  • Has anyone currently on optus successfully changed to prepaid then taken up this offer?

    • +1

I just did it with the 25% off Click Frenzy offer last week. I signed up for the deal when my phone was still a postpaid account but out of contract. Then I changed it to the $2 a day prepaid, then rang up Optus and got them to apply the deal to my prepaid service. A new service includes upgrading a prepaid to postpaid. You don't have to switch carriers.

      • May I ask how long it took you to switch from post to prepaid?

        • 1 day for me, afternoon to afternoon

service cut out a bit then was reactivated

once it shows in your 'my account' (updates almost instantly) that you're on prepaid, they are allowed to process orders through from prepaid to postpaid

        • @takutox:
I switched from post paid out of contract to prepaid which took 24 hours. I then was able to sign up for this offer. Soon after I signed up I got some dodgy email saying I need to call them about the order..

        • @FSTB:

same here, happened to me on click frenzy deal

just means that their system is still showing that you are on postpaid making you ineligible

all you have to do is call up and tell them 'no, im on prepaid, please check again, shows on my account as prepaid etc.'

this worked in my case after the person checked again

        • @takutox:

Click Frenzy was also only a one day deal so I was still signed up under postpaid. I just signed up for the Click Frenzy deal but by the time I organised the switch to prepaid it was the weekend so then I had to wait until the Monday. One of the staff I spoke to on chat said I could let them know the prepaid number right up until the phone & SIM were delivered and activated.

  • why have I got a text to call them about my order. they can call me.

  • I signed up for the $30p/m plan (discounted from $40 p/m) and it said the discount doesn't apply until the second bill.. does that mean if I terminate my contract after the plan ends, they'll credit me back 10 bucks?

  • I know why can't they bill you $30 each month x 12
Why $40 for the first month

    • Discount applies on the 2nd bill onwards.

This isn't a $30 plan, in this case: it's a $40 plan + a discount but your total amount due should be less the discount.

  • I am two minds abt this deal. I have never been in a contract before. Should I pull the Trigger for S8+ for $77 with 10 gb data or continue to buy outright phones

    • You do the maths.

Take the price you can buy it outright, subtract it from the contract cost and that will give you the cost of the plan, divide that by 24 and work out how much it is costing you a month. If you're paying more than that now, or getting less, then get the contract.

      • To be honest that is good advice and I did the same thing. What made me go with Optus is that they also offering the streaming service of Netflix included in the plan I also thought that Telstra offered a very good deal with the $90 and 25 gigabytes however this deal is not for an S8 plus which is what I was after. Telstra do also offer 6 months apple music subscription which might interest some people. I really couldn't be bothered going with a grey import phone this time so I wanted to get one of the local deals like Woolworths, but in the end when I considered data streaming how i use my phone and the phone that I want I could not beat Optus deal.

    • Have you got a link to this deal? I'm interested in it as well.

  • Anyone getting error "We couldn't find a service that matched the credentials you provided, please check the input and try again."?

    • I got the same massage. Tried many times. Called Optus and the guy said it is only for staff. When I asked then why the web site says "Customers " he just cut the phone call. Tried chatting with customer support. Then I was told the original website link should have sent by an employee with their employee I'd etc etc. Don't know why I'm not eligible.

      • Use the links from the Wiki instead…worked for me just now.

        • getting the same issue.. lol

if we use links from wiki we don't get the $50

  • Hey guys, If I get a plan which includes netflix & music streaming can I put the sim in a 4G wifi modem then use the music & netflix on the connected devices without using my allowance? Thanks

    • Yes you can

      • Are you sure..? I have a vodafone 4g modem (unlocked). If we can do it, will be interested in getting the $20/month samsung tablet offer. Is there anyway of testing it before I sign the contract..?

        • You can double check with Optus before signing up a contract

  • Where to find referral code from my existing optus service?

  • Can anyone help on how to stack the deal with the student discount?

Do I have to call, not online?

    • "Referee terms and conditions: Offer available to the first 3 referrals per referrer only. 25% discount applies to monthly plan fees, not handset repayments. 25% discount will appear from your second bill and is for 24 months or until you change or cancel your plan. The 25% EOFY Family and Friends discount offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other monthly access fees discount offer."

  • anyone ordered and how long does it take to arrive/activate? I'm porting my number from an optus reseller, vaya.

friend of mine is keen to signup through me, but obviously this has to be done before the 2nd June!

    • i'm keen to find out too. My plan expires on the 29/06/2017 and I would be bringing my number from Telstra.

