -1

I have wd live tv to play iso file stored in wd live mybook

    • Yes KODI can playback ISO files over SMB no worries.

  • +2

Stan Android TV app was released last week (and works well), and revamped Foxtel Now supports casting.

    • What a pity it's still Stan eh :p

  • +1

Good price, but hasn't everybody got one already?
Its not like Eneloops where you can always have more.

    • I hadn't :) but ordered now :) will be handy! Paid the $0.99 for insurance just for peice of mind

      Currency conversion

Conversion from: $79.16 AUDConversion to: $57.47 USD

      • +1

Select USD and use payment method with no conversion fee - citibank etc.

        • I only had Paypal.. not to fussed :) still a good price and yes I paid in USD

        • @Gomo:
Paypal probably gouge you worse the the seller in cross rates.

        • @Steptoe well $79 all up it's decent given the spec on this unit :) happy to wait

    • +3

One? I've got 3 of them :( I need help.

      • +2

You don't need help. You need more TVs.

        • You sir are a genius.

      • Sell them on ebay?

      • +1

No problem, just shoot me one in the post. Am happy to assist a fellow Ozbargainer in need :)

        • me too, problem sorted!

  • This company should give us an option to select eparcel with a trackable number via AusPost. Aliexpress and Fasttech have this option free of charge.

    • Why don't you email them and suggest it?

  • quick question for anyone who's used one (or knows more than i do at this point) - if i have a google play music subscription, can i play via this? (either directly from this, or via my phone?)

    ta!

    • +1

      Yes you can

      • thanks!

just looked through the website actually and it's pretty damn obvious it's possible… sorry! :D

        • +2

Works as remote spotify speaker too.

  • Did someone has bought it earlier from this seller? How much time it usually take to reach sydney????

    • -1

???? Can someone please share their experience? I really wants to purchase this.

      • +2

Since it's coming from China it's going to take about a month.

        • Via the Netherlands too.

        • @Steptoe:

Yeah i am still waiting for the one i purchased in May to arrive from the Netherlands

  • Showing up as $80.77 for me as a Cortex - A53???

    • +1

did you select USD ? also note the title says ~$ so depending on conversion rates etc, $80 sounds about it I paid $79

      • Thank you 👍🏻

    • +2

Their AUD rate is inflated. I based mine off the current exchange rate. I normally use a CC with no currency conversion fees to get a lower price.

    • me too. And does anyone know will it charge Tax or duty once arrive to AU?

      • Post July 1 the seller need to charge it. I don't believe it gets collected our end.

        • +1

Very much doubt Lightinthebox will be collecting GST.

  • Does it come with Chinese TV streaming apps that can be used in Australia?

    • It's running Android TV. If there are Chinese TV streaming apps for Android TV then you can use them.

    • +2

No, this is an international version that do not have Chinese TV apps pre-installed. You can install it yourself however they are almost worthless as most of the copyright content can only be played in mainland China.

      • Thanks, that is a deal breaker for me.

        • If you mean CCTV etc. Yes, some streaming software can do that and the content is free to watch. If you mean watching TV program in youku, tudou etc, there are some copyright restriction unless you setup the VPN. That should be applied to any of your device in Australia.

      • +4

        China has copyright??!!

        • -1

Yes and no. You can still download anything in China, just like anywhere in the world, including Australia.
