      • Is that safe.. Is there a video of people doing it. Don't want to set my house on fire lol

        • If u r askin then its not safe for u. Been doing it since the early 90's.

  • Does anyone know if this device will play Stan, Presto, SBS on demand, and ABC on demand?

    • Kodi has add-ons for those. But if all you want is those Aus freeview apps then the Telstra TV box is best option, it has them all natively.

  • +1

Mixed impressions about mine - have had it for a few weeks now. Kodi and other apps crash frequently. Unable to retain a static IP - once you unplug the Ethernet adapter it goes back to DHCP. Breaks DTV signal - needs to be OFF to watch telly, this was not a problem with a Raspberry Pi I used before.
You have to put up with a limited selection of apps and funny uncustomizable interface. The apps you install manually may not appear on the list of apps.
Can't add another language to the keyboard even when the whole interface is in a LOTE. Stops recongnizing English voice search when the interface is in a LOTE.
Love the remote, even though it is of limited use, a normal keyboard is a must if you have an extensive library to scrape.

Interesting. I've had mine for over six months now. No dramas for me. I've been using XBMC since the original Xbox, so I'm pretty used to Kodi's quirks.

I haven't had any issues with crashes, and mine gets used regularly by kids for Netflix, Kodi and YouTube. I just use wifi on mine without any issues.

For the money, I haven't found anything that offers close to this functionality.

    • @ldq - 'Unable to retain a static IP' - you're removing ethernet adapter… that's not entirely unexpected behaviour for it to lose some IP settings.
If you said you were just removing the ethernet CABLE, then yes, I would completely agree with you… but you're removing a piece of hardware effectively.
I think your expectations here are the problem (Linux vs Android comparisons), rather than the box.

Your DTV issue sounds isolated to you as this doesn't happen for me or seemingly anyone else.

Your language issue is, again, a bit of a moot point.
Considering 90% of Xiaomi's products are solely in Chinese, the fact this is in a fully fledged English language version is a huge plus.
I don't believe this box was ever marketed outside of the likes of China and some English speaking countries like the US, so expecting other language support is again… over optimistic expectations.

With regards using a keyboard… you're only experiencing this because you seem to be trying to use something other than English.
If you use English, and voice recognition, searching is a breeze even without a full keyboard.

Not sure why everyone is going on so much about Plex. Movian is a much better media player for Android and it's free.

  • Thanks OP, bought one to replace my ageing WDTV that pops and crackles over HDMI and refuses to connect to my network shares from time to time! Wife will be pleased (I hope)!

  • Does it play 4K?

  • Hi guys, is this a suitable replacement for Apple Tv 3? I predominately use ATV3 for Netflix, Plex (via plexconnect), and Twitch. Also, i have a jailbroken iOS device that i can airplay foxtel go onto which i don't want to lose. ATV4 would tick all the boxes except it costs too much

    • I use Netflix, YouTube and Kodi on mine. Plenty of people use Plex on this, but I don't have any experience with it. You can Chromecast to it, just like to a normal Chromecast device.

    • There is no worth to keep the ATV3 if you buy the mi box.

  • I grab a new android tv box for around 90 bucks each 18 months or so because of improvements in handling codecs and general stability but I wish this or others had large internal memory as standard even if its low speed as all my units have crashed once every couple of months and three times now I've had the data on a plugged in 128GB USB flash drive corrupted.

I've seen some with 64GB or 128 but never heard of the brand before and don't see reviews on youtube for them either

    • There are heaps of reviews for the Mi box on YouTube. It's sold in Walmart in the USA. If you want a device with heaps of internal memory, buy one of those 500GB Nvidia Shields.

    • +1

If you use your media so much perhaps you should just consider building/buying a small media server. These devices really don't need much storage space because streaming is easier and more popular. I have one of these (Mi Box) and it is great.

  • Wow, and I thought I got mine cheap at just under $100 from Ali-express some months ago :-) nice find OP. I love the Mibox3 we own, way better as a media player than my old DuneHD base 3 player. Plays every media type I have tried, and the HD audio passthrough for the latest DTS and Doldy formats too.

Got mine a few weeks back. Netflix 4K works great on it, haven't tried Stan yet but they've just released an app for Android TV.

Downside to this box is no auto resolution switching. But I'm using mine as a companion box to my NUC which can only do up to 1080p @ 60fps.