    • Sorry, I just posted this further down the thread but to answer your question … it takes ages! I signed up on Sunday, received notification on Tuesday that they had received my order, then on Wed they sent notification that my order had been sent to the warehouse for processing. Haven't heard anything today, but I assume it'll get shipped today (hopefully!), then it'll take a few days to get to WA, so mostly likely won't receive it till Monday (unless couriers deliver on weekends??)

I called them and asked about setting up another phone but they can't do it until the account is activated. The account can't be activated until the phone is in your hands.

      • That sucks. I have 2 friends wanting to Rego through me for a $100 credit but I can't generate a referral code until I've activated mine and the offer ends on the 2 June. MEH!

        • Fear not!! The order tracking site clearly doesn't work properly as a courier arrived with my phone this afternoon. So, moral of the story is don't trust the tracking info they send you!

  • My plan with Voda expires in Aug, however at such a good deal, ill break it to go with this…. at close to the end of the offer period, providing OPTUS don't pull it for misuse…

  • I signed up online (ported in from Telstra) on the weekend and just received the contract via e-mail. The section for the 25% discount on the contract says "25% Access Disc = $0.00" … does anyone else's say this too? I'm assuming it's because the discount starts on the second month, but surely it should be listed on the initial contract as the total discount over the 24 months?

    • I ordered my phone through the website on Sunday. 4 days later and it still hasn't left the warehouse. So much for "express delivery" :-/

  • +1

I was previously on a postpaid plan (was out of contract). Went to several stores and they refused to help me out and swap from post to post, despite the contract already ending. Went to an Optus store in Melbourne CBD and they got me to pay $10 for a voucher to port back to prepaid. They gave me precaution that the process could take up to a week to change my bill status (from postpaid to prepaid), as I was looking to take advantage of the Samsung S8 15GB deal that ends June 4th. The process only took less than a day and got friendly staff to transfer me back to the new postpaid plan, proving it can be done for new customers as well as re-contracting customers, you just need to ask the right people!

    • Which store is this?
Did you use the online link to signup to the deal or did you do that in store?

      • +1

Went in store and redeemed using the supplied code.

Got my plan changed on Bourke Street and bought my actual phone in Chadstone, but I'm sure the people at Bourke can sort you out.

        • Thank you very much @Oatmealpat.

        • Thanks again. I got mine converted to prepaid and then signed up for this offer. I was able to get all this done via online chat. I always thought I needed to port out. Thanks for posting your experience.

    • Let me get this straight

They transferred you from Post to Pre, then back to Pre to Post on the same day with the pre to post deal + 25% discount??

Unfortunately, you will NOT get the pre to post deal with the samsung S8 (15gb + $4 handset credit = $85.00 per month).

      Why?
A customer needs to be with Optus prepaid MINIMUM 3 months to be eligible for the pre to post offer with that Samsung S8 deal. It states it in the T&C's of the pre to post offer.

  • EDIT: Working now. Ignore me

  • +1

Signed up for the 12 month SIM Only plan for $30pm with 12GB of data and I just got an email from Optus with my 'contract' which shows I'm on $40pm with only 10gb of data? Anyone else get the same?

The Optus website only shows a 12 month SIM Only plan for $40, and it includes 10GB with 2 GB bonus. I don't think there's a $30 for 12GB one. Also the 2GB is extra bonus so it will not show in the started Critical Information Summaries pdf.

      • I'm staring at the website right now and it clearly says 30pm for 12 months (after 25% discount). I'm on mobile and can't send a screenshot but it's definitely there. It even says MOST POPULAR.

        • Yes, you went through the discount page portals which will show the discount price.

Optus will have referral links for customers to click on and the price will reduce in cost depending on the offer.

          This also happens to;
          - Optus Uber Driver referral links
          - Optus Student 10% student offer site HUB

      • Official Optus website will only show the original plans costs. If you go through the referral links then you can see the discounted plan costs.
But after signing up, the welcome email usually mentions the 25% discount.

      • I did live chat and he told me extra bonus will show up until you reach to 10gb or will not charge extra 2 gb. Not sure it's true or not.

      • @nirik:

Would you be able to take a look at my post from 20 mins ago on this thread? (Bottom of page 4 on mobile).

        Thanks!

    • Just the typical Optus scam, they will tell you that it will be applied 2nd bill.

So essentially they are making an extra 25% for the first month of everyone's plan, which is nothing to scoff at if you consider how much customers they have.

Even though it says nothing about that in their contract they will do that.

They even tried to pull third bill on the people who signed up for 25% employee friends and family. (first bill 'upfront' - wat, 2nd bill first bill, 3rd bill 2nd bill)

The bonuses don't usually show in the contract or critical information summary, they will only show in 'my account'.

