Actually looks like there was a price drop across the board today.
Amazon have listed the 2TB models and dropped both EVO and PRO a few %. Even Kogan is matching this deal now.
Amazon seems to work out about the same with shipping and conversion, im interested in a 512 Pro myself :)
Would this work for a MacBook Pro mid-2010 model? Just asking - i'm new to this whole thing and wanted to upgrade!
It'll go straight-in, but that machine will hold it back -> SATAII interface has a top speed (limit) of 300MB/s
This Samsung drive is capable of 515MB/s +
This deal's over now, but have a look at this great one (bought one yesterday):
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202549
On paper, it's ~18% slower… but it's like comparing a Ferrari & a Lambo in the CBD.
Those speeds they refer to, you'll never know the difference.
SSD delivers content in the BLINK of an eye. So it's like splitting hairs to find a difference.
And-again, in your machine, it won't matter. It's $119, top brand & as fast as possible.
PS. In a BASIC comparison… your current hard disk will be ~130MB/s
My BM…X… beats the Fellali and Lamboginie in CBD traffic.
Holy (profanity). It'll almost TRIPLE the read/write speeds? Would I need to upgrade the RAM to make it smoother or would 4GB be enough?
@adityaindia: That's top speed. Moving gigabytes of stuff will get up to that speed. But startup/shutdown, and ALL the stuff in the middle involves thousands of little crappy files. Every single search-start-stop, next file etc. takes a lifetime. However, it's an SSDs strongest point. Those numbers are MUUUCCCHHH more important. And they're like 25x faster, at least.
RAM is just what your machine is looking to remember right-now. It doesn't need to remember shit, when it has the world at its fingertips, and blazing fast ;)
More RAM's great, but you might not need it. It's the hard-disk that's turned-out to be the worst bottleneck with computers.
You'll find software & guides around too, to clone your HDD onto your SSD, if that's your preference.

The 500GB also seems to have free shipping, not bad for $249.
Note: You can select the insured shipping option and free shipping still comes up on the checkout screen.
Yeah. its a good deal :)
Got a 500gb cheers for the heads up
Thanks for spotting that!
Got the insured shipping options for free too :)
Thank you!
Excellent deal, pulled the trigger on this one, cheers @Domingo :)
What's the difference between this and this deal which is cheaper: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202549 ?
Different brands. People might prefer the Samsung over the Sandisk. Also, according to their websites, the Samsung is ever so slightly faster than the Sandisk.
The 850 evo is better then the Sandisk Ultra II 240GB SSD
I also really like the Samsung software that comes with the 850 Evo as it has Windows OS optimizations for SSD.
Where do I find this Samsung software? Looked on the Samsung site and no luck
http://www.samsung.com/samsungssd/
Download the "Samsung Magician Software".
Search for "samsung ssd magician".
The samsung is the superior drive. However if you don't mind a slight drop in performance (unlikely to notice the difference anyway) the Sandisk is really good bang for buck there.
I'm currently hoping someone will do a cheap deal on the 120GB Sandisk again (it's been $61 delivered) as I need a SSD for an older PC (Fit-PC2) limited to PATA speeds on a SATA port (in other words limited to 133MB/s) where the cheapest SSD will do the job.
EDIT: As mentioned the Samsung comes with some mature optimization software too. I own a few Samsungs and have nothing but praise for them.
Any reason why I'm being charged shipping? I'm trying to order one but it's adding $8.95 to postage.
EDIT: Seems to work now. Even when the Courier + Insurance option is selected! Bonus!
:) sweet deal
was it only the samsung 840 that had problems or is the 850 affected as well?
Only the 840 EVO from the couple of articles I read about it.
ok thanks.
Getting from Amazon still cheaper, I was hopping that they match the price with Amazon for a 500GB drive.
Yeah. But thats the cheapest shipping (~$139). I would pay $6 more to have it at my house by tomorrow.
I am waiting for Prime Day deals from Amazon (15th of July). I hope they offer good deals for SSDs
Ooh thanks, will wait till 15th July.
Isn't Amazon Prime Day for Prime members only though?
There's a 30 day prime trial available. I signed up last week so I can participate in the sales. It's free so why not
I started watching Amazon US Prime deals as a result of your comment and missed the Amazon UK deal of GBP270.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LF10KTE?ref_=gb1h_tit_…
wow what a good deal! I didn't know its in amazon UK too. I am disappointment that there isn't much good deals for SSDs.
I ended up buying some gift cards $55 for $45 (free$10). going to use them towards Samsung SSD will cost me around AUD $110 for 250GB
Did you order to a US address? I got the following message when I tried to order the gift cards:
"Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address."
@973728: yes, I know someone there who is going to receive them and give me the numbers
Can this be installed on my Samsung Notebook RF511? It is slow now.
Sure can:

