80

Greetings all. Here is my first contribution to the Ozbargain community.

Virgin Money currently have TWO promotions running at the moment when you signup for one of their Visa credit cards.

Its been roughly a year since I've taken up the AMex 100K velocity F/F bonus. With my Amex coming up for renewal, I think I might give it a miss and go with the Virgin 50K deal.

Option 1:
50,000 Velocity points bonus on offer with High Flyer Visa.
$289 annual fee

Highlights:

  • Up to 50,000 Velocity points (10,000 bonus points for every month you spend $3,000 or more in the first 5 months)
  • $129 Virgin Australia flight credit voucher and 2 lounge passes
  • 1 Velocity Points earned per $ spent, with 10,000 Points per month cap
  • 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 6 months

Option 2:
30,000 Velocity points with Velocity Flyer Visa.
1/2 annual fee in first year ($65) - normally $129

Highlights:

  • 30,000 Velocity Point sign up bonus
  • $129 Virgin Australia flight credit
  • 1/2 the annual fee for first year, usually $129 p.a
  • 0.66 Velocity point earned per $ spent
  • 10,000 bonus points for every month you spend $1,500 or more in the first 3 months
  • 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 6 months

$15k spend over 5 months for 50k points! No deal. Also its not actaully 30k signup so you might want to make changes to your post.

    • That's 50k points for every month you spend over $3k. That means for $15,289 (give or take) you're getting 50k points. Good if you plan to make some big purchases, not great if you want to bonus points but don't want to spend that much.

You're right though, it's not a fantastic deal if that's the case. Unless it means 100k points on the table.

Which is quite a lot of spend. Amex Velocity Platinum has the same amount of points for less spend. Not sure why I got neg because frankly the deal isn't that good.

        • Yea I agree, not worth it.

  • Now that the NAB 60k point deal is over, I would wait for a better offer than this.

  • Sorry, no deal. Been way better offers than this… Not to mention having to deal with citi.

You can get 138k Velocity points by spending $2.2k with the Amex Platinum Charge

    • …but with an annual fee that is $1200!

      • Yea, it would be worth it if that fee wasn't the highest I've ever seen

        • The fee is probably the highest in the market but when compared to this deal of 50k points for spending $15k the ratio is much better

unlimited amex lounge access might justify the cost.. if you fly…every week..but then your status points alone should get you in another lounge away

Isn't the only Amex lounge located in Sydney International?

  • huge spend $3000 for 5 months, then the annual fee doesn't make it worth it.

$250 coles gift card is 45,000 points

so points value is around $410 if converted to gift cards.

  • Gift cards? Meh. On the other hand, 50,000 points almost gets you a trip in Etihad first class apartments…