      • -1

Takutox, I do understand where you're coming from, I really do, and it's how customers interpret the wording.

The norm is a 24 month contract with a handset, but the offer does not state it's for the contract life span. The offer is for 24 months, and this is where wording and phrases become very important. The offer is complimented when purchasing a contract.

        • +2

Nope. This extra information (that it will be applied from 2nd bill) only shows on your current EOFY contract with phone plans on the landing page, but not the SIM Only plans, nor did it show on the Click Frenzy or Employee Discount plans.

You have a 'minimum total cost' which is impossible to obtain. If someone was to bring it up against an ombudsman or even a false advertising investigation even based on wording and the order page/confirmation, you would lose 100%.

Your minimum total cost takes into account the fact that the first month is discounted. For example, for the previous deals such as Click Frenzy, Employee and even this EOFY deal you state that the minimum cost is $1626 over 24 months for a plan that is $67.75 after discount. For both Click Frenzy and Employee, nowhere did it state that this only applies from the 2nd bill onwards. However you charged us the full price for the first month by default.

Or for example, your minimum total cost for the $30 SIM Only plan for this deal is $360. Your wording ONLY says the 'bonus data' will appear by 2nd bill. It does NOT say the discount will appear by 2nd bill. It even says on the checkout page TOTAL UPFRONT $0 and amount per month $30. But I think these are going through okay.

In many cases you will charge the full price for the first bill unless the customer complains, multiple times, through every avenue.

It's bloody false advertising and I'm annoyed that you are even coming on and defending this practice. There is actually no wording (at least for the previous plans and the SIM Only plan here) stating that the discount will only be applied 2nd bill and nothing to say that the discount is delayed, and the discount even shows at checkout and on the temporary order as being implemented immediately.

Hopefully everyone gets the right price straight away this time. But I've see they've patched the loophole on their phone contract plans with a small statement on their landing page that it would be applied 2nd bill as well as in the order FAQs, probably too many complaints.

HOWEVER this still doesn't change the fact that the 'minimum cost' is impossible to achieve (clear case of false advertising and overcharging), and that the 'summary of charges' already shows the discounted price. If we were to go by 'wording', the discount could 'show' by the second bill, but it is definitely APPLIED by the very first order along with your minimum costs.

You're not allowed to display one price (clearly $67.75 per month summary with a minimum cost of $1626) and charge another.

        • @takutox: your first two paragraphs pretty much nail it.

        • @takutox:
Yes. Very dodgy optus practice. I was charge 110 first month on a 65 plan ( or 48.75 after 25%off)
What suppose to be 48.75 per month become a much more costly plan. Their explaination is : its a 1 month upfront and a full first month charged. Very misleading from optus

    • Yes Chael, this is the case.

Technically you signed up for a $40 plan w/10gb data but the offer is 25% and an extra 2GB data.

The CIS document Plan ID: 800640, will state $40 and 10gb data which is the default plan.

Though, in the backend, the systems will recognise that you signed up for the 25% and 2gb data and the system will adjust your account accordingly to what's advertised.

When your bill prints, you should be charged $40 but less 25% discount on the 2nd or 3rd page but your total due for the plan will be $30.

  • +2

don't forget after signing up and getting your first bill switch to paperless or you get a $2.20 fee.
its a pain to find the option too (of course it is makes it so less people will do it)

    just login into your dashboard.
click on the "View Details" next to the "pay bill" button.
on the right is current bill settings and go to the second one "How do I receive this bill?" and hit the edit and switch to paperless.

  • how do i get my referral code? sorry for the noob question. I'm a current Optus customer who recently signed up with the first 25% off.

  • How can you track if someone have used your code? Do optus send you an email or sms?

    • Click your link…

    • +1

You get an SMS stating someone used your code when sales processed your code. Might take a few days, I got mine approx 3 days after someone used my code.

  • Is it for mobile only or can be for broadband internet?

    • Mobile services only

  • +1

This is only for Mobile. Either SIM only or Phone + SIM but post paid only!

  • My contract says $85 with no mention of 25% is this normal?

    • +1

Yes, the discount is applied on the 2nd bill onwards. You should see the discount on your second bill.

      • +1

Cheers, I'll assume they've done their job then.

        • +1

Did you do it in a store? If so, go to any store and you can tell them to check if the code has been put through to your number. Either way, if the discount is not there on the 2nd bill onwards, then you need to call customer care and they will raise a 'marketing escalation form' to see what's up.

