That is an amazing deal on the BES920 - it retails for about $1400

    • +2

Normally comes with a grinder for that price, but this is still an excellent deal.

    • +3

I bought this for $1300 about 2 years ago. The dual boiler feature makes startup extremely fast and if you get this along with the Breville grinder, it's the next closest thing to store made coffee. I actually prefer this to my DeLonghi which was bought for $2.5k

      • wow must love your home made coffee :)

        • +2

Yep, previously was buying 2x large coffee per day.. x 300 days = $3,000/year. Home coffee machine makes sense for those who buy out every day. Combine with a good flask and you're coffee stays hot for 12 hrs.

        • @overshopper: if you're putting your coffee in a Thermos, I'd argue that you are better served with a good filter machine, such as the Brazen

  • +2

Why so cheap, that's a ridiculously good price?

  • +1

    Shit that is cheap.

  • +1

Thank you - old BES900 just died and have been looking for a replacement. That is by far the cheapest price ever.

    • How long did your bes900 last?

      • About 4 years and it made a lot of coffees, could get it repaired but at this price I'll just get a new one. Couple of things I believe have been improved on the new one - and has a descale port.

        • Replaced my 15yo Quaha machine with one of these last year. Hope it lasts longer than 4 years!

        • Probably a bit harsh to say it's died - it still makes coffees but the pressure dropped right off. It probably needs new seals or something simple and a descale. The pressure gauge has been dead for a while - other than that it still goes.

        • -1

If it's only 4 years old, you're entitled under ACL to have it fixed or replaced. If you pay good money for a (decent?) coffee machine, it should be expected to last a long time.

        • Perhaps you should of got a product care replacement? It prob cost $100 and if it breaks within 5 yrs you can just swap it for a new one. In all my instances they just issued a full store credit and I just bought something else.

        • @mccracken: Damn that's disappointing to hear :-( I've got the BES860 purchased in 2011 for $650. It's never missed a beat. I make around 10 coffees a week and it's still going strong, as good as when we first got it.

        • +1

          @Powershopz:
I've got an 860 too and am tempted to upgrade at this price.

        • +1

@pax: Same. Tempted to get this for home and move my old one to my work office.

        • @Powershopz: Wow, same model and that's exactly what my rationale for upgrading was! I bought in and just received a call that it's ready for pickup, so all I need now is the grinder.

    • Just did the same, bit annoying that the BES900 didn't last all that long - probably only just cracked the break even mark on purchasing it.

My pressure gauge is a bit dodgy as well, but it still extracts.

Hopefully, the new model doesn't start breaking down after a few years, as all the initial BES900 reports were that it was brilliant.

      • You probably just need to give it a proper clean & descale

  • +1

How do you get 100 cashback since the breville promotion is only for the duo package and this is only the bes920 without the grinder??

  • All I can think is maybe at this price it does not come with the grinder as previous deals. (It may, just seems ridiculously cheap)

They did change the product coffee for the bundle with the grinder a little while ago.

But even if it doesn't, this still is the cheapest by far once you find the grinder on sale for about $200.

    • I do not see the grinder either. Must be just coffee machine alone.

  • Nespresso Citiz @ $129 appears to be only for the red model, ie. BEC600MR

    • I managed to get the chrome for the same price.

The first guy was pissed off and so rude, told me well I can have it at that price but they only have the display model then got someone else to serve me, they had 4 in stock.

I showed them the website on my phone, a chat with the 'live chat' who said chrome is only available in store but should be the same price, they also looked the website up on their computers and based on photos could only conclude it included the chrome version.

      • you did well & were fortunate you got staff that didn't know the pricing. The website made it clear that the Chrome version wasn't reduced. If they couldn't see it, simply adding each colour to the cart, would have shown them.

        • But the chrome version was not listed on the website and were unable to add the chrome to the cart. Price has gone up now by the look of it.

I just can't believe such a price difference when the only difference is a couple bits of plastic. That's supply and demand for you.

  • Awesome price on the BES920, I think I paid $1200 for mine which at the time was good.

  • Wow what a great price, I just paid $1115 for the bes920 + smart grinder combo.

$700 for the machine is so cheap, I think the smart grinder retails for around $250, so saving almost $100 for both.

    • it was 1175 last time via ebay with further cashback and this time it should only cost you $900 tops

      why did you pay $1115??/

  • That has to be a pricing error for the Breville 920. Awesome price if you can get one.

    • theyre having a 'coffee expo' this weekend, its one of their big deals for it

  • Yeah I'd have to agree that it does seem like a pricing error for the Breville. If not it's the steal of the millennium.

    • Not a pricing error - already have one in my hands and yeah that's what the store staff said!

  • Possible EOL for that SKU as they now have the Double Duo?

  • As seen in the Herald Sun. Does not include the grinder

Combination product is this one http://www.harveynorman.com.au/breville-dynamic-duo-coffee-m…

    • +1
      • Yeah, I was just trying to show it was for the coffee machine only.

        • Sure thanks.

But my point was $249 + $699 = $948 which is $381 less than $1329 (after cash back).

        • @zhenwen: Yes, you'd be crazy to buy the Duo option when it's way cheaper to buy individually.

        • @unity1:
Or just buy a different grinder! I love my Sunbeam EMO480..got it online from a mega special for 75

        • @zhenwen: the grinder has been on sale for a little cheaper (got mine for $199) a couple times as well.

      • is it better to buy the Sunbeam Cafe Series Precision Coffee Grinder from ebay Peters of kensington for 20% off?

      • +1
  • Is the Cashback available for this model (no grinder)? On the breville site it only states the Oracle and Dynamic Duo

    • +2

Would the Bed920 be much better than my rancillio Silvia? Understand it's a single boiler but waiting time isn't a problem for me.

