Not even the cheapest grey import price. No deal here

    • -6

It's just a $1 extra from cheapest delivered price on your mentioned link. But at least you are buying this from an Australian brand.

      • +7

        Kogan link

This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited pursuant to the Terms and Conditions.

Wait, "Australian Brand"?? WTF does that mean when it's Kogan importing in Hong Kong products?!

      • +3

        Which bit is Australian?
The killed off DSE? The Kogan? The Nexus? Or the intl version ?

I was all for shopping locally and supporting local business…..but can't see much here.

        • +3

Lets be clear. DSE killed off DSE. Kogan just feasted on its rotting carcass.

      • +4

I didn't understand why Kogan wanted to buy DSE so it could put up things that are essentially on Kogan's website anyway. Now after reading this comment I do. I think Kogan sees that a lot of buyers (like you obviously) would rather get it from 'DSE' as opposed to other cheaper retailers, even though they are basically the same and are grey imports. And somehow you think that buying from this 'DSE' gives more assurance to your purchase.

        'Branding' somehow worth something.

        • -1

And the real 'Dick Smith' really shouldn't have sold a business that carries his name. The more people that will get annoyed at the Kogan DS, will be pointing fingers at him.

IMO it's crazy to sell a business which is purely your name.

        • 'Branding' somehow worth something.

You mean like Daewoo and Holden!

Daewoo - no-one buys the vehicles.
Holden badge on Daewoo - idiots fall over themselves to buy them.

Yeah it's real stupid to make million of dollars. It's not crazy just because you for some reason cannot tell the different between Dick Smith Electronics and the man Dick Smith.

I'm sure if you did a poll, like asking random strangers on the street, who they thought owned Dick Smith Electronics, the vast majority would think Dick Smith. Not Woolworths like it was until recently, and not Kogan.

So what? If people are stupid that is their problem. Using your logic Porsche is still owned by Ferdinand Porsche and Ford by Henry Ford.

What about Virgin Air? I guess they are still owned by Richard Branson and so is Virgin Mobile.

Jaguar, Mini and Rolls Royce must still be owned by UK companies as well.

          @Maverick-au:

Do you rip apart every comment you see on this site?

It's my opinion, deal with it, I don't need to justify myself to you and this argument is just stupid!

        • @Spackbace:

Do you rip apart every comment you see on this site?

Only the ones making utterly ridiculous claims like yours!

Your assertion that you should never sell a company that has your name attached because everyone will think you always own it is ridiculous. I guess you better enjoy your Nannas brand desert for dinner, you'll be in for a surprise when you find out that Nanna no longer owns it and the food is sourced from China.

  • i was considering dicksmith as registered australian brand and business. If not then all good. Still not a bad price :)

insert usual comment asking about band 28

Kogan is as Aussie as… The only thing Aussie about Kogan is the .au in his dicksmith domain name. And that site is just a reskin of his normal site…

    No deal here…

  • A worthy consolation prize for those who missed the recent $299 Moto X Style. Same SoC.

If this model no. is H791 then it is a deal. Otherwise this one is better https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246469

  • No band 28! Specifications on the website

    2G Network (MHz) 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    3G Network (MHz) 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
    4G Network (MHz) 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 26(850), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)

    • No model number, to make it even harder to work out.

How can any reputable (cough) site not put the model number of the thing they are trying to sell you. I'm so sick of it.

It's like the fine print about it being grey I wrote below - but this is even worse. There is no way in hell that an average person knows the difference between 'the 28 band' and eg. The Little River Band!

      • Ba dum tissshhh…

But yes, all they say is it's the "international model". I'm almost certain it's the HK version. When you think about it, anything from outside Australia is international, isn't it? Nice one, Kogan.

        • +1

all they say is it's the "international model".

          I didn't see that.
Oh, now I see it - it's a picture (further hidden under the 'Overview' drop-down) so find didn't pick it up. Any other hoops they want people to jump through?!

anything from outside Australia is international, isn't it?

That's no use either - even something made here can be made as an "international model!"
This just gets better and betterworser and worser.

Kogan buying the domain is just deceiving customers.. its just clone of his main website with 80% grey imports.. for the mum and pops they would have no diea.. he even still boast the "since 1968" banner.

    • My parents did exactly this 2 days ago. Oh, we will just get it from Dick Smith online. I said just buy it from Kogan, they said after one bad deal from Kogan, they would never buy from there again… smh.gif facepalm.gif

    • Exactly - it took me a while to find the fine print that showed it to be grey, and I knew I had to look for it!
What average person is going to look for - let alone find - that information?

And what's with this scraping of hundreds of reviews of products from other people's sites???

  • -2

Are you people really that ignorant! everything you buy in australia is imported ffs. You really think Dick Smith was/is any different? Its all rebadged Chinese crap.
He was the original Kogan. All Kogan does is take the next step and cut the middleman. Good on him.

Local warranty vs sending something back to HK. Chargers that are Aus compliant, not "generic" with adaptor. Products made for Australian networks. Sure, it's all imported, but there is a big difference between localised production stock built to Australian standards that carry Australian warranty to something that is a grey import.

      • Local warranty vs sending something back to HK.

The last time a friend had a problem with his Kogan-purchased phone, Kogan paid for shipping both ways to their local service agent. No need to send it back to HK.

  • Btw, wouldnt be surprised if Harvey Norman invented the term 'grey import'. Marketing speak.

    • lol Gerry Harvey has never invented anything, let alone Harvey Norman.
