All in low def I believe. To get watchable content, need to add $10 a month I believe. Hope I am wrong as otherwise it would be a good deal.

    • Good point. It still says +$10 for HD, so $45pm if you want HD goodness.

    • Yep, the regular $51 indicates SD - $26 for Base Packpage plus $25 for sports.
If it was $35 for HD I'd jump on it I think. Can't remember if it's been 3 months since I cancelled my old subscription though hahaha.

    • Good point. Added to the description.

they've lost EPL so people are probably cancelling the sports package i'd guess hence the promo

    • I'm sure you're right but they're claiming to be able to show the replays of games of the bigger teams - Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham - after only a 10-hour delay. We'll see. The three beIN channels have been good so far too.

      • Honest question. Does anyone actually watch sports replays? Would they see that as an incentive to get the package?

        • +2

For the EPL, yes. For most of the season, games are at 11:45pm, 2am and 5 am on Saturday night/Sunday morning and 12:30am and 3am on Monday morning. I just can't do the 5am on Sunday morning and the Monday morning ones are not even close. I'm not sure how people with jobs where they need to concentrate handle the 3am Monday game. I suspect most people dog it like me ;)

Also, if you follow an EPL team, this is the only legit way to get all the matches played by your team in all competitions, ie. Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, Capital One Cup. Also Optus only have 290 out of 380 EPL matches on-demand so if you follow one of the six teams above, this might be the only legit way to see certain games if you miss them live.

        • Most of the games I wanted to watch last season were on at 4am so I would normally record them and watch them in the morning, so yes definately. Although 10 hours delay is way too long for me. If you wait that long after a game you have to wait for the game and make sure you don't find out the score! If you do, it's pointless. I'll certainly be jumping ship to Optus!

          @karlgr90:

I have EPL on Optus too. The quality is actually pretty good (at least with the HD content they already have on their site).

        • @dazweeja:

That's reassuring to hear man! Wasn't sure what the service will be like. My Internet with them runs out in September so not sure whether to wait and see if they have some kind of package deal!

        • @karlgr90:

That's tricky timing. If you sign up to EPL before July 31, it's free. After, it's $15pm. It would be worth checking your eligibility now to see if you can sign up.

And the usual after 12 months go back to the normal price or go the haggle route which i am sure with Telstra is nigh on impossible.
Good deal but they need to keep the price at that point or less including HD if they really want to get people for the long term.

  • I have 20 more days to go before the free 3 months platinum HD expires. Since No EPL and no HD, this doesn't look as a good deal for me.

  • Prefect for the last rounds and finals of AFL. Pretty keen, wondering if you need to recharge the prepaid sim each month to keep it active? Any ideas anyone? I'll call them this afternoon when I get a break at work.
I've already got a mobile and internet connection with another provider. If it's a once off $2 spend for the telstra mobile service then I'm in.

I opted for a 365 day plan, in which I did not do any sort of recharge

      • Got onto them earlier than expected and yep just paid $2 for the start up kit. No need to do recharges.

  • I'm currently paying $61 per month for entertainment + sports (+ hd) I'm off contract (I previously was on an intro which they raised after 12 months $50pm). Is it worth me ringing up them to try and negotiate it down to $50 considering others are now able to get non-hd package for $35 and HD package for $45? I haven't tried before and some people said it is worthwhile giving them a call every 6 months when you are off contract and they occasionally throw in a few months of an doco package or reduce it slightly if it's gone up. Would be willing to commit for another 6-12 months.

Yes. Ring up and say you want to cancel because you can't afford it anymore. They will give you a deal.

Last 2 months they gave me Entertainment, Sports, Kids and HD for $20

I really did want to cancel, but for $20 I couldn't say no

  • AFL almost over.
    No EPL.

    • True but does have La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, Capital One Cup, MUTV, LFCTV, Chelsea TV, etc.

  • Just paid my first bill after having the free 3 months deal $63 a month for sports + hd. Don't know why I am paying $2 extra a month could have sworn it was meant to be $61 might call and see if I can change to this deal.

  • Just phoned up and saved myself $25/month for the next 3 months so happy with that.

  • Feckers. My 3 month platinum HD expires tomorrow, I've already downgraded to entertainment + sport + hd…for $60/month. For $45/month I would commit to a year,

I'm only interested in Motorsport (F1, V8), so getting that knocked down to $35 is getting better, but I cannot help myself but think I'm getting thousands of shows on Netflix per month for only $12 in Full HD.

So the two channels I want (506 and sometimes 505) for Sport still seem like a rip off. Netflix has spoiled me.

Lord, I wish I could just buy those two channels in HD per month for say $10 or so. I'd jump.

Getting closer though….maybe in the future…probably not as there's plenty of people paying now I guess…….

  • Thanks OP. I was already on foxtel from telstra but managed to get this offer after going threatening to cancel.
