Am I missing something here? Why spend this much when you could just buy a raw 250Gb SSD for $145 (as per this current deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202585) and throw it into a $10 USB3 enclosure saving $64? I must be missing something, right?
I guess this is much smaller and neater
It's the mSATA version of the same 850 EVO drive, in a housing. They were flogging that drive at $259 for 500GB a few days ago (vs $349 here)
So yep, I'd say it was overpriced, and unless you really need something very small, not worth it.
This Samsung is Msata I believe (if anyone was wondering).

DIY could be made even smaller and neater with a 3rd part enclosure + msata SSD

… and throw it into a $10 USB3 enclosure saving $64?
which $10 USB3 enclosure supports UASP?
Bingo, that's the info I was missing. Thanks :) Oh and thanks for putting the 'Beverly Hills Cop' theme in my head too ;)
why Beverly Hills Cop?
and thanks 'cos now its in my head.
@PVA: I think he misread 'AlexF' as 'Axel Foley'
Ahh, I see now.
@CyberGenesys: Hah, nah… didn't misread it at all ;)
not $10 but $17 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/mSATA-to-USB3-0-SSD-Enclosure-Ada…
For this particular product, this is the cheapest price I have found from the online Australian stores. I suppose this product is pretty specific and is only for those who want a small & neat Portable SSD straight out of the box (no customisation required). For all techies, maybe not such a value deal.
We need TA to go on a date again! Code: portabletightass
You don't even need an enclosure. In my tech bag, I just carry one of these cables
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-3-0-To-SATA-Adapter-Converter…
This cable lets me use any 2.5" drive via USB port. Easy, clean, no screws required.
I ripped apart my samsung 2TB slim and just use that board with a usb port :P couldnt be bothered buying a spare
