  • the HN store near me had no stock left but was taking orders and said about 5 days to arrive. Thought I'd try good guys for a price match on the way home …… they only have the bundle with the smart grinder, so no price match as different sku.
That's fine , I can wait a week, turned the machine on in store …… was hot in under 5 minutes and ready to go …… not as quick as the em7000, but more then quick enough from a morning coffee.
I asked about the grinder ….. they said if I order in store they can do a deal on the grinder ……
It's a chinese machine, not sure what the build is like, but I guess at this price it competes with the em7000. One thing I did notice ….. the new em7000 has a capsule button, was told it now comes with adapters for capsules e.g. nespresso

David Jones have 15% off the Breville Smart Grinder pro at the moment. Bringing it down to $254.96 when added to your cart. If you have an AMEX you can bring this down to $204.96 with this current promotion. https://network.americanexpress.com/connect/au/en/doe_offer_…

    • Amex deal is over which is a shame

      • Really? I added it yesterday to my card and it states Valid until 29/05/2016.

        • My bad, thought it was the 4th.

I just need to find someone with an Amex card

    • Cheers. I dismissed David Jones 15% off as I thought it only applied to coffee machines. With my AMEX this is a great price

    • hmmm and 6.3% pricepal. I hate David Jones website. Says in stock online for delivery however it isnt. Have to do a store pickup which is not ideal, but after pricepal and amex it would be $199.

    • Don't forget Davidjones 10% cash back yo

    • wheres the 15% off?

      • Add it to your cart to see the discount

        • ordered thanks

          they only have black

    • Just on this, a spent a wasted 2 hour trip with DJ's today. Order the grinder & paid online using the Amex offer. Get to the shop & they dont have stock & turns out the online version is the Non pro version, which they didn't even have in stock. They did have the Pro version in stock which was the same ticket price of $299 but only in burgundy. So in the end I got my money back.

      • That sucks. I picked up my grinder at DJs today after ordering online this morning. I definately have the pro version, sounds like they have stuffed you around there.

  • Thank u op!!! Been wanting to get this for a while and so happy I waited!

I went to Richmond HN last night and there were 5 left!

I ended up buying the machine, smart grinder and Sunbeam bang bang and 4 years warranty on both appliances for $1170, $1070 with cash back.

    Happy coffee snob!

    • Hey le3lee, mind if I asked who you dealed with last night? Just gave a call and this anti-ozbargain salesman said he won't honour the 4 year warranty for the machine for $99. How much roughly did you get the extra warranty for the grinder for?

      • +1

Actually my final price was $1199! i forgot to add the bang bang. If u have a look at the price sign the 4 yr warranty and machine bundle is $919. So the 4 year is actually $120. But I didn't see that sign when he worked out my price. He initially said he can do 4 years for the machine for 119, 799 for the machine, and the grinder with 4 years for $278 total being $1196. Then I negotiated to $1170 and he agreed. So really, we added everything up and he took another $26 off. Then I added the bang bang, and he was confused getting his sums right, so on the invoice the bang bang shows $20.

        • Thanks for clarifying! :D eventually got mine for $1177 without the bang bang and 4 year warranty for both.

        • @le3lee: BTW, did you do your cashback through this link? https://www.brevillepromotions.com.au/upcoming/dual-boiler-c…

        • @eviledward: yes i did.. the terms and Con is confusing. I also think i gave the wrong info..for barcode,i gave them the batch number and it still went thru. So i emailed them separately to clarify.

        • @le3lee: I also put the batch number. Where did you find the 'barcode' information?

        • @le3lee: did you find the barcode on the box?

        • @eviledward: yes the box!

        • @le3lee: Is the barcode number the 10 digits that come after the + sign? Or is it the 6 digit number that comes at the end of the P / B / S BES920 Breville ###### <—— ???

        • @Trishool:not sure what you're referring to. But I just gave them the bar code number from the box…hope this helps.

