Vodafone Smart First 3G Mobile Phone $69 ($34.50 after Half Price Coupon + Bonus $34.50 Woolworths Dollars) @ Woolworths

2810

OK, firstly forget the $69. No one will pay $69 for this phone.

This phone is advertised in the current catalogue on page 25. When you purchase this phone you will receive $34.50 Woolworths Dollars (You will need a Woolworths Rewards Card)

Even at $34.50 the phone is still not worth it. But if you have kept your Woolworths receipts from the last week or two, you may have one of these half price coupons. The half price coupons are unique and will only work once.

This is now the good part. Present your half price coupon which brings the phone down to $34.50 (less if you pay with discounted wish cards). Scan your Woolworths rewards card and you will have earned yourself $34.50 Woolworths Dollars, effectively making the phone FREE.

Now you can walk away and be content that you have effectively scored yourself a free phone. Or, if you are a true ozbargainer, you will probably notice your new receipt has yet another unique half price coupon

So, you go back for round two. Same procedure as above. Present coupon. Phone comes down to $34.50. But this time when you scan your rewards card you will automatically redeem $30 Woolworths Dollars (this will be shown on the receipt as MEMBER REWARDS 3 @ 10.00). This will leave an amount of $4.50 that you must pay out of pocket, however, you will have earned yourself another $34.50 Woolworths Dollars.

So, after 2 transactions you have yourself 2 brand new phones, $39 Woolworths Dollars, 2 petrol dockets and yet another half price coupon. And so it goes on and on, though it does say limit of 2 per customer in the T&Cs, but I'd say that is referring to the maximum number of handsets they would sell you at one time.

This phone can be unlocked for $1.45 on ebay. Many thanks to abacusjk for posting the link and to other members for confirming it worked.

got my unlock code and it worked.

  • My unlock code also worked.

    • $1.45 a bit steep for unlock code only used once?
Or can it be used more than once……every IMEI number different and every unlock code different?

      • Not tried putting in Non-Voda SIM again but I presume once unlocked it remains unlocked permanently.

        • I mean use same unlock code on another phone!

        • The unlock codes for my 2 phones were different. I did not try the code from phone 1 on phone 2, but I'd be a bit surprised if it did work. Usually the unlock codes are based on the IMEI, at least that's my understanding.

      • Bit of a bargain I reckon. Vodaphone charge $75 to $100 to unlock it.

I have a Lumia 532 here that I havent unlocked as it costs minimum of around $20 to unlock even through a third party service.

        • If it was a Telstra lumia 532 that you bought 6 months back you could buy a telstra starter pack that comes on sale for a tenner (or even cheaper) and activate on Freedom plus for calls, data & text plus $30 credit which you can then use for unlocking the Telstra Lumia 532 for $25. Cheaper than 3rd party unlocking and legitimate.

        • @newozbargainermelb: Thats a good tip, but isnt the $25 only after 6 months of activation? Or does the freedom plus automatically make it available for $25 as soon as you register? Im not hugely concerned, might even just wait the 2 years and then get it unlocked by Telstra for free, its not a phone I use for calls, just for having a play with Windows Phone and possibly upgrade to Windows 10 soon.

        • @Gravy: yes, $25 after 6 months of activation. If you are using it for just windows experience then its not worth unlocking. If you don't use Telstra credit for Google play or dont know what to do with the credit then you may use it for unlocking.

        • @newozbargainermelb:
Do you know if telstra phones need continuous activation over that 6 month period to be eligible for the $24 unlock (or free unlock after 2 years)?? I activated the phone about a month ago but ported my number to another telco's sim later so the telstra sim is not being used now (Im using another phone).

        • +1

@Gravy: They just look for the activation date. The date when your phone was registered on their network for the first time. So, you can get your phone unlocked either after 5 months from now for $25 or 23 months from now for free.

  • Can any one pm me a code please ? Many thanks in advance.

  • Are others finding the pinch to zoom/zoom out ability of this touchscreen really haphazard when zooming photos or within HERE maps/ google earth maps etc.

Free phone, so not complaining, just curious if its a product wide issue. Its only a two point touchscreen but even still you would expect those 2 points to work, haha.

    • Yeah pinch to zoom and general touch sensitivity is balls on this.

      • -2

        Resistive touch screen.

        • Nah, resistive is pressure operated, in which case any object would operate the screen, but it doesnt work that way. I didnt downvote you BTW.

  • Guys, any code available to use? receipt/pic will be great. Thanks in advance.

  • Coffs Harbour plaza had some this morning. I think they had at least one more in display cabinet. Got one but they needed my license AND then asked for additional ID of Medicare card, odd. She said system doesn't normally ask for secondary ID which was strange, this was my second smart first phone and third vodaphone phone purchase in the last year so perhaps there is a trigger, she also asked me how many phones I owned and I said about 5, not sure if that was just a friendly banter question or some security question. All a bit strange but hey free phones and kids will be happy.

