Have a look at Foxtel via Telstra. There is a 12 month contract but the monthly cost should be a little lower.
I am just after the freebie !
@51ngh What do you mean? Are you planning to cancel after 1 month and keep the box for something ?
@twitch1979: Box remains the property of Foxtel I believe.
@twitch1979: Can you keep the box ? I was just after the free service for a month. They will obviously take the box away if I cancel …
@51ngh: I would saw they will certainly try to take it back after the free month.
@jimmys: That is my understanding also.
Yayyyy, free ads.
$135 per month if you forget to cancel!!! Does ANYONE actually willingly pay that much for a subscription?
Thieves!
I know a few people who aren't tech savvy that do. Probably the same people that have mortgages with the big 4 banks.
Yeah my parents pay similar to that! Plus they still use the original box that was supplied from about 20 years ago..You press a button to change the channel and about 40 seconds later it responds..Told them so many times to cancel or at least get the box updated for free..They don't like change much..haha
Let me guess, 'then we have to learn a whole new remote'
My mum says stuff like that hahaBet a logitech harmony would blow their mind.
"Fees paid monthly in advance and cancellation occurs at end of monthly period. Cancel fees apply."
Anyone know what the cancel fee would be? I would think no contract and then cancelling should free to cancel?
Cancel fee is $135 as well….
Kidding, I don't know
Whats the point? Cheaper alternatives abound..
Is there anywhere I can purchases Fox Sports as a standalone package?
They are the only channels I would like to get but with Foxtel I have to purchase a standard package in order to add those channels on as extra.
Foxtel by Telstra currently have a deal for Foxtel + Sports channels $35 per month
Cheers for that mate.
Had been with Telstra for the past decade for our broadband but bought a house at the start of the year which only has access to Optus HFC, bugger!.
I pay $60 for sports + hd but no docos, movies, entertainment, UK etc. Platinum is the top tier so I guess they slog you extra $15-20 for each additional package :/
I pay $60 a month for everything (HD Included) except movies, give them a call and ask for a better deal
Given the nbn is coming over hybrid fibre, is there any advantage to having a foxtel install done now and for free?
I was on the free Platinum HD for 3 months. Called Foxtel yesterday and got it down from $135 to $99. No contract
$1200 a year
Can you get this deal, and then after 1 month revert to regular+sport for about $50 a month?
Yes
Not sure about reverting, but I believe you might still be able to get Regular + Sport for $35 using this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/256251
Do you need to already be a telstra customer?
Yes, you would need a $2 Sim. I'm sure they will send you one for free if you called up
I really just watch AFL, EPL and NBA. There are cheaper alternatives with a slight compromise on quality of course.
AFL - free AFL Live app subscription if you're on Telstra, or use the Crownbet app. Can Chromecast this.
EPL - existing optus mobile or broadband, some plans give you free EPL, or borrow your mates login. Can Chromecast this.
NBA - majority of the games are free via the William Hill or Bet365 app. Can Chromecast this. Requires a small deposit, arbitrage the bet if you dont want to take a punt on that deposit.
How do you Chromecast it from iOS?
AppleTV or try this https://www.techjunkie.com/mirror-iphone-chromecast/ which I just googled.
Apple TV doesn't work, my Chromecast doesn't work. I've been trying to find a solution for this for some time. Your link also won't get it working as you can't stream AFL live online from a PC unless outside AUS.
As far as streaming direct from an iPhone/iPad using your AFL Live subscription from the app - I believe this is impossible on a stock device. Have read that you can "Mirror" your entire device if you jailbreak it, but I haven't read any reviews whether the AFL App will work like this.
How do you watch your AFL?
Thought you could mirror using AppleTV via AirPlay? Thankfully I've moved on to Android since the iPhone 4, no issues Chromecasting from Android.
@Kuro: Yeah doesn't work when you fire up the AFL app unfortunately
@dazzywazzy: It does work (been doing it all season), you just have to make sure you hit the 'mirror' switch, rather than just streaming to the Apple TV (like you would YouTube etc).
@dramiante: Ahhhh Ok. Can I ask what version of Apple TV mate? Also is it free data streaming it on the Telstra device? I just jumped onto Optus as I couldn't get it working, but will switch back if I can get it to work.
If you got a htpc you can login to their website. Also haven't tried installing this on my dodgy Android box. I can really recommend the fetch mini box for five bucks more a month though.
