Been looking to get a new dishwasher and found some great deals on Appliances Online ebay, with already discounted price.

Models I looked at were:

Bosch series 2 SMS40E08AU Freestanding RRP$849 , $584.8 delivered (Choice recommended) ,
Bosch series 4 SMS50D08AU Freestanding RRP$1099, $687.65 delivered (product review 4 stars)
Bosch series 6 SMS50M28AU Freestanding RRP$1299 , $823.65 delivered (product review 4.3stars)
Bosch series 6 SMU50M05AU underbench RRP$1399 , $798.15 delivered (basically same as SMS50M28AU)

In the end went with Bosch Series 6 SMU50M05AU for:

  1. Cheapest midrange Bosch dishwasher made in Germany (others are made in Turkey or Spain, or you need to pay for the higher end models)
  2. Series 6 models has more program features, better water/energy rating and stainless steel inner tub (some lower-end models are made of plastic, but doesn't necessarily mean they are not good)
  3. Underbench design (fits my existing kitchen better, the freestanding could be installed with the top removed)
  4. Good reviews and consensus for Bosch dishwashers
  5. Appliances Online delivers free and removes the old unit - saves hassle of borrowing a ute to pick up the new unit and dump the old one, to me that's worth at least $80 of time and effort

  • Do you need a plumber to get one of this working?

    • +1

Definitely not if you are replacing an existing machine. The hoses are hand tightened or use a hose clamp that can be tightened with a screw driver.
If you have no tap under bench with a thread to connect the inlet or way to connect the waste hose, then a plumber would be required, unless you are confident fitting screw on adapters and things. I would do it myself, assuming the kitchen taps weren't soldered to the inlet.

  • We've had the series 2 for a couple of years and it performs pretty well. We usually run it on the eco setting with half a scoop of powder.

  • I can vouch for this dishwasher. I bought it for a good deal a little while back ($950). This is even better…!! I did my research and I'm very happy with it.

    • That's good to hear! I was still second guessing myself last night whether to just go with a series 2 and save the extra $200, but hopefully made in Germany quality should last longer and the extra savings from better energy/water efficient will cover the difference in the long run.

      • Yes definitely spend the extra $200. Well worth it.

  • ahhh… it doesnt deliver to Perth…

    • try their website, if it delivers on the website, it should via their ebay store. Give them a call , I remember seeing some of the ozbargain members had this issue and the rep came out and said: "However, if you want to buy from one of the eBay excluded regions but our website states that delivery is FREE to your postcode, you can definitely contact us on 1300 000 500 to organize an eBay order (essentially our people will make sure that your eBay order can be delivered for free)."

  • made in Germany (others are made in Turkey or Spain,

    Whats the difference?

    • personal preference, I prefer made in Germany over made in Turkey/Spain if the machine has similar features for the same price (ie.Bosch series 6 SMS50M28AU vs
      Bosch series 6 SMU50M05AU )

    • I bought the cheapest made in Turkey plastic inner bottom on 3 years ago, use every two days and hasn't skipped a beat. Save your money IMO. Also have a friend who has had it for 4 years also no issues

  • Just worth adding Bosch dishwashers are the most reliable (other than Miele who cost way more).

    • (other than Miele who cost way more).

Miele don't cost that much more, for not much more you can buy a Miele.

Miele also last a lot longer, we have one that is over twenty years old and we use it five times a week or more and it works perfectly everytime and looks like new inside.

  • Wish I could buy this, but just can't justify as our old Bosch is still going strong with no issues whatsoever. It just works.

  • Asko?

  • Phew, just picked up the last one of the SMU50M05AU.

Was sad I missed out on the SMP63M05AU - a slightly higher but superseded model in the series 6 range that didn't last long at the ~$860 runout price. Happy with this lower and cheaper but current model too though.
