$30 Telstra Starter Kit for $10 @ Telstra Online Store / Woolworths* / Officeworks / Coles

1121

Who needs to go hunting through through Coles for kits, when good guy Telstra just dropped another $5 of their discounted starter kits from their online store.

Potentially limited to 3 per card, as was the case last time through the cashback deal.

*Woolworths: seems some stores only according to comments

  • Woolies at Elizabeth, SA have no idea about this deal

Just get them to scan it. The woolies I went to also had no idea until they scanned it.

  • None at woollies @ Baulkham Hills :(

  • when i activate the sim, do i need to recreate a new acc? or i can add it into my existing acc?

    • Existing is fine

  • Can anyone clarify if they needed to give ID when buying the SIMs? And which store it was from? Thanks

    • +1

When i bought a Telstra SIM starter from Coles i didn't need to show ID there. The ID check happens on the online activation.

      • Ok, thank you for the clarification!

      • Actually it depends on the store. At Woolworth Camp Hill I was asked for 100 points of ID. They sighted my drivers licence, bank card and Medicare card.

Can anyone point to regulations which show you don't need to anymore if Telstra still require ID?

        • I was asked because I had more then 5 SIMs out.

        • 100 point ID is required through the online SIM activation, not on purchase. The store must be stuck in the old days when ID was required on purchase at the store since there was no online activation in the day.

There's no point having to supply the 100 point ID in store then having to supply the 100 points of ID again when activating the SIM online.

        • And those same details are recorded on the online activation. So there was absolutely no need for that Woolworths staff member to record those details. Telstra does the 100 point ID check to abide by government regulation through the online activation. Talk about the staff being anal for no reason.

    • +1

You need to show ID when picking up Telstra Sims (delivery or AusPost). Generally not when ordering online from other stores, or picking up at Coles/Woolworths etc.

      • Thanks! Will go get some instore at Coles or Woolies then.

      • woolworths are pretty anal here about id and spend 5 min per sim typing in details.
on rare occasions they will just sell without id.

you need to then use id to register the sim.
telstra is ultra strict on this.

        • It's not Telstra but government regulations.

        • I guess those Woolworths staff members don't know that the 100 point ID check is done online through SIM activation. They must be recording those details in store for absolutely no reason and wasting the stores time and people waiting at the counter.

  • Not discounted at my local Coles and Woolies.

      did you ask/scan at coles?

Coles until next Tuesday 17th - thanks to kyliet

      • Yep, tried scanning at the self serve checkout, then tried asking at the service desk. They knew nothing about it.

        • Scanned at a Woolies self serve checkout on Gold Coast today and was $10. I wonder if this offer is only in certain states? Seems a bit strange for it to not work sometimes?

        • @robertm: I'm in QLD too, so doesn't seem to be state-based.

      • Nope.

    • What country and state do you live in?

      • QLD

        • Worked for me at Woolies Capalaba QLD

        • @Trip: I'll have to try another Coles then. Maybe my local Coles is just particularly hopeless.

Why is a store manager serving you at the counter?

    • +10

Hang on, why do you ned to mention that the store manager is Indian? It has no relevance to your story. I'm not Inidan myslef, but this kind of casual racism bothers the hell out of me.

      • -4

I don't think it's racism just to mention that a person is Indian, any more than it would be racist to say the stupid Australian store manager denied me.

Is it racist to be called an Australian?

A lot of details aren't relevant. Bringing it up doesn't make you racist.

Thanks op but Can't beat the current Amaysim deal 3 months unlimited 5GB for $10.

    • Unless you dont live in a big city…

  • Bought a $50 Giftcard ! Get the $30 Telstra for $0 :)

The staff scanned and asked for $10, and after few secs went down to $0 !!! And she said OMGGGGG

Also, tried go to Harvey Norman to get pricematch, to get rid my HN Giftcard

Staff refused and say, Telstra price is only ONLINE ONLY and Officeworks price is only INSTORE ONLY
WTF??? He says it need to be available **ONLINE & INSTORE , STUPIDDD

    • What gift card did you buy to get this for free? Coles Myer?

        • I'm still a bit confused. $10 off next shop, applies to Woolies where you buy the GC, or at the place you are spending the GC at?

        • in summary you have to pay a $7 to cover the gift card fee + $50 for the gift card..

