    beware.
last time they cancelled my order because of "suspected fraud transaction". wth.. i wish we can just go to telstra shop and pay by cash.

    btw, expiry date?

    • +1

The ones I bought in August, say Jun 2017. Different deal, but I would assume it would similar.

    • they took my money and still haven't refunded me

    • For the bonus 5gb data, you have to activate before 25 Jan 2016

    • Yep did the exact same to me… Spent hours on the phone with them and never got a refund. Now I have given up. You win Telstra…you win.

    • I am still in the process of getting a refund. I escalated it to complaints, and now TIO.

I did however get my cash back.

  • +2

Just saw these at my local Woolies as well - $10 for $30 starter kit… :-)

  • +5

I never got the refund from Telstra shop after they cancelled my orders (last time).

    • keep calling them, and complain, finally they resent the simcard to my house.

      • I work overseas and it would cost me more to call and complain.
I have tried the Telstra FB page, but they just refer me to call the Telstra shop number :-(

        • voip calls or charge back?

      • +3

Fill in the complaint form and give them the order number at https://say.telstra.com.au/customer/general/forms/Email-Comp…. This was the only thing that worked for me, everytime I called I just ended up wasting my time as they always promised to repay but never actually did.

        • Yes, complaint is the only way to get the money back.

        • Thank you very much sir!
          I will give this a try :)

        • +1

@Tippytoe: I did put a complaint too the ombudsman, they are currently not responding to complaints though and im not sure why, I think it may have something to do with a news article today saying complaints were down - yeah of course complaints are down if your not accepting them. http://www.news.com.au/technology/gadgets/telco-ombudsman-co…

          credit card chargeback

    • I have been at them for 3 months and they have refunded only five out of eight packs to date.
Does contacting the telecommunications ombudsman work these days? As it used to cost them I believe if investigated, so you got some action.

      • +1

        Wow, 3 months.
I would have gave up after 1 or 2 attempts.

But I am not going to buy any more SIMs from Telstra online shop. Not worth the risk of having it cancelled and not receiving a refund.

        • call them once or twice won't work. You have to lodge a complaint then they start to work on it seriously.

      • Initiate chargeback on credit card? You obviously never received the items as bought, so grounds for chargeback.

        • Didn't think of that with Telstra. I'll be ringing them again about this next week, and will ask them to either do it now, or I'll have to request a chargeback.

What concerns me more is whether Telstra will reliably process the Cashback details for Pricepal and Cashrewards, which are due this month. Nothing paid yet.

        • I have never heard of charge back?
Thanks, will need to look into this option.

        • +1

@congngo: You need to contact your bank and tell them you paid telstra but didn't get the item. Your bank should be able to get the money back for you, but it's a long wait, like 45 days.

    • +3

Had the same problem with the last deal. I purchased 2 of the SIMS and Telstra cancelled my order and never refunded my money.

I called, and they said they were going to resend the SIM cards but never did. - Never got a refund either.

This deal could almost be classified as a Telstra scam. Pay money, never get SIM cards or refunds.

      • +3

Don't buy from telstra online shop or even telstra store. Most likely they will take your money and cancel your order later. Buy from Woolworths, no question asked and you will get the sim pack straight away.

    • +1

Last time I have to call them a lot times and I also lodged a complaint at the end. The person handling complaint has no idea what's happening and saying it's my bank holding the money not telstra. So never never buy anything from telstra online shop.

      • +1

        Yep. I agree.
        This is very poor form.

    • Neither have I. I have been waiting since August. Have put in a complaint to TO and the refund is apparently in the mail, but it seems that they are having as much difficulty sending that to me as they had with the sims in the first place.
Seriously, steer clear of the telstra online store! It's not that hard to walk into woolies or coles and buy one for the same price.
The only good thing about it all is that we were thinking of switching our home phone and internet back to telstra and now I feel like I've had a lucky escape - you will understand if you ever have to ring to make a complaint.

      • I'm waiting for my refund too. Was being patience by waiting for the statement to be generated (last time hertz issued a refund it wouldn't show on my online transaction but did for the paper statement)

  • My daughter "inherits" my games by signing into her tablet as my account. If I put this sim in my old android phone, use her account, will she get $30 google credit to buy all the apps under her own account?