  • Got one this morning from Hawthorn, VIC. With the overwhelming +'s here, I didn't expect any stock since today is the last day for the promo and it's the third woolies along my way to work I tried. The girl did ask for an ID.

I still have an unused code if anyone still want to try their luck. Just pm me.

    • thanks :)

    • Gone but managed to find another two codes from trash. PM if interested.

ta OP this worked a charm!
my experience was pretty funny actually. i went to woolies and started rummaging in the bin outside the store. found receipts but none with the deal and got some hella disapproving looks and started to feel way awkward so i stopped. said to myself aloud, "just need a receipt, anything floating around…", then i looked down and just then THE WIND BLEW A RECEIPT W/CODE RIGHT TO MY FEET FROM AROUND THE CORNER. Wtf!

i was meant to have this free phone xD

    • Blessed you were, by the Receipt God. πŸ“ƒ

looks like this phone is back in stock at Woolworths. I got one yesterday from parramatta. And to my surprise, they applied 50% off on 50% price, so I only paid $17.50 and got $34.50 in my WR and the phone πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

    • What was the advertised of the phone?

      • Vodafone smart first 3G

        • Sorry, I was supposed to say price. So looks like $34.50 everywhere, but pity no reward dollars.

    • +1

Deje vu. Out to bin to find receipt vouchers again (only threw out yesterday after checking this deal for updates) & back to Woolies to buy phone for effectively free $17.50 profit πŸ˜ΈπŸ’°πŸ˜―

    • +1

      TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
Bought in Brisbane… But no Woolies Dollars for purchase :-(
      Price $34.50
      50% off = $17.25
      Woolworths Rewards on EDR:
Applied $10 (Bal $15.78 before purchase)
Earnt $0!! (Bal $5.78 after purchase)

      Will return phone.

      • +1

Right! I was reading this too with quiet enthusiasm. So no Woolies dollars, hmmm.I was looking around for anything to confirm the deal was still on, but couldn't bring up any Woolies or Woolworths Rewards pages about this other than Ozbargain ones from the original deal, so I had my doubts. I also considered that Woolworths are pretty incompetent and they may have not correctly set the end date for the deal/
@Cyberninja why are you yanking everyone's chain pal?

        • +1

T&C on WR site indicates it may take upto 72 for the dollars to credit. The receipt having coupon code says valid till 31st March.
When I went to woollies, the phone still had a label of $34.50 WR so I asked the Manager and she said you should get the reward dollars. She also mentioned that If you don't get the WR within 72 hrs, come back and talk to us. Else you always have the option of returning the phone. I will keep you posted. Sorry if I created unnecessary nuisance.

        • @Cyberninja:
          No worries, I get it.
Seems that they have mis-informed you. The Woolworth Reward dollars were applied instantly when I bought mine last time. I am pretty certain the WR cashback on this phone is well and truly ended.
The March 31 date refers to the half price docket discount and that is still running.

        • @Cyberninja:
So that confirms the Woolies Dollars are not available, just a $17.50 phone with the receipt voucher. I won't pay that much for this phone..

I've been told by stores they can do nothing about Woolies Dollars not being credited. So don't like your chances, but they may be better than buying from a store that hadn't left out of date promo material on display. Hope you took a photo of promo material & name of staff member who told you to come back.

As KT pointed out, during the promotion period, the receipt showed 34.50 Woolies Dollars credited immediately.

That was the basis of Unity1's deal here - buy the phone, use $30 of the 34.50 Woolies Dollars immediately credited to buy the next phone straight away.

        • @Infidel: thanks for the clarification. I will return the phone on my next trip :-)

      • Are coupons still being printed out on receipts?

        • Asked at counter when buying phone - they said they haven't seen that offer printed for a while.
I asked as 1 receipt was too faded to read.
They also doubted the 50% off voucher would work on the 50% off phone.

        • @Infidel: Thanks. I don't recall seeing it recently either.

Did you end up getting a refund?

        • @unity1:
Was not top of my priority list as am unusually busy. Refund should not be an issue.

I posted as soon as I bought. Would have seemed strange walking straight back in for a refund, but they would expect that from me. I get so much free stuff (like 2kg Tasmanian smoked salmon = $100)!

        • +1

@Infidel: Well thanks for confirming the Woolworths Dollars doesn't work anymore. You saved me an unnecessary trip.

        • @unity1:
Unnecessary trips to store is an Ozbargain sin, I think.

For others… The Woolies Dollars promo was only valid for 1 week (until this deal expired), whereas the 50% off voucher runs until the end of the month & confirmed it works on the now 50% off phone.

          Glad I could help.
Luckily I was in the shopping centre anyway.

        • @Infidel: i wonder if the promo expired, why would they still have the phone there with same label! :(

        • @Cyberninja:
Display of mobile phones is not refreshed too often. I've seen out of date promo material & no longer stocked phones in a few store displays.

Did your receipt show the bonus $34.50 Woolies Dollars added to your EDR card - printed on itΒΏ Best to check.

That's the only thing that counts, not what an out of date promo states. My receipt showed no Woolies Dollars at all added after purchase.
