Agree, thought of posting to make the back to school shoppers like me save some $.
my hp printer won't let me use generics or refills. it won't even let me print if I have one full colour cartridge but an empty black cartridge. HP sucks
Hp is a scam. The ink they peddle is absolute garbage
Good lord. Do yourselves a favour and stop using inkjet printers. It's one of the biggest scams.
If you only need black and white prints (most people), then get a Brother laser printer and you will thank me later. I have a basic MFC-L2700DW and it has been AMAZING for over a decade now. The toner cartridges last for ages and are super affordable.
e.g. less than $30 for 3!

MFC-L2700DW Isn’t in stock anymore. Any suggestions for a mono laser that have a scanner and use cheap toner cartridges and possibly automatic document feeder?
I guess something like this?
Brother HL-L2464DW, Wireless Mono Printer/Scanner/Copier, 28ppm, Black/Grey https://amzn.asia/d/2gme2v4
Thanks. I looked at the Brother MFC-L2820DW for $270 as it has an automatic document feeder. ($219 @ Centre Com)
The toner TN2530 generic does 1200 pages for $52. I’ve been meaning to get away from inkjet
@J B S: Yeah cool you won't regret it
Stop using HP (and if possible inkjet printers altogether), for your own sake. Buy a cheap laser.
Wow downvote for not using a laser. Harsh
You can buy an Inkjet printer with ink as cheap as 18$
But that's how they get you. They loose money on the printer first, but make huge profits on ink. 37.0$ for Black and 41.34$ for colour toners.
If you DGAF about environment, keep buying inkjets for 18-25$ and throw away as e-waste once cartridges out. Otherwise, get a laser printer. These lasts for decades and you save money in the long run.
I personally think HP printers are a scam. Youtube " HP Scam " to get an idea why.
just got one at OW alexandria, $35.15, thanks OP
I have an older 8600 MFC and after market ink is cheap if you buy a set, but not if you buy individual cartridges
According to 3camels, this is pretty much the standard price on Amazon.
Then generics are ~$20
