54.5" Platinum FHD LCD TV $399 @ Target - IN STORE ONLY

670

Usually sells for $599. Previous low was $419.30. As a cheapy it has exceeded my expectations, though you'll want your own speakers.

3 years warranty.

I've seen some stock recently at Tuggerah, NSW so it should be available elsewhere.

    • +3

No it won't be. In store price will be the same as online. They have just not updated the tags.

    • i called again they not picking phone.. did u check if they will match online price?

      • +4

It will be the same as online (that's how Target have always been with these clearance items). The stickers/tags in store are just not updated.

You'll be lucky to find any stock though.

      • The person firstly said we do have some stock and then she scanned the price is $599, online only special that's what I've been told,

        • it's probably a different model.

this is the item code they need to check —> 58396032

        • @CVonC: I didn't mention model name to them but 138cm and about 54" only. I rang 4 stores in ADL late this afternoon, no luck.

  • how low can a 55" tv go I wonder

    • $349 for the Onix I got.

      • +7

That's only good value if you can evolve it to steelix

    • +2

Vertically? Not less than 55", but if horizontal maybe a few inches

      • +5

It can go much less as TV's are measured diagonally :)

        • +1

          my head: wooooooooooooooosh

  • Just contacted Tuggerah and they scanned it. Came up as $399

    • long drive from WA :s

      • Get the staff member to actually scan it, or do it yourself in store. I'm sure the price is national.

        • i will move my ass and try to get it.

  • ime it'll scan in store at the online listed price. Often stores will still have the regular ticketed price on display despite it being reduced.

Cheap price for 55 inch tv. Wonder how poor the picture quality is, and how slow this tv is to boot up?

I found with these cheaper tvs they take like a minute or so just to turn on.

Not a smart tv so probably 15 seconds or so

      • Old CRT one I keep in the garage starts up in a 1 second. Less technology, less startup time.

  • +1

A very good option for the outside patio 'don't mind if it gets wet' TV.

  • Called up Southland Vic
Price is still ticketed $599 and is scanning up as such.

    • I hate target for this reason.

  • I'm happy with my $349 55" Onix from Target which I found by luck when I posted that $419.30 Platinum last time around. Much better PQ than the $399 48" Sonic and about on par with a $399 50" TCL. I'm guessing the Onix will be pretty much the same as this Platinum. Though don't quote me on that.

      Why not?

      • I dunno. Different badge but I guess same yumcha fillings ^^

Apparently the Platinum has the same firmware as Kogan according to a post in the previous thread.

I was just about to buy that :/

      • nah that's a smart tv.. more comments here

was talking about this deal from 2 years ago. but it's come up a few times too

  • Do these cheapies support CEC and ARC via HDMI?

    • Generally do for CEC. For ARC, usually just one HDMI port.

Best you double check the features in the manual.

  • Do these TVs record to USB ?

    • Pretty much all TVs do these days.

  • +4

The one in store is scanning at $599. Then I checked it is .1" larger - 54.6" and with different model number.

    • +1

Yeah exactly. This is clearance so all the people calling up the staff are probably scanning the newer model.

  • Would this be terrible as a gaming monitor?

    • +2

      YES

    • To elaborate on it… many cheaper TVs don't support 4:4:4 chroma subsampling which is required if you don't want your image looking like it was smeared with vaseline. Most TVs from well known brands support this (LG, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic).

      • Thanks for clarifying it. Backlight bleed bothers me, and I'd imagine this TV would be susceptible to it also. Ah well

        • You get what you pay for. I bought a cheap TV (from Aldi) and returned it the next day as the picture quality was really bad. I'm happy paying the extra for a Samsung or Sony. My Samsung works great as a monitor.

  • Any stores in Vic actually have this model?

    • Anyone find out by any chance?

I was carrying my tv out of the car while writing this

        • @davodinkum: Ah so it was: … about to drop my new TV ?

Glad to see it wasn't the last one!

  • Anyone locate some at this price in WA?
At that price it would be great to have on the wall outside.

  • The girlfriend bought this a long while back when they were introduced for 700. Not long later they were 550, every time they drop in price I cry a little.

However, it's been our main bedroom TV since like last year and it looks fantastic, this thing is a steal for even 500, let alone 400. The colors are fantastic, the refresh rate is great, we game on this thing so much and everything we throw at it just looks gorgeous.

    Cannot recommend enough.

    • very time they drop in price I cry a little

      are you crying now?

