Found it - a Intel Core i3-5005U @ 2.00GHz
Clockspeed: 2.0 GHz
No of Cores: 2 (2 logical cores per physical)
Max TDP: 15 W
Passmark = 2885.
A fairly middling chip for the price, about 1/2 as fast again as the atoms now in the TV boxen, a 1366x768 screen and a four cell battery [ tho the low power drain of the chip make that not quite as dire as it looks.]
An 'ok' buy if you are short, but I wouldn't regard it as a great bargain this close to EOFY :-/add $442 extra
Yep, tho with HP you are paying a bit of a worthwhile premium for the construction and build, but why oh why are they persisting with the low res - the higher resolutions may not be noticeable when viewing video or whatever gaming you can manage on a lappy, but people use these thing mainly for text and data, when the sharpness really really does matter..:-/
@terrys: No more HP's for me, have had two completely die on me and another two with serious driver issues. They lasted past their warranties but I've had more luck with Acer, Asus and I even have an NEC from the early 00's that is still going strong.
I think its a great bargain at $437 for i3-5005U, 4gb, 1tb hdd laptop from HP
i3 processor (ultrabook ed.) is I believe better than an atom one (latest gen) in all areas except power consumption
HP is one of the leading Wintel laptop brands out there along with Lenovo, Dell etc.
For the price, its a very good deal for someone who doesn't want to spend more than $500 on a laptop
At this price and config you certainly don't expect high res screen in 14" laptopsIf you don't mind a pentium processor, you can pay $80 less for a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 which also has a 128GB SSD.
That is another great bargain from Dell with 11.6" screen (and not 11" from the sounds of model name) and quad-core pentium which is not very far off from i3 in terms of performance. Depending upon screen size and storage size or speed choose what you prefer.
Hmmm nice price but too bad its hp…
Im looking for a laptop for my mum.
At around $400 seems like similar specs would be good bang for buck as she just needs it to do email and a bit of web browsingI've made a laptop discovery lately. I use an old 14" Acer with a white keyboard. Off white really.
I also have an HP 17" laptop with a black keyboard. I have to turn a light on twice as much for the HP because it's harder to see the keys in low light. In future I will only buy laptops with off-white keyboards, if possible.
5th Generation core I3.?
I3's - in fact all of Intel's chips come with model numbers. I am having difficulty finding which model I3 this model has anywhere on the GG site, and it appears to be a model built especially for them.
I appreciate them not bothering our pretty little heads about such mundane features, but fear that some of our more cynical brethren may view it as a regrettable and possibly sneaky little omission.
