the mali400 just refuse to die even in 2016 chips!

  • Will I be able to use a browser to log into a wifi gateway with this?

I tried cheap 4k players. lagging is horrible. high res is freezing. so I gave up, and bought a branded player. I think the market is still catching up with 4k technology. need to wait a bit

Was that on 1080p or 4K? How did it go with 720p? I use chromecasts and Roku and PS4 but want something for work, but I need a browser to get logged in to wifi for the possibility of using my plex library. Am I dreaming?

they work fine with 1080p, kodi, Netflix, but the problem is android support, this comes with 4.4, will never see 5. they tend to offer newer versions of android with newer versions of hardware …… no money in supporting old product.

Have you considered a Raspberry pi 3? Has inbuilt 2.4Ghz wifi.

You could install Raspbian and run Plex through the browser. With a bit of fiddling you could also install xmbc with Plex add-on for a full client. You might even be able to install PHT but I haven't checked recently.

I used to use ps3, ps4, chromecast and wdtv for local plex, all have been replaced with raspberry pi 2 and 3s running rasplex (no browser available tho), second to none as far as plex clients go, low power, THE best codec support and cheap.

        • (no browser available tho)

I need the browser to authenticate wifi login. No worries. I'll probably just use an old laptop.

        • @Flyerone:

          Yeah I know :)

I just meant Rasplex is the best solution for dedicated Plex client but it doesn't have a browser. So next best would be running Plex on top of Raspbian which has a browser so you can still authenticate your wifi.

    • Which branded player did you get? Nvidia Shield?

  • Lol the coupon brings it down to about the same price as Geek Buying is without a coupon.
Can guarantee when this deal expires, the advertised price comes under US$30

anything wrong with ordering EU or UK plug?
seems to be cheaper than US plug

ooops… code doesnt work for EU or UK.

    got end price of USD$26.21

    Add Avatar
    Confirm email for additional 20pts

    • I usually go for the UK plug over the US. The UK pins seem to plug into adaptors more tighter and firmly than the US plug which often seems to fall out, in my experience.

    • Fyi… i bought off mobile website.

However…. i opened and logged cashrewards.
      Opened everbuying logged in
Then opened up mobile website logged in

      Today… i potentially have 4.8% further off.

      Under $34Aud of it works

      • However…. i opened and logged cashrewards.

It will get declined further down the track. You've used a coupon that's not on their list, therefore cashback likely wont pay

        • Potential further 4.8% my friend.

Extra couple of clicks that took up 60 seconds or less?

Don't mind if it does fall through.

Suprised it logged at all as i purchased through mobile website.

  • Can this do digital audio out to a receiver that doesn't have HDMI but only coax or optical

    • Its right there in the linked page.
s/pdif is a standard feature of these android TV boxes, except for the small stick-format ones.

  • Just a very helpful thought. This box is very buggy

Monty/Becky: If you can do $29.99 (After sign-up, mobile, etc) on this box Beelink Mini MX, its the best box out there with lot of aftermarket firmware ROMs etc

    http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_258635.html

    • Sure I will ask them tomorrow.

      • Also try getting a coupon for 2GB model of the same box as well, 1GB is just not enough for these Android boxes. Thanks.

        • Sure will try my best.

        • You mean something like this?

          http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_349814.html

Ticks all the boxes for me too.

        • Hi regenade/batrarobin,

I have set a coupon code: Beelink for 1 GB and 2 GB AU PLUG model at price USD $31.99 and USD $49.89 respectively.

You can have further discount with sign-up and mobile site.

Thanks for your interest in our product.

          Becky

        • @everbuying:
Monty/Becky, can you also please send me a coupon for Beelink. I'm interested in purchasing one.
          Thanks

    • NoooooOoo…
      I just purchased one

  • i have the MX plus II. great little box. great wifi connectivity. haven't tried streaming as I was only after a media player for a 2tb portable HDD.

  • I've been trying to research these little boxes, but they're a minefield in trying to choose the best value and specs for money.. Are there any recommendations about the Minix Neo U1 player. Anybody with experience with one of these and are they worth the money? Like, can it handle 4K without issues, inc 3D etc? Thanks!

    • Bought one from geekbuying last month. Until the update to lollipop it didn't recognize ntfs drives. It does now, and general movies from the hard drive play well in 1080p. The 4k I have to sample are not smooth enough to test. The problem I have is the 3d movies, whilst the box can recognise them and ask what format sbs or over/under, my panasonic tv cx700 doesn't detect it as 3d.
I bought it mainly for 3d and x265 tv. Turns out an xbox controller is plug and play and it has become a 2nd gaming system primarily minecraft for my son

      • Ok, thank you heaps for the feedback. From your comments, I shall continue the quest in search for the best available UHD and 3D supported media player (without lag etc). Such a shame, as I had high hopes for this unit - Price seemed reasonable and the reviews seemed to state everything was great with it. Oh Well - Thanks again! :D

Can I use this to watch Telstra's AFL Live on my TV?

  • +1

    I have it.

    Pros
it works for plex streaming and netflix and show box when i need it to.
    price

    cons
laggy even with only one app open but no lag when watching movies and streaming works fine though.
no off button remote seems to basically lock the device like you lock your smartphone have to pull power cord to get it to reboot.
I downloaded google now launcher which seems to randomly "forget" that i selected it as always use so it pops up asking which to use google now or the standard launcher.

Despite the cons it's a great little device for what i bought it for just don't buy it expecting to have smooth operation and to play games /web browser lag free id say strictly buy it for streaming/plex.
I paid $45 months ago so $35 is a great price.

    • Can I ask if you use Kodi on yours and if so can you get the resolution to more than 720p?

It seems that if you use Kodi, it is locked to 720p and appears to downscaling 1080p files. I can't seem to find an answer as to how to get Kodi to stream at 1080p resolution.

Looks like I will have to use the android video app and play these files of an USB drive.

  • I had this box and experienced no lag, I could even run an N64 emulator decently. Was to some degree buggy though, when I turned it off it would stop sending a HDMI signal but wouldn't actually turn off, the power adapter was faulty and I had to use a spare, I would get boot loops every now and then, it wouldn't work with my HDMI receiver

    • Does it work with those usb N64 controllers?

      • +1

I didn't try but I'm sure it would, they are standard gamepad devices, the Android emulator I used even had an option for it so I would guess so

  • Any Android TV box with a decent GPU for gaming? Looking to play GTA Liberty City Stories, a bit higher requirement than San Andreas.

  • Just a tip to anyone buying this. Kodi sucks as a player for some 1080p and x265 files (also being locked @ 720P output only), stuttering in quite a lot of places, even if playing off a local USB drive.

However, the native video player seems to play the above same files extremely smoothly. Also the native player appears to be able to transmit DD through HDMI to my receiver quite effectively compared to Kodi which can't do DD out.
