NAB Credit Cards 15months at 0% on Purchases + FF Points Bonus

180

NAB are currently offering 0% on PURCHASES for 15 months on their entire range of NAB credit cards. If you can get a decent credit limit, it's a great opportunity to sit some money in your mortgage or purchase something large at 0% interest. Cheapest card (no frills is $30per year), but they also have both Qantas and Velocity earning cards which both offer signup bonus Frequent Flyer points which work out at about equivalent to the cost of the annual fee for two years when used on a domestic flight.

The FF cards all come with an AMEX and VISA card and you can add a second cardholder for no additional cost to ramp up extra points.

The Velocity Rewards Premium Card seemed to work out the best for me based on my annual spend and the value of the FF points when it comes to earning and spending them. Results may vary though.

I wouldn't normally recommend a card that you pay a fee for, but the 0% on PURCHASES is a rare find. Also should be pretty easy for most people to then Balance Transfer this amount to another card at the conclusion if you wanted to extend your payment period.

  • I applied for it and got one but the credit limit they have given is very less. Anyway, still it's very good deal.

    • I applied for a 0% platinum card and was told if you do not currently banking with the NAB, they usually only offer $6000 limit on a platinum card.

      • I applied for Flybuys card and got 7000 credit limit.

        • Seems like a decent deal. how much do you think one has to earn to have a $20000 limit? What sort of proof of earnings did they ask you?

        • +1

@Charity: I am not sure on what basis they give the credit limit. My friend who earns 30K lesser then me got 10,000 credit limit and I got 7000 credit limit.

Also, they don't need any proof of earnings.

  • So does this mean i could pay the credit card after 15 months of purchasing items? Even thou the interest free days is 44 days?? Dont you get charged interest from not paying in your due date for this month?

    • yes, this is what this deal is about.
revert back to standard interest free days after 15 months

    • +3

You need to pay the minimum due amount every billing cycle.

  • Can i add this deal to an existing card?

    • i would also like to know if you call up will nab give this offer to existing card holders? also if you apply for a new rewards nab card you need to spend a certain amount before getting the bonus sign up points can you request the 0% b/t later on after paying off the minimum spend?

    • This offer is available to some existing customers by balance transfer, although a 2% fee applies.

  • Saiandkid: (I wasn't aware of this limit for new customers.) I am a NAB home loan customer and got a limit of 10k, and I do already have a few other cards). Maybe if you don't get the limit you're after, consider applying for an increase after a few months?

Fritzsticker: Yes - it is interest free on purchases for 15 months from date of card activation. You will still need to pay a 'minimum payment' each month, but can leave the remainder of your balance sitting on the card and not pay any interest on it until the 15months is reached.

Putnum: I believe it is only for new credit card customers, but you could always call up and ask.

  • note "A one off 2% balance transfer fee applies." thus not really worth it for me. however its 0% for purchases too? i wonder if the 2% fee applies to unpaid purchases or not?

  • Coolsteps: regarding minimum spends, I don't think it applies to this offer. It just says 'when you make an everyday purchase within 90 days*' regarding the points.

I think you would need to apply for the BT at point of application. I haven't/wouldn't balance transfer onto one of these cards, as the power is in 'earning the extra points' through your purchases and then not having to pay them off immediately. There are plenty of other cards that are probably better suited if you just want to BT.

  • Coolsteps: Yes, that's why I wouldn't recommend BT for this card, however the purchases are treated just as regular purchases with no extra fees incurred (other than the Annual Fee).

  • Canstar has a heap of 0% balance transfer cards with long interest free periods and low/no annual fees.

  • I wonder if this would also apply to BPAY bill payments?

  • I can't say as I haven't received my card yet, although I would assume that BPAYments would count as part of general purchases. Will let you know when I get it.

  • Just applied… Waiting for my card.. How did you guys find out what your credit limits were??

  • That part was strange. Didn't get a confirmation of the amount or an email or anything, just a text message saying it had been approved. If you already have Internet banking with them, you can login and it will show up under your accounts there, otherwise you may need to just call them with your application number maybe and ask?

    • Ah i see.. I have never bank with nab before.. That must be the reason why..

  • Just thought I would add this. If you are refinancing your home loan or applying for a new one with nab, you can pick up the nab qantas rewards card with the $250 fee waived for the life of the loan, get 20k FF points plus $1500 cashback. Broker only.

  • I missed the due date on august 1.. Did not check my email.. What next? Just paid the minimum can instill have the zero interest for 12months?

    • Ooooh.. Not sure in that situation. Worth a phone call to clarify? Assume they will charge you a late fee as well… (ask if you can get it reversed as a new customer/gesture of goodwill).

To add to what 'Oldbugger said'. I had an existing homeside loan with them (about 2 years old) and asked to have the credit card linked to the account for the fee waive.r They took about a week to get back, but were happy to apply it.

      • Thanks apric, emailed them now.. I will wait for their response.. For now i have been using my other credit card to help with the offset..