        • +1

          @hasher22: Cheers again

        • +1

          @FabMan:
Just signed up. The discount is no where to be seen in the contract. However, the guy in the shop showed me the screen with the code and applied it in front of me. Although the system accepted the code, he told me he's not 100% sure it could work though as I combine this with data deal + 128GB for 32GB iphone deal.

  • +1

IMO, don't let Optus get away with dodgy practices charging you extra for the first month. It might not seem like much but they are taking away $10-$20 from every customer who signs up.

    • Checkout page clearly shows per month charge as with the 25% discount
    • Minimum total cost is impossible to achieve as it gives you the amount after discount (e.g. $1626 over 24 months).
    • Subtotal monthly shows $67.75, nowhere does it say they are allowed to surcharge you for the first month
    • Discount will 'show' on second bill does not mean discount will be 'applied' on second bill.
    • False/misleading advertising and misleading prices

Even the rep here has admitted the wording is set up to scam you. However even with the supposed wording it's super dodgy and wouldn't stand under legal scrutiny. I wouldn't be surprised if they do this on purpose to get extra money as issues such as this have been popping up consistently for over 10 or more years.

    • takutox

I never "admitted the wording is set up to scam you". The wording is clear and precise, also there is an FAQ section to help customers further understand how the offer works.

A 24 month contract and an offer that lasts for 24 months are two different offers.

      • +1

I just praised optus in my first post as a new customer whos come across for this new deal. I certainly hope that the first month is not at an inflated price because i will be calling optus immediately and give them a chance to rectify the situation, but if that doesn't go well next step will be the ombudsmen immediately. I don't bother messing around like i used to. Otherwise happy so far.

      • +1

You are scamming your customers, no ifs or buts. Even more so during previous promotions where these terms weren't even stated.

A minimum total cost that is impossible to achieve is scamming. Clever wording that doesn't clearly state you will be charged the full amount for the first month is scamming. Telling your customers a postpaid bill is an upfront payment is scamming.

A subtotal showing the 25% less amount per month in the promo, then the order, then the checkout, then the email order confirmation showing nothing but the less 25% price is scamming

blaming wording interpretation is also a copout scam and given all the evidence you'd lose instantly 100% of the time against an ombudsman.

Doesn't matter how much you downvote me doesn't change the fact there are whirlpool threads dating as far as 10+ years ago showing your company has engaged in this deceptive practice for a long time and you are scamming people.

        • +1

          PROOF: http://imgur.com/a/yDBQ3

Scam 1 - Item page - $67.75 per month, 3GB bonus data 'for the life of the plan' $1626 minimum if no addons (which these people haven't)
Scam 2 - Charge Summary After Selecting - $67.75 per month, $1626 minimum if no addons (which these people haven't)
Scam 3 - Shopping Cart and total minimum cost $1626, per month cost $67.75 (no addons which cause them to get charged extra first month)
Scam 4 - Subtotal - $67.75 per month and total minimum cost $1626 (no addons which cause them to get charged extra first month)
Scam 5 - SIM Only Plan Subtotal $30 per month
Scam 6 - EMAIL CONFIRMATION - Order Details $67.75 per month, $1626 over 24 months (no addons which cause them to get charged extra first month)
Scam 7 - 'FAQ' (not even terms, not legally binding) that only appear on this EOFY phone contract (not SIM Only). Does not clearly state anywhere that first month will be charged in full, only that the discount will 'appear' from 2nd bill. Not to mention, this did not appear on previous deals and is a new FAQ.
Scam 8 - Customers being told on OzBargain that the first bill is 'upfront', even though it is a non pro rata postpaid bill to be paid upon a due date as per normal.

This is a very, very clear case of misleading advertising.

  • Lurker for a few months now, finally got a deal that i have pulled the trigger on. Joined just to say Thanks OP for posting this deal. Vodafone couldn't come close to matching despite netflix and sport streaming etc not being included. Wife and I both paid to get out 3 months early. I got a s8 plus and wife got the iPhone 7 plus. Both very happy. Getting my mum that $64 s8 deal if possible.

    • Hi mate, Optus allow you to keep the Voda number?

  • I registered on Saturday, they sent me an email requesting for a scan of my driver’s license on Wednesday and I haven’t heard back since. I’m missing out on $100 referral credit because it’s taking too long to process.

Would I be able to expedite this by heading down to an optus shop today? Get my account setup and sim handed to me?

    • To answer you question: yes, you can go to an Optus store, give them the reference code and they will sign you up in-store with a sim card. The store will go through their processes for this offer.

      • @hasher22:

Would you be able to take a look at my post from 20 mins ago on this thread? (Bottom of page 4 on mobile).

Too good of a deal to miss out on.