    • Do you use a soundbar with it? I heard the sound from the smaller ones, tinny …

  • I would like to know whether it can play any media file like mkv, rmvb, mp4, …?
What it the maximum external hard disk it can read? 3 or 4 TB?
Does it have only 1 HDMI & 1 USB port?

    • 3 hdmi ports and 1 usb

  • God damn son of a gun, that's a dirt cheap large high-featured television!

  • Have one reserved for pick up 399 is not a bad price

  • Anyone got one recently or at a store wondering how big the box is to take back home and i think this was with old plasma etc you had to stand them upright i take your ok to lie them flat?
As im sure they say it mess up the components inside but this may have been old tech

    • With plasma its because it has a glass screen. One bump, and the whole thing cracks. LCDs do not have glass

      • Cool just need to find out how big the box is to fit in boot of suv.

    VIC stock update:

    Forest Hill (Display only)
    High Point
    Melbourne City
    Broadmeadows

I just picked up the last boxed one at Forest Hill.

You'll need to call stores to double check stock as the list maybe a day old

    • Bummer none in the south east then

Anyone who wants one should go to the Glen! They have heaps! Here is the stock count I got at 2pm

  • Hey everyone.. Just picked one up from Target Stockland in Merrylands.. They have 1-2 more in the back.. At first they said that it was $599 but when I checked, the one they displayed is the PT5501LED.. The one on sale is PT5518LED.. If you want, you can go to the customer service or layby area and ask them to scan that peticular product number.. Thats how I got one..

    https://instagram.com/p/BHd_ttHDcFW/

The picture quality is decent.. If you're not a tv buff or a tv geek you wouldn't really know the difference.. But the speaker is meh.. If you want to crank up the volume, you'll actually bleed from you ears lol..

Really good deal for the price.. Go ask the customer service and ask to scan PT5518LED.. Don't ask for the 54.5" Platinum TV.. Cheers 🍻

    • just set mine up in the bedroom. For $399 and 3 years warranty, im pretty happy. Foxtel HD channels looking pretty good! This is coming from someone who has a 55" Samsung LED tv.

    • +1

Change the audio to movie mode. I find it helps a bit.

      • That is where i ended up as well. The default is bad.
Movie mode seems about average for tv inbuilt speakers.

I was using optical out on my old tv but this one doesnt have it. I just need to sort out an alternative to my amp now (old and has no HDMI)

    • How big is the box it comes in?

    • +2

I've had mine for a couple of months and am very happy with the picture - BUT - you should make some config changes.
The secret code for the full setup menu is MENU-1147.
That is, on the remote control, press the MENU button, and then enter 1147.
You can make lots of fine adjustments - but the main one is to disable overscan:
Picture Settings -> Overscan by Pixel -> Change the 4 numbers to 0/0/0/0.
(You can google TV overscan if you don't know what this is)
The sound - as expected - is bad - so use an external amp or soundbar, etc.
I would be curious to know what other settings you decided to change…

      • Thanks for that,
Changed the overscan for HDMI and DTV
Any chance you have a link to more info on what the other settings mean?
eg "power mode" and "hotel mode" are not exactly self explanatory.

Edit: i meant those 2 only as an example, i cant fine them one by one looking up the terms, just was hoping to find all of them in one spot :)

        • Sorry - no. If you do find any interesting settings that make a difference please let me know.

      • What is overscan who does it do?

      • Fantastic post mate! I disabled overscan on my Panasonic many years ago and never looked back. Many people don't realise how they lose some of the picture because of it.

    • Damn i rang up last week and the lady scanned it and said its 599, i should of told her to double check her stocks.

  • And out of interest where the stand sits whats the distance from one stand to the other and weight of tv

    • About 16kg. Not sure about stand distance as I wall mounted mine

  • Picked one up yesterday. Bargain!

Apparently there were still plenty at glen waverly and waverly gardens, call to check if you are still chasing one.

  • Does anyone else fund the changing with remote a bit annoying i have mine sitting on tv unit and if im not point it right angle it does not work most tv's dont have same problem.
Im not saying its not working just need to make sure i more direct when changing.
Im suprised i never broke that part as had it standing on the bed before flipping it over to install legs on tv not knowing that the part you change channels from on tv sticks below rest of tv.
Its not broken and i glad its not but easy done as never seen a remote sensor part stick below the bottom of any tv before so just a heads up.
    Well worth 399.

  • Any idea if this would fit in a Ford Falcon boot with the back seats down ?
