  • Nice deal OP, need one of these for an upcoming trip. Bought two to avoid delivery charges, will give one to my travel buddy.

For those in a hurry this may be a bargain or those who want an all in one - much cheaper options on ebay esp for US / EU to AU plugs. I understand may not be of the same quality but the $1 one Ive had for 10 years works perfectly well with an AU powerboard attached and I havent burnt any hotels down yet!

If you are going to take a powerboard, the best (reliable and safe) solution is to cut off the plug, and wire on a proper one for your destination country, including earth pin.

I did that many years ago. In fact over the years, I have even kept a few overseas powerboard and put an australian plug on the end. Saves my visitors having to look for power adapters.

      • Just did this very thing on a cruise, used a cheapy with an AUS powerboard… My powerboard slipped through their scans, but some people were not so lucky.
I had a battery charger (portable battery fans) charging my eneloops, phones and kids iPads going at the same time…. Worked perfectly.

And if you're traveling across multiple countries? What about sleeper cabins on trains? Better to carry a few adapters for the region you're traveling in.

Italy has multiple different sockets including two small pins, two large pond and three pins. Using a plug that seems to fit may be unsafe, better to carry a variety of adapters.

Even better, attach a IEC-C13 connector, then you can use a standard PC/monitor cable in whichever country you go.

        • Pretty sure you can buy those off the shelf from computer stores. Luckily I got mine from an old work place that got rid of their server stuff.

  • Legend. Going to Japan and the USA on separate holidays over the next 3 months and this will be perfect.

  • Too many separate pieces to carry. Better to get an all-in-1 like the one here:

It's good though if you only need one or two different plugs for a trip as it's a double adapter as well.

Just so you know that particular adapter is a electrical hazard. If you are going to the UK make sure not to bump into it when plugged in.

      • Ohhh, thats a shocker. Cheap is cheap AND deadly.

        • After watching that, I shall be double checking all my adapters for earth continuity.

Wouldn't want anyone at home to have a nasty surprise.

      • I found that video a while ago and threw out all mine that I'd been using for years. Now I always take a good travel adapter and an Australian powerboard.

      • Geez. I've got quite a few of those. Going in the bin now!
I haven't used them as they break easy, but I thought I'd hang on to them to give to people etc.

        Glad you posted this video!

    • I've got two of those and can confirm they suck big time. Biggest problem is, these do not allow two pronged plugs to be plugged into it (ala laptops and chargers). It will NOT allow the plastic to be peeled back unless the earth prong is plugged in at the same time. Do not recommend to anyone.

      • Hi @bchliu

Which adapter are you referring to? The one OP has posted or the "all in one" adapter runamuck is mentioning?

        • Sorry.. I was replying to @Runamuck and his ebay special.. Those all-in-ones are horrible.

    • Too many separate pieces to carry. Better to get an all-in-1 like the one here:

You only carry the adapters that you require not the whole set.

I have this one from Aldi

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/274336

It came with all the adapters for all countries and works great, you can charge laptop, phone and ipad all at once.

    • Me, too - if you're not in a hurry, Aldi have them for sale about twice a year.

Plus 1 to take a powerboard as well
Plug in the adapter then plug the powerboard into the adapter then you have 4 AU sockets to plug all your chargers into.
The powerboards are that cheap you can toss it when coming home to save space

My personal preference is a 5 port USB charger from Tronsmart. Smaller than a powerboard.

If you can find a good quality Chinese powerboard with international sockets these are great because they have an Australian plug.

      • Only if all your devices are USB based.

  • Not sure how the adapters store, but this is much easier, IMO:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BULL-International-Travel-AC-Adap…

The adapters all click into each other to form a neat set, so less likely to lose anything.

You can get much cheaper versions of this (as per below) but they are cheap and nasty and don't have a proper earth pin

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-US-UK-AU-EU-USB-World-T…

    • You get a little bag to keep them all in =)

    • "You can get much cheaper versions of this (as per below) but they are cheap and nasty and don't have a proper earth pin

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-US-UK-AU-EU-USB-World-T… "

Yeah, Not only does that lack the earth pin but also it looks like you can plug a UK plug into it upside down and with only one of the live pins in, meaning that the other pin live pin is just hanging off to the side for anyone to touch.
Sure UK plugs are meant to have shutters, but I highly doubt this does.

  • Thanks OP, heading overseas soon and have been looking for something like this for a while.

  • I've had one of these for about four years now and it's still perfect. The only thing I would want now is a USB adapter on it!

  • Damn sold out.

  • I picked this up at an airport for $39 I think. Its a good adaptor although all the pieces are a bit annoying.

  • i own one like this (not the same brand though) and i love it
    https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Travel-Adapter-plugs-Charge…

the adaptor has folding/pushout plugs (not sure if these are a hazard as mentioned above) and 2 usb ports. i would like a second one - but the last few family trips its been one adaptor for all of us - and we made it work!
