  • Anyone using this as a Kodi box?

S912 got voted D for do not bother as far as Kodi is concerned: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=255686&pid=2424791#p…

      • Thank you!

    • It has Kodi on top of Android. There is occasional stuttering when playing movie. I suggest you get the previous general chip, S905 or S905x, that has a reset button (usually at the bottom) so that you can flash Libreelec image Kodi which played files without the stuttering.

      • Thank you as well.

I'm looking for a half dozen boxes to play video in various rooms of the house and at my mother's house. I can't afford/justify 6 $500 boxes but if I can find something under $100 it might be possible. Tired of using 10+ year old laptops as media players.

    • s905 or s905x chipset boxes are much better for Kodi, S912 chipset doesn't bring much for video support, useful for android games playing though.

    Was looking good until:

  • How does this compare to the Mi Box that was featured in a deal recently?

    • +1

MiBox runs Android TV as opposed to Android. should be superior user experience. I have 2 MiBox's and am very happy with them both.

      • Just throwing my +1 in for the mibox. I'm using it as a streaming player for netflix/youtube/torrents - with the latest firmware and kodi, plays everything I throw at it, and can't really fault it.

Those other non-TV android boxes are largely a waste of money.

        • Are you streaming movies in 4K? I've been looking for something to watch them smoothly.

        • +1

          @Emphasise:
I got one of the mi boxes last week, its an awesome piece of kit. I've streamed Netflix 4k, 4k local content from plex server, runs kodi/exodus/prosports all flawlessly. Couldnt recommend them enough. Advantage of mi box is that its official Android TV 6.0, not standard Android 6.0 OS like this and nearly all other boxes on the market are, so has built in chromecast as an extra. Can sideload android apps if you need.

Love them so much so I bought another 3 yesterday, along with 3 'cheap' android boxes for $34aud each delivered (running rockwell 3229 chip)

        • +1

@Emphasise: I'm only streaming 1080p - best to ask in/search the whirlpool thread about 4k, pretty sure there are some people there with 4k netflix.

    US$70.48 with an AU plug

Hey OP. Change your price to reflect the aud price not USD. Not much of a deal. Can be found elsewhere for cheaper

  • Stick to a Mi Box for Android TV.

  • Is it not worth spending a bit more and getting the cheapest nuc that can handle 4k?

  • Can you watch Netflix on this?

  • mate, it's US$ -28.17 for the coupon, not
    $25.82 shipped?

  • Overpriced mate, if you want to do a promotion and posted here on ozbargain.
I bought two of those for $58 each three months ago.

  • Does Telstra AFL App run OK on one of these??

    • Hopefully someone answers, I also would like to know if it runs the NRL app. Can someone do us a solid and try it?

    • i have a mibox. I side loaded the Android AFL app, and get ERROR_PLAYBACK_FAILED when trying to watch live matches.