        • @le3lee: Sorry I was under the assumption that you bought the coffee machine from HN and all coffee machines from them of this model have the same type of barcode sticker on the box with the same format of the barcode number.

The box I have has a HN sticker on it with a barcode and other codes on it, there's no barcode directly printed on the box and I don't want to accidentally submit the wrong one and miss out on the cash back offer so just trying to ensure I'm submitting the right number.

        • @Trishool:suggest giving them a call to be sure. When I called them to clarify, they didn't seem too fussed about it and didnt give me a right or wrong answer.

        • @Trishool:

The barcode is printed on the underside (base) of the box (strange I know)

        • @gadget: Thanks! Found it (who prints the barcode for heavy items on the bottom?). Much appreciated!

    • Got BES920, Smart Grinder, and 4 year product care for both for $1150 at a HN in Perth. Special ends Sunday.

  • Just picked mine up from Watergardens, they said they have lots left in stock

  • Thanks Trent.

    Fantastic deal.

Bit the bullet - consequently, will be in the dog house for at least a week. Oh well, at least I'll have sensational coffee to drink whilst in the dog house :-)

  • How long should they take to process a click and collect order? I still waiting from yesterday with a store that had stock.

    • I ordered yesterday morning at 8am and was ready to collect within a few hours but it does say on their website if you order before 4pm it will be next morning and after 4pm will be the day after that.

  • Why does it now say:

    Ends 1.5.16
    $100 Cashback via Redemption

? Is that the sale end or the redemption end?

  • Purchased the breville. Opted for delivery. Much easier. Thanks ☕️☕️☕️

  • I paid in full and will pickup next week some time.

  • Got mine at Joondalup WA and it was the last one in stock. None at any of the other WA stores either. Evidently the ones on backorder are "best efforts" as Breville won't guarantee delivery. The extended warranty offered by HN is for a credit towards a new machine, not replacement or repair cost. Anyone want to buy my well used but good condition BES900?? ;-)

  • Thanks Trent, got one. They said only silver on special. There's no other colour for that price. Bought it with a $100 4 year extra replacement warranty for extra peace of mind.

    • -1

OzBargainers paying extra for a warranty that already exists due to automatic consumer guarantees?? The world's gone mad!

      • Please point out in the consumer laws where this would be covered for a total of 6 years? (The extra 4 years of insurance begin after the original manufacturers warranty ends.)

        • Yeah, I know. That's the biggest problem with the consumer guarantee. It's a grey area with the word "reasonable" being thrown around.
What's reasonable to me may not be reasonable to you.

"The business may take into account how much time has passed since you bought the product considering the following factors:
the length of time for which it is reasonable for the product to be used."

Personally I think it's reasonable for a coffee machine with a RRP of $1400+ to still be functioning in 6 years time.

        • @jesseb05:

Stretching the meaning of 'reasonable' doesn't equal a 'warranty that already exists due to automatic consumer guarantees'. You shouldn't be telling people that they'll be covered by the law when they won't be.

24 months give or take seems to be the standard amount of time under consumer laws. Which to me is reasonable.

6 years is a huge amount of time for moving parts, a lot of heat, pressure, liquid, wear and tear multiple times daily (potentially). If you're expecting every manufacturer to be covering their machines for 6 years I think you need to reevaluate your interpretation of reasonable.

The RRP doesn't dictate the warranty. The price is for all the extra features, the double boiler, control over every pressure aspect, research and design, all the extra materials etc. If you're paying $1400 for a pod machine then yeah I'd want to last 6+ years, but only because you're paying so much for such little value.

        • @jesseb05: Normally I would agree with you that paying extra for store provided 'extra cover' is money down the drain, given the statutory warranty provided under ACL.
But in this case the purchase of the additional cover makes logical sense, especially if you can negotiate a reduced price for the cover as part of the deal:

          • Firstly, the statutory warranty under ACL is based on how much you paid not what the RRP is. At this substantially reduced price a court is highly unlikely to assess that a consumer good like this has a useful life of 6 years, which is what you get with the extended warranty.