Just signed up to the $30 Sim Only plan with 12GB data, unlimited talk and text for 12 month contract.

    Don't care about international minutes.

Unlimited data free Spotify comes in handy.

Big jump from the $40 Freedom Plus Telstra prepaid plan with 3GB data, unlimited talk and text.

Hopefully the network has improved within the last 5 years since i was last with Optus.

    • How has it been since you signed up? With Telstra also paying $50 P/M for 10GB and unlimited calls/texts.

$30 is such a good deal.

      • +1

Ordered online on Friday, sim got delieverd on Monday.

Got disconnected on Monday from Telstra as port over was sucessful. One day without network coverage no big deal as i swapped to the Optus sim as i got home.

Speeds are just a bit slower than Telstra in Melb, according to Speedtest app.
Some areas i sometimes get 3G but still usable.
Plays HD Youtube and Facebook videos fine.

  • Has anyone been able to use this deal with the current, 100GB Mobile Broadband on Optus Month to Month $70 Per Month?
Just want to know if this would be a possibility or not?

    • +1

Ignore this, Just seen that someone else already posted it.

  • Applied for a sim plan from Optus on the 29/5. Received an email with a temporary order number, and stating

    "SO WHAT'S NEXT?
It will take up to 48 hours before we'll send you an order confirmation email that you can use to track your order"

Heard nothing. Chatted on line today to be told there are no details in my order and I have to start again.

Where have my details gone? Which include my DOB and Drivers licence details. Not happy.

  • With this discount , should i buy ipad2017 with 128gb or that old tab s2 with 64gb ? The price is almost exactly the same

    • I took the deal using a referral code from the wiki page and my Optus SIM is activated and I've registered for an Optus 'my account'.

I'm now trying to register to generate my own referral codes so I can refer my wife, but my number is not eligible for the program according to the online page offers.Optus.com.au/eofy.

Optus customer support say it's a targeted program and I'm simply not eligible but I think they were just guessing and didn't want to/couldn't find out for sure.

Anybody else been able to get referral codes after signing up with one?

  • I signed up for a 128GB iPhone 7 for $72.75 per month. This plan includes a $9 handset repayment fee (which means I get to keep the phone). I signed up at an Optus store and the rep had little knowledge about this promotion. The website is misleading as I assumed that the discount is applied for 24 months, but turns out it is applied only from the second month.

  • If it helps anyone else - I've been on a Telstra $50/month sim-only plan (7gb data + $1000 calls and text) for the last year or so, waiting for something tasty to come out to replace my aging Galaxy S6.

I didn't really want to switch to Optus, so both went to a Telstra store and tried on the Telstra online chat to see what offer they could counter with.
Beyond the $90/month friends & family plan - that's all they could offer. There was simply zero wiggle room for them, even when I suggested I'd sign my wife up at the same time if they came down.

So yeah - don't hold your breath for Telstra to come that far towards matching this kind of price.

    • $90 was inc the S8 deal in which case I would have jumped if I was you and you wanted the handset, otherwise they should have offered you a SIM ONLY $90 plan with $20CR for $70 a month. Its an offer they can so

  • +2

Looks like Optus jacked up some handsets price,S8 was $85+$4, now $85+$9.

    • May as well go for the $75 plan with 20G data

      • these changed that to $80 pm for the 20 gig plan

  • I've read through comments and can't see this mentioned, but useful as I was hoping this would happen. Optus have extended the additional data inclusions from 4/6/2017 to 2/7/2017…. yay, as my Telstra contract runs out end of this month and I'll be jumping on board this before 25th.

  • is the 25% discount apply to optus NBN?

  • Seems like these plans are changing daily - now under $60 with 7GB data??!!

    • ya i saw this too. very keen to signup today.

  • Hi Guys

Has Optus increased the cost of the S8 ?

Seems people were getting that 10gig deal for $67.75 pm but when I went to have a look today its now $72.75 pm

  • Looks like Optus is also inspired by ebay price jacking.

S8+ on 10GB plan which was 100$ and now 105$

  • I suppose there is every chance that the influx of orders from this community and maybe others have lead them to believe that its not a true "Family and Friends" offer, so the figure lets twist this in our favour.

When Telstra did "Family and Friends" it was heavily audited - OPTUS just says.. meh… go for it. Maybe that is testament to their network and loosing foothold in the Industry.

I have also heard Rumours about data going very cheap, if not unlimited by the end of the year and with the addition of TPG into the game, i suspect Optus are doing this to get as many subscribers as possible in and locked in a 24 month contract before the whole mobile landscape changes at the end of the year.

    My Thoughts anyway….