To get $10 off your next shop.

But 66% off google play credit beats 25% of apple credit any day.

        • @imcold:
          $7
So it actually costs you $57?

Negating the $10 off next shop.

    • harvey norman ate hopeless.
had them cancel 2 online orders re ently.
      no notification or message.
i only found out when my cc was credited back.
almost as tho old gerry hates online and treats customers buying from him like shit.

No stock at Kadina SA Woolworths, and they had no knowledge of this deal either, so would not permit a raincheck.

Popped in again, different staff member found their last two sim cards (hah!) and scanned them for me - $10 each.

      • Thanks for updating wiki kwchaz.

There's a limit of 3 per person as told by Woolworths Coorparoo.

        • Went in the next day and apparently limit is 5?

I was called dishonest by the checkout chick as I was Inna group. They specified it was a per person limit not group or household.

      • I rang the stores above but as it was on my way I went into the store and apparently Woolworth's Camp Hill does have some in stock. I got 5 so now it doesn't :P

  • Can I buy these starter packs to recharge my prepaid plan?

    • probably not. as these are starter kits and not recharge vouchers.

  • Any truth in obtaining rainchecks at Coles for these prepaid SIMs?

  • One time Telstra did this (at $15) when combined with cashrewards, they demanded to see ID and employment pay slips.. Also they refused delivery unless you were the one home to receive it (another family member can't accept the delivery on your behalf). Do you think it will go that way again? The CR is irrelevant from Telstra's POV, but they were still being shitty about it.

    • Do you think it will go that way again?

      Absolutely.

      • positive they will.. buy from WOW or OW

        • From my experience they never have stock. They get about 7 of these a week.

Just bought 10 from my local Woolies (Waverley Garden), and get a further $10 discount, total $90. This week only Save $10 when you spend $100 or more. Quote "CATALOGUE" at checkout.

    • maybe i know why you need 10? porting number out each month for 10 months? or you can call to recharge existing number?

It's not listed on the desktop Woolworth's website but is listed on mobile app. Expiry date is confirmed as 24 Nov.

  • Besides the Play Store, is there anything else you can do with this credit that is unexpected?

  • Hi, is the Telstra Pre-paid SIM Starter Kit for Tablets the same? Can the Tablet stater kit be used the same way as a normal starter kit? ie use in Mobile Phone, and also activate the Freedom Plus plan?
    thanks.

    • I couldn't activate the starter kits for tablets online (only showed tablet plans) but the person over live chat activated it on the Freedom Plus plan for me with no issues.

Officeworks Vermont South, VIC have the old $30 green nano-SIM starter kits for $5. Just picked up one. There's none on shelf but they have a handful left behind the counter. Not sure if the same applies with other stores or the other regular sized SIM starter packs.

    Receipt

    • Anyone confirm that it's valid at other stores?

    • You'd better refund it asap. I went there to buy and just realised it is all expired and can't be activated. If the SIM number is not 13 digits, don't bother buying because it won't be activated. Now wasting my time to go back to get refund…

Officeworks have clearance for $5 on near expired packs so make sure you check the expiry date.

  • +1

Website back to $15. All sold out offline. Out of Stock Expired.

    • I followed the date and thought I had 5 days left. I snoozed. I lost.

      Oh well.

      • Woolworth is still open for this price.

        • They never have stock when I try. Too much competition from people who buy 10+ at a time and get in early.

        • @lostn:

There was a limit of 2,3 and 5 per customer at the Woolworth stores I went to.

    • It did say it expires today. I thought it meant midnight but maybe it was close of business.

      • I only followed the expiry on the OZB posting. 24 Nov 4 days left

        • I believe I had made it 21st of Nov (cant remember), as originally, this deal was just for the Online Telstra shop. As other people commented that this was available at elsewhere. The mods must have adjusted the expiry date to the coles date.

        • @flylin: I see.

          They shouldn't have done that.

You posted this as an alternative to those places because it's easier to get stock. If there's only going to be one expiry date for multiple offers, it should be based on Telstra shop.

No matter, hopefully the deal will come again.

Getting anything from the supermarkets is ultra unreliable. They just never have stock, and when they do, one person buys them all.

  • Let's have stores re-filled and no expiry dates on the new packs.
    Ta telstra