    • No

    • Short answer, yes…If you login in use her account on your old phone, apps can be bought under her account. But you will need to get te apps from your old phone before she can use it on her tablet.

      • +1

she does not need to get the apps from your old phone. Just go to google play on her tablet and redownload them after she buys them on your old phone. The purchase is linked to here account, not a single device. I have 4 android devices and you only pay once as they are all on the same account.

    • yes she will but will have to do it within 28 (or is it 30?) days. Not sure why PissLUR says no?

  • Can i use the $30 credit to recharge for $40 plan (ie by paying $10 and using $30 credit from telstra)? Thanks

    • I did something similar. Just go onto their Chat support. They'll activate or ask you to activate the SIM and ask you to recharge $10. Then they'll change the plan for you. But make sure you check that it's the right plan before you end chat.

    • No

    • +1

you MAY activate as a $40 Plan by paying $10 difference,

but Definitely NOT recharge for $40 plan

      • That's what they got me to do. I had a $30 starter kit. It's now activated as a $50 "Annual Pass".

        • So you activated your $30 sim, then applied a $20 recharge and then got the consultant to change your plan to an annual pass. So in the end you only had $50 credit on your account and not $30 + $50 ($80) to get a year of data?

        • +2

@kearnsy: In the end I had $50 credit on the account. ($50 credit, 5GB data and 365 day expiry)

        • @kearnsy:
$80? Where did you get that figure from?

        • @BlitzR:

Well I had previously purchased a $30 starter pack (cheap) and activated on data pass. I then used a $50 recharge to lock in for 12 month data pass. Thus I have $80 credit on my sim.

        • @bluechan:

Ok thanks, so essentially you forfeited the 3Gb that you would have gained activating the $30 as 30 day data pass. Did you initially activate the $30 as datapass or something else?

        • +1

@kearnsy: I suppose you could say that. But my goal was to get an annual pass not 8GB of data. As for which plan it was activated on. I don't think that matters. The girl on the chat just said that because I hadn't used any data or credit. She was able to change the plan for me.

        • He didn't forfeit anything.

Instead of $50 recharge to lock in for 12 month data pass, he only paid $20+the cost of starter kit to lock in for 12 month data pass

        • @bluechan:

Yes it seems the logical option when you can easily get additional 1GB of data by bouncing $10 between your sims.

        • @ccwwayne:

Yep understood, I just wasn't aware you could top up a $30 sim with a $20 recharge and then get a consultant to change. I had simply been activating my cheap $30 sim as 30 day data pass and getting a $50 recharge to lock in the pass for 12 months. Substituting the $50 recharge with a $20 I obviously get a cheaper $ result but I do forfeit the additional 3Gb I would have got doing it my way.

        • so with this $80 credit could i turn that into Google Play credit? I get confused as to which phone credit you can turn into google play cash.

        • I had a $30 starter kit. It's now activated as a $50 "Annual Pass".

After seeing your post I also got the $30 starter credit + $20 recharge converted to $50 annual pass by asking on Customer Chat. But they said they'd do it only "as a courtesy", and after the second one said they wouldn't do it again.

I'd like to suggest do not buy over five starter packs at a time from telstra online.

They flagged some of us as needing to go into a store with specific id.
As postage was included, I asked for a refund, now three months later, many calls and refund promised three times, only 5/8 packs are refunded to date.

Telstra are a mess. Maybe buy elsewhere, or buy 5 max and wait until you have them in hand before ordering more.

    • "They flagged some of us as needing to go into a store with specific id."
i dont mind go to store, show my id, pay and collect the simcards

      • +1

They wanted three forms of ID, which included proof of employment income or similar. Why?
It was too much trouble. They did not state a limit online, then refused to send the items they advertised because a customer purchased over five.
        Buy from Woolies or Officeworks.

        • +1

what? why they need to know your salary.. lol
          dont bother then

        • +2

I got told to go to Telstra shop and do this just for buying 1 (and only having 1 other sim already active)

This was after it got dispatched by courier then recalled.