Overall I'd say it's worth a buy, especially at this price. It will take 3-4 weeks to get to you though.

  • Does anyone know if this will allow you to stream Australian free to air tv channels? We have an issue with aerial at home and wondering if this will allow us to bypass this issue rather than having to fork out to get it fixed

  • Thnx For that price I ordered 2

  • dammit.. i ordered one for my folks the other day.. now i have to cancel and re purchase to apply the discount!

    • So this is a great deal!

      I think plus vote sir/lady

  • I am looking at getting this to replace a WD TV Live. Also have a cheap box for Kodi but want something a little better.

Silly question, I am wanting to pay by paypal, where do I insert the code? I was about to login to paypal but was concerned I was going to pay $80.xx.

    Thanks

    • After you add the product to your shopping cart click Proceed to Checkout instead of Paypal Checkout. It'll let you choose shipping and apply the coupon.

      • Thanks for that ended up coming in at $73.62. I am happy with that.
        Cheers

  • I can't see where to put the code. Where is it? Edit: sorry people already asked

  • I bought it without the code a couple of days ago :'(.

  • Thanks. I bought one too.
Should know better than to check ozbargain…. keeps me buying all the 'essentials'…

    • Ah damn I just couldn't resist at this price… i guess i can get rid of the chromecast 2 and the WD Live Hub now

      • But no supporting the deal?

        • Maybe you should get your YogaPants back on bro and chill out a bit

  • Ah balls.. I ordered this last night before the coupon code was added to the deal.. :(

    • So this deal is good. Plus vote is free

  • Ordered last night. Order just shipped.

    • +1

Yep same here maybe we all got on the same boat 😂

      • I honestly hate Lightinthebox sometimes.
I ordered on the 8th (two days before you guys) and decided to shell out on the expedited shipping and mine is still marked as "Processing".

They really take the piss sometimes.

Almost every lightinthebox order I do sits "Processing" for about a week.

        • +1

hi dear, apologize for this trouble, we are day off on weekend and just back. do you mind pm your order number so that i can expedite the process

        • @MiniInTheBox: Hi,
It's ok I logged a support ticket and they said it'd take up to 48 hours more to process.
But shortly after this, it's been marked as "Shipped" so hopefully it's now sent out.

Thanks for offering to help though.

        • +1

@Deviner: lol glad to hear that, hope you enjoy this deal. if you have any questions about your order welcome to contact me

  • Cheers. Bought one.

  • Apparently its been shipped but that seems unlikely unless it's travelling by ship.

  • I wonder if they will be shipped via Switzerland before entering our shores Banggood do with a lot of their parcels

    • That'd be good because I get things delivered in about 3 weeks from banggood.

  • Ordered $71. Only had paypal to pay didnt mind the extra $3. First time buyer. Any good websites to set up Kodi etc? Looking for a live Thai TV add on

  • Thanks OP i have been thinking about buying one for a while now to replace my ROKU 2

  • Lightinthebox telling me they haven't received my paypal payment even though it's been deducted and I sent them the screenshot of the transaction.

Told me to wait 7 days before they'll follow up as it's an international transaction…. hmmmm

  • Just ordered. Worked out to $75.03 incl shipping insurance for me. Thanks

    • Arrived in Melbourne today 21st July, shipped 26th June, no tracking after that. So it will arrive, just takes a while

  • Just ordered. $68.34 on my 28 degrees card. Thanks OP

  • Hi would this work plugged into rca (ryw) and output NTSC?

  • Does anyone know if the OS is upgrade-able? I bought an Android box 1 year ago and it no longer works as I can't upgrade the android version.

  • +4

dear all, if anyone's second order canceled please pm me to solve it, if anyone's order are on processing more than 3 working days or not shiped more than 5 working days, please pm me your order number. please keep in your mind, when you have any order problem, contact me first to get priority. i'm always here to help.

    thanks
    Oscar

  • Mine shipped the other day. How long before the tracking starts to work?

  • Which Adapter to choose?

    • +2

If you're going to use an AU converter then the US is more suitable. EU plugs stick out significantly more.

      • Thanks for clearing that up

  • I'm only getting to $73.62 after applying coupon and unticking boxes

  • ..comment removed

Trick was to do the purchase in USD and use 28 degrees card for best conversion rates ($67.88). LITB conversion rates are a money grab.

  • +1

Paid in USD with code and 28degrees conversion
    Came to $67.88AUD
    THNX

Anyone recommend a keyboard for this?

