Would this be compatible with the gen 2?

They took the pogo pins out on the 2013 model. Replaced it with the wireless Qi charging.

      • That being said, i have both, i can attest to the pins being removed. But if there is wireless charging on the 2013 model, mine certainly does not work and has never worked. Just assumed it didnt have it either. Bit late to take it back for repairs… :(

        • +2

Have both too and 2013 certainly does have Qi charging

        • But if there is wireless charging on the 2013 model, mine certainly does not work and has never worked

There is definitely QI charging on the 2013. However I have found that the very cheap Ebay QI Pads will not work properly.

I have a Kogan branded QI unit that works fabulously well. However the MicroUSB connection failed and couldn't be repaired, so I have modded the whole thing to suit a 3.5mm Coaxial power connection (ie: original Nokia charger).

So, try a different QI unit.

    • Not gonna work. Already confirmed with hn staff

    • strange that places still have old stock of Nexus 7 2012 accessories, but none for Nexus 7 2013. (eg. this, and i have seen the old travel cover for the 2012 in dick smith stores, etc)

  • +3

This is actually tempting since the USB port on my Nexus 7 doesn't really work anymore. Although….I I can't think what I'd actually use it for now.

      Perfect bedside Radio/Clock

No Stock Perth and $15 delivery takes the edge off

      • Yep I use mine for a bedside clock as well.

    • I've had mine in a dock since new as a bed-side clock, media player [to BT speaker] and chromecast controller.

    • A new usb/headphone flex cable is only $4 on eBay.
And its still a good tablet. Keeps my kids busy with games, seems to perform well.

    • Same always have to wiggle it and charge on angles

      Still a useable toy tablet

      • Just install a new (internal) flex cable (cheap as chips) and it'll be back to new again.

Can't see any stock for pick-up in VIC.

    Delivery kills the deal

      "…Thanks to user Brownwyn Bishop…"

Is the dock is delivered by helicopter?

  • +1

I bought one for about $20 from an eBay seller in the UK a year ago. Guy literally had boxes of them. I wish I waited.

    • Don't worry, someone below said 15 bucks postage, you're safe still.

  • Blast! Both my sons have N7s, excellent tablets, no stock nearby in eastern burbs of Melbourne.

  • I love my Nexus 7 2013 I found the 2012 laggy after s few of the updates where as the Nexus 2013 is a much better device and I don't think I'll replace it for sometime.

    • Factory reset after the updates solved the issues for me.

      • Tried Roms cyanogen relashing and factory images it was well documented that memory was the cause of the problem on these devices, there were even apps to speed it up

  • +2

Thanks OP. Still use my Nexus 7 everyday.

    • And your slide rule?

      • But I do know one and one is two.

        • -1

It's actually window. But maybe because the nexus 7 is Android it gave you the wrong answer.

        • And if this one could be with you.

  • +2

that's if you can still use your Nexus 1st Gen…in between the freezing, lagging, rebooting itself…exasperating!!

    • +2

Tried reflashing? Or even a factory reset?

      • pardon my ignorance…reflashing?…Haven't done factory reset yet….got to make sure have backed up stuff. Have cleared the cache. No change. Put it in safe mode…got rid of some apps. When it's connected to wifi is when the trouble begins! I'd be super grateful for any help! Guess reset is the go?

        • +2

Reset won't do anything. Don't believe em.. It's all to do with the quality of the flash they used. There's possibly a memory leak problem too.

For those who are rooted/unlocked ParrotMod is a must have. It basically fixes ALL the slowness problems associated with this device.

(Those not rooted. I recommend reading up on it, doing it, and then install/flash ParrotMod.)

    • +1 can't agree enough. My Nexus 7 is better than new after flashing AOSP Marshmallow and installing ParrotMod. It's great, and I use it quite a lot now.

      • Any tips on rooting it? (guide you used or ap ect)

        Thanks.

        • +1

When I did it way back, I used Nexus Root Toolkit. BUT there is now a "oneclick no PC required" way:

          Kingroot

Download the Apk. Install it. Run it. Rooted.

Steps after rooting using the above would be to:
          * Install SuperSU.
          * Install a custom recovery (TWRP recommended). Can be done using Flashify from the Play Store.
          * Install the ParrotMod zip using recovery mode.

    • my kids have these and they are annoyingly slow.

Turning off location and auto orientation makes then usable but still slow. Thanks for the tip.

    • My N7 2012 is rooted but I'm not sure how to install the mod. Could you shed a light please? Thanks

      • Download the Universal zip in the download link in the thread. Copy to internal memory. Flash a custom recovery (TWRP recommended) (if not already done so). Boot into recovery on Nexus 7 and "Install" (select the zip, confirm). Reboot. Done. Will edit later tonight with more info. Edit: See my reply to Duff5000.

        • Thanks mate, that was actually the path I took, but for some reason the *.zip file could not be found in TWRP even though I could locate it in Android environment. I will try flashify tonight to see if I can install the parrot mod with it.

Would have been great if there was actually stock anywhere, not paying 3x the price for delivery.

  • Shipping totally kills it.

  • errr $15 postage and no pickup in VIC? no thanks

  • Stock available in Orange, Hervey Bay and Griffith stores FYI

  • Great! The dock will be the only useable feature of my nexus 7! I feel like going back to kit Kat with that tablet. It should beget have received anything later…

  • +1

I can't see the add to cart button. Is it Sold out?

    • Doesn't look promising. Though it's still showing as in stock in Orange and Hervey Bay. Strange.

      • +1

Yeah I can see that too but no option to add to cart

  • Any in WA HN?

  • You can come have mine for free, anyone in QLD.

    • I'll pay for the postage to SA…

    • I'm in Brisbane. Where abouts are you located?

      • Nothside wavell heights area

  • The website states it charges via micro-usb? Does that mean it doesn't use Pogo?

    • The charging port on the dock is micro usb, but the connection to the tablet is via the pogo pins.

You have to plug the wall plug in somewhere

  • Well damn…I'd soldered wires onto my pogo pins (just to compare charging times to via microusb which takes ~6 hours now). Saw this deal, desoldered the pins and a small area of the digitizer cracked…now I've got a dead spot and it's completely useless :(.

Anyone want a nexus 7 for really cheap?

  • +2

I have noticed that Harvey Norman have been charging rediculous postage prices. For example I found a small item (phone case) that was on sale for $1… $15 postage per item

    • Ever heard of flat rate before?

      • There is no flat rate price with them.. its charged per item even confirmed with rep

        • More than likely an automated process then.

  • Out of stock online now also.

  • dang, not showing on the website now.

  • Ordered yesterday for pickup at Erina.
Still waiting for a confirmation email that the item is ready for pickup.

  • +1

Anyone known how long Gerry Harvey takes to send the pickup email?

    • Got an email earlier today with a refund. Apparently Mascot was showing stock that wasn't there….

      • Im still yet to receive any email :(

  • My instore pickup order got cancelled! Anyone having buyers remorse? Happy to cover the cost and shipping.

  • Anyone want to sell their dock? PM me