It was a PITA so (eventually) got a refund.

        • +1

          Same here.
They want my ID (passport or driver license), proof of income and my rental statement.

I dont rent and the guys in the shop says that is what "control" wants.

          All for a prepaid card!?!
I give up and just ask for a refund which end up taking 5 weeks.

Apparently to Telstra eyes we must all rent a place :/

    • +1

Doesn't matter if you buy one or five at a time, if your flagged your flagged. My wife got flagged ordering just one sim. I got away with over 6 sims. The best way to ensure you don't get flagged is having another postpaid service with them.

    • Thanks guys.

    • I'd like to suggest do not buy over zero starter packs at a time from Telstra's online store.

Seriously, I got flagged when I tried to buy just one. No email to let me know either, I had to call up when it hadn't arrived after two weeks.

      • hahaha, genuine lol.

  • Thanks OP! Was about to buy one for $15 yesterday. Just saved $5.

  • Do these come with 3gb worth of data?

    • +1

      5gb with prepaid freedom plus

      • Oh right, so I can use the $30 credit and select the freedom plus plan?

  • Any details on the Woolies side of the deal ? When is it starting/ending ?

    • It was a standard yellow price ticket on the Telstra $30 starter packs - "less than 1/2 price - $10". Wasn't a clearance tag or anything, so assuming its national.

Couldn't see the start/finish dates on the tag, as the starter packs at my local Woolies are on a stand behind the counter…

  • As always I'm confused… I have an existing Telstra sim that is used as a mobile hotspot. If I buy this starter kit, how can I (or can I) use the credit on my existing number (to avoid having 6 numbers, as I have other accounts as well)?

Or should I just buy a new number, activate as freedom plus, and get 5GB and use that new number. Then rinse and repeat (and end up with 8 'active' SIMs)?

thanks! I'll admit complete incompetence at these things…

    • Some people usually call (or chat with) Telstra rep to de-activate the service once the allowance expires. Having too many active services might probably raise unnecessary flags, especially when 'officially' you can only have 5 services.

  • So I can convert these to $30 google play credit?

    • +1

      yes.. you can.

    • +6

you don't actually "convert" it to GP credit. You can just buy GP items using the credit in your Telstra account which will expire in 28 (or 30?) days.

      • Unless you recharge / me2you before expiry date

        • yep, correct

  • +6

I activated a $30 Starter kit last night and this is what appeared on my account:

    Credit remaining $30
    Call credit $700
    Data 6.3GB
    Freedom Plus
    Night Data 1.3GB
    International credit $200

    Unbeatable value for $10

  • +2

Where is TA to get $10 from cashreward? ;)

    • I emailed them last night, recieved credit this morning (7x$10)

      • +1

Assuming that's for a previous deal and not this one?
Currently there's no 'Telstra' entries on the cash rewards website.

    • huh? is there telstra on cashrewards?!

      • This was for an expired offer in august. $10 cashback .

        • thanks for the clarification.

  • If you ever have a problem with those telstra sims, prepare to waste 2 hours with their live chat to solve your problem, no matter how simple. I had to go through that painful process when mine didn't activate.

  • Can confirm Woolworths offer.

  • wondering if any good deals are coming up from VF, Optus and Virgin …

  • where is the woolworth offer? catalogue source please? townhall branch doesnt have special on display, still $30

  • Are these available from Telstra shops?

    I just saw. Online only.

  • +2

Just dashed across to my local Woolies (Brisbane DFO) at lunch - asked the nice lady behind the counter to look at the tag, and the deal is on until 24/11… They had quite a few on the shelf.

  • +1

Woolworths Tasmania doesn't have this deal.

  • Shame these can't stack with the catalogue code online

  • Forgive my ignorance but is it possible to activate one of these SIMs on a Freedom Plus deal then stick it in an iPad and just use the data?

    • +2

      Yes

  • I understand these can be used for Google play purchases but can anyone confirm if they can be used for Hearthstone in app purchases? ie the new LOE adventure?

  • Same price at Officeworks. Picked up 3 packs in OW Sydney CBD