    • My understanding is that in addition to the dual boiler the BES920 also includes built-in pressure control so that the shot pulls through in the sweet zone.

But seriously do some research plenty of info online about the features.

    • Once you go double, it's hard to ever consider single boiler. The startup time makes a difference I believe… waiting ages in the morning for that that morning drug can suck…

    • +3

I personally would feel the Sylvia would last much longer. inside it would be mainly all brass fittings and pipes and most importantly no circuit board. Both the em7000 and the BES920 have a lot of plastic inside there and most important a circuit board to the run the shot timings and The Lcd screen etc.

      • I have the em7000 dual thermo block……ultra fast start up heaps of steam. Love the price of the breville just not sure it would make better coffee or faster startup

        • +2

Same, I have the em7000, but just other day I did a descale and next day a part on the steam pump blew up. I fixed it myself with a new pump, but after looking at how much plastic stuff is on the inside, I doubt the machine will last too much longer. Yes big benefit is the quick startup/heat up. However I prefer an actual boiler rather than the thermo blocks

    • +3

      Yes.
It has programmable everything pretty much, whereas the Silvia is a single manual boiler.
The features I like about the BES920, in no particular order:
      1. Switches itself on at a preset time in the morning.
      2. Goes to sleep after a while if not used.
      3. Dual boiler. Brew boiler preheats through the steam boiler. Flat white in the cup in around a minute. can make a few coffees in a row without drama.
      4. Programmable shots and preinfusion. Programmable for shot volume or extraction time.
      5. Hot water tap
      6. Programmable PID controlled brew temperature.
      7. Large water tank, fillable through top or back.

    • In the short term, yes. The dual boiler is much better for milk drinks, though you can fit a PID controller to the Silvia very easily (to improve shot consistency and boiler temperature cycles) + there is a wealth of information available online. In the long term it seems as though 9/10 Silvias considerably outlive the Breville.

  • I still have my American Express $40 credit deal with David jones when spending $200. But it looks like online only - drat! David jones would have price matched for sure, but I doubt they can price match is their online store

  • Regarding cashback claim: All entries must be received by 11.59pm AEST on 29.05.16 to be eligible for the $100 Cash Back.

    • +1

You have 4 weeks to claim if it's 29/5/2016

  • I'm waiting till 9 so I can call HN and confirm, don't want the whole refund thing happening as a result of pricing error

    • Good call (excuse the pun). I wait in anticipation ….

    • Just called HN Alexandria, I reserved one for myself, they told me this price is ridiculous (he checked on computer, was shocked) and they don't think will last long. They had two in stock when I called.

      • +3

Sold! Temptation was just too much to handle … I bought one for store pick up :). Now to sell my sunbeam Em7000

        • I love my EM7000. So tempted thought!

        • Nothing wrong with the EM7000, but definitely getting the Breville will be the next step up. Thermoblocks are fine, but having dual boilers is better. Just get it and ask questions later ;)

        • +1

          @jazzymc:

gumtree is going to be flooded with EM7000's!

        • @jimmej: I just bought my EM7000 a couple of weeks ago and it is excellent. The BES920 is definitely a step up, but the EM7000 already takes up too much benchspace in my little kitchen, and i did get the EM7000 for $330 so can't complain too much!

  • +2

this is so cheap. can i buy this just to make tea?

    • +1

Haha. Yes it produces just hot water for your tea. Just buy it! You can make coffee for your guests :)

    • +2

This would be the most expensive kettle ever. You'd be better off buying a thermo-controlled tea kettle (eg. Breville Smart Kettle)

      • +3

id only buy it if its a bargain and theres bulk votes like this. thats the only way i know how to shop impulsively these days

        • haha… you and me and every other OzBargainer, both past and present.

        • @yojabbajabba:
Correction: You, him, me, and the whole of OzBargain…

          @SuiCid3: Fixed!

Don't explain with words just make a cafe quality coffee

      • Just make the coffee first lol!

    • "darling, so you can sleep in on weekends …. you can have your coffee in bed instead of us having to go out for one and wait for service"

  • +3

Completed the cash back online form. Very simple process, grabs the model from the barcode as BES920BSS which is confirmed in the T&C to be one of the eligible models.
Awesome that the cash back is straight into bank account and not a prepaid card.

    • Shit :( I put the actual barcode in (on the box) arghh!!

      • +2

You got it right. BES920BSS is the model number

  • After 12 months, I can finally make use of these. Got the cappacino art set.

  • On a related topic does anyone know how the grinder that's supposed to come with this match up against the Baratza Encore that sells for around $200 too?

    • There's a good crowd on Instagram (@socraticcoffee) that have pitched some units against each other.

Key is that they compared the big brother of the Encore (Preciso) against the Breville. The particle distribution is better (more consistent with more of the same size particles which in turn leads to a more even extraction from your shot) on the Breville unit. Mind you this was 1v1 (with the additional grinders compared too) and not all units are made equal so individual experience may vary. Not only that but the grinder itself has a better portafilter holder with a push start button where the portafilter handle docks. Additionally you get the benefit of a timed grind so once you're dialled in you don't need to estimate the coffee you need.

I have both the Preciso and the Breville but they suit different purposes for me. Breville for espresso and Baratza for filter brews. I personally think the encore is a little cheaper on build quality and feel but like the preciso and breville a lot!

Cool! Adding that to my Instagram now

        • Super interesting stuff. The guys there seem to spend more than the GDP of a small country on gear… lustworthy!

        • not much left to spend on after you have eneloops and SSDs …. now you sit back, enjoy a coffee and know you don't need to buy alkaline batteries again, and all your PCs boot up ultrafast……