  • Ordered Saturday night, got shipping notice this afternoon
Now how long will it take to arrive?

  • -1

is this the best box out there for playing plex on my crappy old plasma dumb tv? does it have a remote and wifi built in?

    ta

  • Does anyone know where is it shipped from. I got the tracking number which looks like from Netherlands. Not traceable yet. Got shipped on 14 June.

    • China or Hong Kong normally. Probably using PostNL (Netherlands Post) to ship it.

      • How do they use PostNL to ship from China or Hongkong.

        • PostNL operate in China and can ship worldwide. It might end up in a Netherlands sorting centre.

    • Same. Mine is in still preadvice stage with no movement.

From a previous lightinthebox order, took over a month whereas gearbest and other Chinese suppliers is about 2 weeks.

I didn't learn the first time!

      • hi dear, do you mind pm your order number? so i check it for you and figure out what happened

        • Thanks for the reply. It's been marked as shipped but I'll send you the order number to double check

        • Same here, Ordered on 8th and tracking showing as pre-advice (which means the carrier didnt even receive the item yet), Can you please cancel my order and refund my money. Just Opened a ticket.

        • @doctorwatson: hi dear, just checked in my system. it has been send out and on the way to AU, that means the carrier has been get the package and on the way to AU, the track information would update when it land on AU, just need wait shipping company update the track information. but you can give me a ticket id and i will see if i can do any help

        • @MiniInTheBox:

Your postage is slow. I suggest you seek another postage supplier because your competitors are outdoing you here.

Banggood and gearbest are my examples. Items I've ordered from them came within 2 weeks. Why does lightinthebox take 1+ month?

It's not just me, there's been so many complaints about how slow postage is for lightinthebox

        • @davodinkum: our shipping team are working on this for a long time, but still have many problem need to solve.

  • +1

Now I wish I didnt order from here :/

  • Anyone else unable to get unsubscribed from their newsletters/promo emails? I've tried clicking on the unsubscribe link in each email numerous times this week but still keep receiving them.

  • Shipped on 14-June, still not able to track.

  • +1

Ahhh man keeps looking worse and worse

    • Why's that? Do you expect it to arrive in a week with free shipping from China?

      • No i expect 1 month and so decent track info and updates. No need to be condescending about it is that clear?

        • The tracking will update when it arrives in Australia. Why does anyone want to know whether it passes through some country?

        • From my experience that's almost always the case. When your package passes the sorting centre the tracking is only going to work until it is dispatched to Australia or arrives in Australia. Actual tracking of where it is in Australia will not work.

    • Mines now been updated finally from pre advise stage to it being at the sorting centre on the 23rd. I'm predicting another 2 weeks away for delivery

  • Ordered. With shipping insurance and discount from coupon the final came out as AUD $ 75.03. Must be due to bad conversion from paypal.

    • Paypal will always have a bad conversion so they get their cut. A lot of people have cards like 28 Degrees or Citibank Plus which have no currency conversion fees to avoid that.

  • +1

The shipping is taking way too long.

    • It's a joke. Ordered on the 9th and it's only at the sorting centre

  • Mine also says at PostNL sorting center in Australia on 24/7/17. Hope this is correct, should not take long now.

    • When did you order?

      • It was shipped on 14-Jun, ordered on 11-Jun

  • +2

Will never purchase from lightinthebox again.
Purchased 14-Jun - get a message from litb every two days saying it is on the way.
    Package has not left Netherlands.
I will raise a paypal dispute if it takes greater than 30 days.

    • Take it easy. You order from somewhere that takes for ever then expect it to be at you place super fast.

The tracking is rubbish and will next show when it turns up in Oz.

      Just chill and wait.

    • +2

morning dear, apologize for this trouble. considering we are oversea company and use cheap normal shipping, so the shipping time will cost around 3-5 weeks. please be patient thanks

      • You guys really need to improve on this. There are lot of other overseas companies that use cheaper shipping as well, but they don't take this long.
Hope you are going to take the feedback positively and improve from here.

      • Shipped june 14th. Will it still arrive? Tracking says in destination to country of origin

        • -1

hi dear, that means package has been landed AU and holding by AU post carrier now.

  • Your item has arrived in the country of destination.
    Yahhhh

    Ordered on the 24th

    • Keep on waiting. My parcel was shipped on 14th, tracking shows in Australia since 24-Jun.