          • Secondly, the price of the extended warranty is based on a % of the price you pay and so in this case you get the warranty extension for a much lower price ((although of course, you are covered for the price you have paid not the replacement cost under the HN warranty).

          • Thirdly, the extended warranty is transferable with the product, increasing the potential second hand value of the machine if I was to upgrade in the future.

          • Lastly, and most importantly, a quick glance at coffee equipment/consumer forums tells you that consumer grade coffee machines such as this do have relatively high failure rates and have a limited life . Warranty coverage for 6 years for an extra $99 (the price I paid) simply makes good sense in the light of this. I cannot imagine a 'reasonable person' expecting (and therefore court providing) a full $800 refund or warranty repair in 2022 if the machine was to breakdown then, which is what you get under the HN extra cover.

        • -1

          @corbz:

You're right. I shouldn't be telling people they will be covered. Statement retracted.

Interesting to note in the T&C's that HN Product Care only covers minor faults.

          https://www.productcareclaims.com/files/file/212/10731_ICF_E…

          1. Your purchase of Your Product with Product Care
gives You a benefit in addition to Your rights under
the ACL, arising out of a failure in respect of Your
Product which does not amount to a major failure.
        • @jesseb05: You've read that wrong. That para refers to the benefits the HN warranty gives you 'in addition to' ACL, as they are now equired to do under ACL.
A major failure within a 'reasonable period' would be covered for full refund or replacement under ACL so the HN warranty in relation to repair or replacement from repair or failure within a 'reasonable' period is not something additional that the HN cover provides.

However, the HN cover absolutely provides additional full replacement or money back towards a similar machine for a further 4 years after the 2 year factory warranty expires for a major or irreparable failure. It is there in black and white on page 2 of the warranty.

  • Kudos to the fantastic chick at Harvey Norman Bondi Junction. Just picked mine up.
I decided to pickup from Caringbah which initially showed in stock and was reasonably close, but got an email later saying it's been put on back order. Called them, they couldn't tell which stores have stock, as the crappy system doesn't update in time.
To cut a long story short, after ringing multiple Harvey Normans and visiting my local which wasn't very useful, I confirmed Bondi Junction had stock and changed my order to pick it up from there.
She said she anticipated the demand and pre-ordered extra machines to cope. She also went all the way down to Coles to get me a trolley. Made my day. We need more people like her. I didn't know her name, but thank you for being smart and very helpful!

    • I hope you did not get screwed with extended warranty at Bondi junction.

      • The extended warranty on this product makes sense given the failure rate of the 900.

I would never normally buy extended warranty, but $99 is worth it in this scenario for me.

        • Bondi Junction screw you on the warranty for $99 they give you an additional 2 years not 4 years like other HN.

  • Went back and picked up the Breville Smart Grinder for $204 (price matched without evidence over the phone with the David Jones + Amex deal - even though their terms state they don't price match such offers).

$900 machine and matching grinder isn't too shabby.

  • Checked in at Garden City (WA's) JB Hi Fi earlier. Saw that they are selling this without the grinder at $1,429. So asked if they would price match. They wouldnt. Boo JB?

  • Not sure if anyone posted the link for the cashback yet, but this is the one yeah?

thanks OP, grabbed this from O'Connor Harvey Norman today after ordering online. Also grabbed the $99 product care warranty.

Turns out they messed up my order and had run out of stock, but agreed to separate the coffee machine from one of their BEP bundles so I could take home today. I said I wanted the grinder as well anyway, so they reduced it to $199 for me.

