I think its because no one ever bought the 600g cartons. They were $4.90, and the 700g cartons were $5. So i always bought the larger ones.
A 700g (min) carton of 10 free range eggs at the local grocers (in Subiaco, WA) is $2.99.
This might be useful to someone….
How 'free range' are your eggs?
https://www.choice.com.au/food-and-drink/meat-fish-and-eggs/…
interesting read.
on a side note, I would like to sub to Choice, but frankly too cheap to pay retail. lol.
do they ever have discounts?
Never seen it on sale. They fund research from subscriptions. No ads so as to avoid conflict of interest and to avoid establishing any financial dependencies to the advertiser.
It's even more friendly for the chickens to not buy eggs at all.
Not to mention that all laying hens, free range or otherwise, are killed before they're a few years old, and their brothers killed a day after hatching.
But hey, pay a few cents more, get a pretty label and keep deluding yourself that you're doing animals a favour while exploiting them.
True, educating yourself on what really happens during the farming process beyond just adult birds in little cages is shocking and the knowledge sort of imprints on your brain.
This is not a bargain.
1, it's the normal price.
2, they're cheaper everyday at Aldi. How much EGGstra are they compared to Aldi? :P
He'll EGGSaggerate the price.
I have never bought free range/organic eggs from the supermarket since I saw a chinese lady wearing LV swapping the normal homebrand eggs with the sunnyvale free range eggs. Completely ruined my appetite.
Disgusting behaviour on her behalf, that's basically stealing from the next customer. You shouldn't let that one incident change your purchasing decision though, I doubt it would be a common occurrence.
Basically stealing from the next customer? Yes!
But also DEFINITELY stealing from the supermarket as well…..just because they are big corporations does not make it ok.
Yeah, well after that, its just disappointing… It's not like she's even poor. Anyway I try to buy from the farmers markets as often as I can… the really good farmers can tell you all about their flock - if thats what theyre called.
I lose my appetite when I see people wearing designer brands, too.
I always love the parallels between threads.
PETA Vegetarian handbook thread from a few days back: You can't take our meat! We love bacon! Eating meat is necessary! PETA are jerks anyways! (No one cares about pigs in poor conditions)
This thread: Eggs are bad for chicken welfare mkay.
PETA, Religious and SJW type issues like these here seem to have the village idiots crawling out the woodwork to post their opinions.
Go check out this thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/183333 for a laugh. I pinged over 10 users for posting long anti-caged chicken egg rants blabbering on about how they'd never support or pay for caged eggs etc…, despite their user histories showing years worth of up-votes and and positive comments about how often they purchase and how much they love food from retailers who all openly use caged eggs in their food.
these aren't really free range eggs tho no?
None are. Free range is a marketing term, it's not a legislated standard.
really - so why would this company get fined $250,000 for falsely calling their eggs 'free range' then?
https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/federal-court-orders-2…
Go read the law and you'll find out.
I guess the federal court doesn't know the law?
Nope, it would appear that you just don't understand it. The producer was done in for deceptive advertising not because of their use of the label, but because alongside the label they advertised that the chickens roamed freely outdoors. THAT was what got them into trouble. Again, NOT because of the use of the advertising term "free range" which is not a legislated standard.
You keep accusing people of not understanding "free range" or the law, but you have yet to produce any legislative standard or law regarding the advertising slogan "free range". You wont be able to either, because none exist regarding it.
Not a deal as it is everyday price.
Should not be allowed as otherwise OB will be flooded whenever a supermarket lowers its everyday price.
Also, as mentioned cheaper elsewhere.I’m here for the vegan comments