Easy :-)
purchased a 500gb thanks very much
Good deal to upvote then!
Got all excited and was about to buy until I realized this was not the mSata variant
Kinda strange that they both list RRP as $219 but the mSata variant is $155
http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/samsung-850-evo-250gb-…
hey Rep, any chance you can do the mSata one for $145 also ? got my credit card ready and waiting
Thanks
+1 rep. I'll purchase the msata at the same price.
Hi WayneSpoon,
thanks for your query, i do want to take your $$ but we can't reach that price at the moment.
cheers
SE
Understood, at $155 your still a couple bucks cheaper then anyone else I can find on StaticIce so will likely end up buying anyway, $145 would have just made it a no brainer….
Don't suppose you can do a good price on one of these if I buy it same time ?
http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/intel-dual-band-wirele…
doing some upgrades on my laptop
Yes, happy to do something on that as a bundle deal.
please PM me your SE username, ill do a bundle discount for ya.
cheers
SE
is msata the same thing but without the plastic?
I believe with the EVO 850 they are the same architecture and hardware as all the reviews indicate that they are performing the same and using the same chips.
I think historically because mSata is a lot smaller then your "standard" laptop hard drive they tended to perform not as good as they struggled to put the same performance into a smaller form factor.
If you look at say this picture
http://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_migrated/pics/IMG_07…
The left is your normal desktop computer hard drive, the middle is the size of a normal laptop one (size that the OP posted in this deal) & the right hand picture is an mSata. You can see that the mSata drive is noticeably smaller.
Not all laptops are capable of running mSata as I don't believe you can get any mechanical mSata drives and laptop manufacturers tend to not put the port there unless they are intending to use it.
In the case of my Dell some models came with a 32gb mSata SSD for SRT
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-tech…
This means that when the laptop had been designed it was capable of accepting an mSata however dell in their wisdom and attempt to save a few cents per laptop decided that if it was not factory pre configured with a mSata then they just left the chip and connector off
http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-…
In my case I can order the different daughter board and go ahead and slap an mSata SSD on go for gold. If your laptop doesn't have an existing mSata drive there is a fair chance that it won't be able to accept one and you will need to use one as posted in this deal. The downside is that if your laptop only accepts one hard drive like most do then you need to remove your old hard drive to run the SSD. Your other option if you wish to keep your existing laptop hard drive and have an unused DVD drive you can remove the DVD drive and get a hard drive caddy.
Hope this helps
yeah.. will stick to standard sata drives when upgrading laptops
Bought from them last time at 149
Great drive, paired with z97 mobo, i5-4790k and 2x 4gb Kingston hyper x and windows 8.1
Computer boots from off to login screen in 3 seconds =D
i5-4690k or i7-4790k? I don't think i5-4790k exists.
Sorry typed on mobile @ work, i5-4690k OC to 4GHz
Any chance of a special price on the 4TB WD Red?
PLE had them for $189 a little while back, and there's been a few other deals since (I think you had them at $209).
$227 is currently the best price around.
If I remember correctly those things have abnormally high failure rates. Worth double checking just in case.
EDIT: Nvm, I remembered wrong and it was a Newegg issue with RMAs due to some firmware bug.
PLE had them for $189 a little while back,
If that's your criteria for a bargain (setting the bar pretty low, if I do say so), then just grab a Seagate Barracuda 4TB from MSY for $185. There should be plenty of stock at your local branch and it'll perform better than the WD Red anyway (which is just a WD Green with different firmware).
Do bare in mind that just last month and prior to that, we were seeing 4TBs going for $155 or less.
Hell there was this External 5TB for $149 @ OW just a few days ago; perfectly usable internally when you crack open the enclosure.
And let's not forget the Seagate 8TB Archive HDD for $287 last month.
I'd wait a little.
So you're saying you'd recommended any of the above mentioned drives for a NAS running 24/7?
Is it not worth spending the extra to get the warranty for a WD red rather than popping the case on a Seagate External?
Genuine question as I'm on the hunt for cheap NAS drive at the moment as was leaning towards 4x 3TB or 4TB WD reds at this stage, probably not going to bother with running RAID in my microserver.
If you trust Seagate with your data. I'll stick with WD (or HGST) thanks. Yes HGST is WD owned now, but they kept their own facilties as part of the deal and still seem to be producing the most reliable drives.
https://www.backblaze.com/blog/what-hard-drive-should-i-buy/
That said, I just had a 4TB WD Black start throwing errors and it's only 6 months old, plus several years ago one HGST that arrived from the US DOA (the other three are fine). Back when our dollar wasn't in the toilet (ahh remember those days). The 3TB HGST drives have been running fine in my two HP microservers for years.
I wouldn't be buying overseas (perhaps Amazon, but not B&H Photo Video where I got my HGST 3TB. You want a place with a good return policy as shipping will be an issue. Also not sure which brands have international warranties), and I wouldn't be cracking cases unless it was 50% cheaper (perhaps something in the 2.5" HDD). I think all hard drives are risky, perhaps the most risky computer part that you'll buy.
Had reliability issues many years ago when I had Seagate HDD's (Core 2 Duo days) and haven't seen any information to show that they are any more reliable these days. Safest option is to buy in Australia and hope that the store will deal with any RMA issues. I've read that Seagate have a returns center in Australia, while WD have to be sent to Malaysia. So that is a plus for Seagate, but still wouldn't buy them. Each to their own though.
I got these drives from Kogan during the eBay sale for $132.91 delivered.
I don't know why people down vote. Even if this was a bragging statement, it's useful to know what past sale prices have been achieved that aren't measured by staticice.
Thank you.
I have stated the fact not an oppinion or trying to brag.
I hope that the information has helped someone made their decision to commit or not.
I know that if I was in a position of ready to commit but not 100% sure how good the price is, I would like to see this kind of information being posted.
It would allow me to decide to buy now or wait for a better deal.
Just grabbed one. I've been hanging out for one of these for a while now. Thanks.
I bought this from MSY recently for $155, so this is a good price
I'm getting 0 stock message at checkout :(
I got this for $149 from them a month ago, still a sweet deal. Very fast postage and no troubles.
i7 laptop with 8GB stock RAM boots in 12 seconds on this 850 Evo.

Can anyone tell me if this can be installed in a DELL Inspiron 11 3000 Series 2-in-1 Laptop?
Thanks! Buying one now!
Mine arrived first thing this morning and already in my MacbookPro. Love it. Thanks!
Has this expired? shows as $149 plus $10.88 postage for me.
Yup, expired
Highly regarded, cheap price.
