The Good Guys option is some good bargain maths 👌

Btw why would a first induction install cost over $1000? Are there extra steps for the electrician? I’m in the market for my first now on a new kitchen build.

They require a fat electric wire.

God help you if you need a supply upgrade because you have an old house with like a 40 amp feed in.

    • +4

Induction stoves have high amp ratings. If your current circuit isn't rated high enough (distance & cable thickness), then it'll need to be rerun from the board…

    • If your induction stove only needs 10Amps of power then yeah sure u don't need electrician and can just plug it in wall like a portable induction cooktop

But the reality is that all these 10amp ones are gonna be so slow and not ideal, hence why they not used at homes, rather at least 32 amps ones are used ideally.

And it's not a rocket science that if you pass more Amps than wire s rating then what happens?

Now is $1000 for install justified or not, idk I ain't qualified to answer that, but does seem a bit high IMO, but so may be the work involved for rewiring, upgrading panels, wires gpo etc.

  • Anyone knows what a replacement installation costs?
My current induction glass is cracking….

I'm guessing a few hundred for callout fee and half hour to an hour for a sparky. If it's a simple disconnect and take old one out and reconnect new one it shouldn't take long.

Just make sure the cut out matches the new unit.

I had previously cracked a glass top of induction. We moved recently and got off gas all over again. I very very carefully did an additional 5mm cut out to flush mount the glass so that it's level with the benchtop.

It looks heaps better, should be more durable but you can probably only do it on wooden benchtops, and it would cost a fair bit if not diy.

Yes very good to remember that the standard sizes for cooktops aren't very standard and there can be quite the variation between "90cm" cooktops.

Went through three if these before AOL switched me for a Westinghouse which has been awesome.
The Bosch would get a burning plastic smell and fail.

I've had these for 6 months now, I've spilled minor water on it whilst cooking and still it hasn't left stain mark.

So far so good for running everyday, also great for old houses cooktop replacement I believe it uses less voltage/watts which is great if an old house's cooktop only has a certain amount small voltage/watt supplying to it.

  • Installation costs do depend. I wouldn't say most are over $1000, but if you happen to have a property old enough that the wiring isn't gauged for an induction then yes you may be up some added costs. Having said that I have installed induction in an 80s and 90s build and didn't have to upgrade anything so very strong YMMV - the only metric I could suggest is the older the house the more likely an upgrade is needed but you will simply not know unless you have a sparky rock up and tell you.

  • Installation costs depend on your home. Got an old switchboard that needs upgrading? Then that’s where your $1000+ cost comes in.

Need to run a new circuit? Not as much.

I just rewired my house and included provisions for an induction stove - we’re using induction hobs now and honestly, not sure we need a dedicated induction stove as the IKEA ones are doing the job. I take them outside for the frying, which is pretty convenient

  • I have a new house (4 years old)

I still need to pay over 1k for new wiring as its double storey

  • I've been running this model for 2 years and no issues. Unfortunately despite it being a 60cm and replacing a 60cm Westinghouse stove top, I was left with a gap on the side of the it. Bought some side trim to blend it in.