    • Nice work. I was going to try get the grinder for ~200 today too as RetroVision have it on special now for $215

  • This has been a nice upgrade from my ageing nespresso machine. Bit of a learning curve and some wasted coffee but am loving it. Thanks TRENT86

  • Just got the grinder from HN, price match for $209

  • +1

I bought mine from Maribyrnong HN yesterday, they seemed to have plenty of stock (says out of stock online though).

They automatically offered the 4 year additional warranty for ~$125, I mentioned that I had seen people getting it for $100. The woman had no issue doing that price for me.

Great deal, already had a couple of great coffees

Retravision Joondalup WA still have stock of this machine at $698 if anyone is interested. With $100 cashback it comes down to $598. I have just come from there.

    • Yes I can confirm BS920 for $698.60 + another $100 cashback at Retrovision Joondalup. I picked up the last one and promptly returned the other BS920 to HN which I has picked up this morning. $598.60 is an insane price for these! Very happy:)

      • So you are saying you claim the $100 from the one you bought from HN and returned it.

        • Hopefully you didn't return it and claim the cashback from the one you bought from HN.

Because you said another $100 cashback and made me think that.

        • No I didn't even open the box and i'm only claiming for 1.

      • Can you please post pic of receipt so we can try price match at HN. The only Retravision in Canberra closed down business :(

      • Please post pic of receipt. Thanks

    • Post pic of receipt please so we can try price match at HN!

    • wow im gonna call tomorrow and see if this is still available at any of the retravisions..

    • Well done!

Unfortunately I can't claim price guarantee unless it's printed in the catalogue.

Hi everyone, I already have this great machine, first a 900 then a 920 and picked up another 920 for the office at this great price, thanks OP. There is a couple of things you need to buy for the maintenance of the machine, cleaning tablets and charcoal filters, don't buy the genuine Breville one's buy the after market through eBay. Best price seems to be from US sellers. Bought 100 cleaning tablets a few years back so don't have a link for them handy however bought some charcoal filters a few months or so back, in an eBay % of sale as well and these were the cheapest, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/361285580385?_trksid=p2057872.m27…. there was another seller around the same price as well, but there could be someone a bit cheaper now however do a search and you will find they are a lot cheaper, even with the postage and cheaper than Tru Water Filter I have seen oz bargain posts for as well. Maybe Tru Water Filter will see how many people bought and will put a deal on.

  • anyone have any hints and tips for use of the machine? probably a lot of first time users in here!

stuff like increase temp from 93 to 95 or adjust settings to pour by volume and not time? I am finding a lot of my brews are too watery - I think possibly caused by not grinding fine enough?

    • +1

I'd suggest going to do a training course. I did that when I got my BES860.

https://www.tobysestate.com.au/store/espresso-school/home-ba… is the course I did and I believe they had the BES900 machines at the time, but I am not sure about now.

    • +2

      Watch some youtube videos :)

    • +1

If your shots are watery then usually that means you are not grinding fine enough. Use fresh beans (less than a month old) Get to know your local coffee shop/roasters and buy from them. Stay away from supermarket beans as they may have been on the shelf for God knows how long. I know it may sound obvious but read the manual as it has lots of great advice about getting the most out of you machine.

    • +1

      92 degrees for me.
Start grinding a size or two smaller. Pack. Check. Still too watery? Repeat.
Check pressure also that it is consistent. If it reaches 7 to 9 bar before coffee comes out you are doing well.

      Check out

Thanks for the responses everyone. Looks like I'm going to be wired for days doing some testing

  • Was anyone else's box missing the water hardness test strip? Alternatively, does anyone know how hard the water is in Brisbane and what setting I should use on the machine?

    • +1

Mine was missing. I use rainwater so no big issue for me

    • +1

I am in Brisbane and my indicator came up as a 2.

      • Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know

        • Although, I filter the tap water so that might make a difference…

    • +1

Mine was stuck to the Manual - But I have it. I'll Check my rating tonight - but I use puratap.

    • Mine was missing the hardness strip too. And have no idea what to put, I put 4 but that may be too high? In Melbourne.