@dazzywazzy: I have both the Gen 3 and the Gen 4 - seems to work for both. A bit confused by your comment though - you have to be on wifi to be able to stream to an Apple TV - so free data streaming doesn't really apply?
NBA - majority of the games are free via the William Hill or Bet365 app. Can Chromecast this. Requires a small deposit, arbitrage the bet if you dont want to take a punt on that deposit.
really? whats the quality like?
Decent, similar to AFL Live quality or slightly better as theres less camera movement in NBA compared to AFL. (larger field)
I can't get any decent internet at all where I live just mobile internet, so foxtel is good…. Until I can get fixed wireless nbn
Used the online chat and asked about the cancellation. There are no fees as long as you cancel within 30 days of the end of the month. So, basically, you have to call up and request to cancel the day after the sign up. I'll try it for the month, but, I'll cancel it the day after it is installed.
Many more deals will appear as the AFL and NRL seasons end…less demand for Foxtel sport entering into Xmas season!
Hi guys I will admit without shame
First I went with foxtel from Telstra 3 months free full HD platinum package then when that expired we cancelled and sent the box back and signed up with foxtel with Harvey norman who also had the deal on when that finished sent the box back and went direct with foxtel and got another three months
So, so far so goodPfft, amateur. You missed out on the additional 2 month trial extension with Telstra.
I pay $35 for get started and sports package through foxtel through t box.
I pay $35 for get started and sports package through foxtel through t box.
Pretty stupid when you have to pay to watch ads, I remember a time where it was just no ads which made it good value. not anymore.
Beware people, I singed up on the 7 of this month for their 1 month free trial platinum HD package with the foxtel IQ2 and got them to throw in a standard box also for an up front cost of $15. The terms were, No lock in contracts, no setup/install fees, cancel anytime before the end of the month for free. Even upto the day before your first billing period begins. Hence (FREE TRIAL). I tried it for 15 days then after reviewing their packages online, decided that It was going to end up costing too much for the programs I actually wanted to watch so I wasn't worth it for me. I packed up the boxes and called them to find out how to send it back and cancel the free trial early. This is what I was told. I was on a 12 month contract and if I was to cancel, I would incur a $300 cancellation fee. I made it very clear I just wanted the free trial from the beginning and was assured more than once on the phone that I could cancel any time free of charge. I can't believe they would pull this on me. I requested an investigation as my initial phone call would have been recorded and was told that it would take ten days to get a response. After I told them this was completely unacceptable, they tried to sweeten the deal and throw in packages for free. I told them no. As if I would stay with them after pulling this on me. Who in their right mind would take on a 12 month contract when they were offering the 1 month free trial. Well now it's basically my word against theirs and am going to fight them all the way. I have also taken photos to the box and contence to be used as evidence if they try to claim anything was missing. I hope to use this post as evidence in the event they say I failed to terminate my trial in time as its only been 15 days thought the one month trial period. I just can't believe this is happening. They are you best friend when you sign up then become your worst enemy.
Shesh, wat crimms. Sorry to hear it, I was considering getting this deal setup at my dad's but sounds risky now. Hope you get it sorted.
Just to let people know also, if you want any of these channels, then they are add on packs. You get the absolute minimum with the $26 standard entertainment pack. The rental for the IQ is also not included in the $26
Extra standard box - $15
sci-fi channels, a&e, comedy - $10
Movie channels - $20
Same channels again in HD - 10Your looking at $80-$90 p/month for it to even be worth while or your better off with free to air
The $26 standard entertainment pack doesn't even include a single movie or sci-fi channel and allot of the 40 channels are just news and weather…
OK after reviewing the terms and conditions I believe I see where I have gone wrong here. There was never any mention of the word "trial" (I guess I picked that up somewhere regarding the foxtel play offer".
"No lock-in contract" is still a contract after all. There is no mention of a cancellation fee but there is one and was lied to on the phone when signing up, leading me to believe that my interpretation of the offer was correct when in fact I was way off. I guess I fell right into their word jumble and misunderstood.I guess I only have myself to blame.Foxtel have responded and admit to a mistake being made and have rectified the problem. They removed to contract and we're very flexible on their terms. I am very happy and satisfied with the outcome so thank-you foxtel
I think it might finally be time to pop my Foxtel cherry !
