David Jones AmEx Credit Card - 30,000 Membership Points, $99 Annual Fee

100

Ok so I'm posting this one because I think it's a good deal for those who aren't on any Amex card atm, and aren't eligible for Amex Platinum Edge (which is a better deal than this IMO).

30000 Amex membership points if you spend 3 times outside David Jones within the first month of becoming a card member.
3 points per dollar spent at Supermarkets and petrol stations (around 2.2% return).
2 points per dollar spent at David Jones
1 point per dollar spent anywhere else.

$99 annual fee.
$29 supplementary card fee, waived for first year.

If you're after a card just for the initial reward points, this won't net you too much, as I value those 30000 points at around $220. $220-99 = $121 profit.

However, if you use this card for the generous points at supermarkets and for fuel, you can start getting some serious points.

You do all your shopping in David Jones? No shopping with your card at a supermarket, petrol station, restaurant, shopping centre??

  • 30000 Amex membership points if you spend 3 times outside David Jones within the first month of becoming a card member.
    can i buy $5 items?

    • 3x0.05c transactions should do the job.

      • I had this card a few years back. When I signed up, DJs Staff told me to use self service at Coles or woolies and break my purchase in 3 chunks even.

Don't forget that DJ Membership rewards points are not the same as regular Amex rewards points. The David Jones program points have half the value of regular American Express Membership Rewards when comparing transfer rates over to program partners (with the exception of Starwood). It’s confusing.

  • Had it for over a year, they waived the $99 fee for my second year, and gave me a few points to cover the second card too (called to ask). Great rewards, and points value is ~15k/$100.

    • Thanks for the info. Hoping to get the fee waived next year too.

Btw, isn't it 13000K/$100 with Amex membership points?

      • Was that, then it went up. Always does.
Points maybe 14.5k, gift card 15k from memory.
Still a lot better than my other cards.

  • Dont forget to use a referral link if possible. Seems like it's the same deal except another ozbargainer gets 45k points. Maybe OP can link to referral wiki?
BTW, I dont have a referral link for this card, so I'm not trying to get benefit…

  • Their are also referral offers for DJ cards if you want to help a fellow Ozbargainer out.

  • Can anyone confirm the exact profit when redeming the points for Coles or Woolies gift cards? Thanks.

    • Would like to know this as well

  • Is this better than amEx?

  • Can you get both the non-Platinum DJ card and the Platinum DJ card (and get both sets of points)?

  • Original deal (same benefits) was posted awhile ago, but this is a dupe. See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/196335
