  • Is Changchong a good brand?

I've not heard of them before…

    • I have read that they use the same panels as Samsung, so are better than the cheapo's. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

      • +3

They make their own panels and in the past samsung have used them for cheaper models.

Recently purchased the 40" for the kids room and am very impressed with it

        • I have the 40" (LED40D1000) . happy with it. sound is good. picture is good. plays every movie format from my hdd. paid $314 for it. certainly value for money. can't speak for the TV in this deal, but changhong seems ok.

        • @altomic:

Yeah I have the D1050DV - Same size etc but with the DVD player "built in" where built in means screwed to the back But cannot fault the TV

    • My biggest issue is that I've heard the picture quality is good however audio is apparently not that great. So having to purchase a soundbar in addition to this makes me think it may be a better idea to simply buy a Panasonic or LG or Samsung etc?

      • I have come to conclude that a flat panel TV is never going to have great sound anyway given how thin they are.

I would get a standalone set of speakers/sound bar even if I get a TV from the big brands.

The main advantage of these big brands is that they have more stringent QA on the panels i.e. less likely for dead pixels, better backlight uniformity and less bleeding as they are more likely to use the top panels in the batch and better assembled.

however audio is apparently not that great.

Audio in a TV is never great. Thats what the s/pdif out etc is for.

  • I wonder if we will get a 55" for $460 like the Seiki model last year

What's wrong with the first one you got?

I have a Changhong LED TV which had an issue. I brought it directly to their Mount Waverly support office and they fixed it on the spot. I found that the people who work at their support office were understanding and stood behind their product. I reckon if it wasn't for the unfamiliar spelling of their brand name that the company would be better known.

      and stood behind their product.

      how big was it?

Seems to lack a lot of basic features…

    USB Port No
    Remote Control No
    Speaker No
    Stereo Sound No

    • +2

DSE website is terrible for getting the features right. Often features are listed multiple times with varying results. I'd be more inclined to check the Changhong website

Indeed. Speaker outout is 2x8w and there is 1xUSB port. Some pages list it coming with 2 batteries also, so one would assume there is a remote in there somewhere.

At first I thought it said Chang chong
Then after I realized it didn't, I thought is it chan ghong or Chang hong

    • chang hong , good brand with a reasonable price

    • lol wow, I read it same way as u

  • 长虹 chang hong, a good brand from China. we had one for 10 years, not this model tho, happy with it.

  • +1

Changhong is mandarin Chinese measn rainbow

  • Panel Refreshment Rate 60Hz
    Enhanced Motion Rate(EMR) 100Hz

which one is the actual refreshment rate???

    • The panel refresh rate would be the real one.

  • Does anyone know how do you use Wish gift card with this discount?

EDIT: clarification: How to get 5% discount with Wish gift card on Dicksmith website? I tried to apply the gift card but I don't see the 5% discount.

    • +1

The discount they refer to is the discount you get buying the gift card.

eg $100 giftcard from Cashrewards (or other) costs $95

So using that to buy a $100 item at DS means you effectively have paid $5 less - that being the 5% discount 😉

  • Dick had this model on special at the end of last month for $595.15 and also had a code for 15% off bringing the total to $505.88. That's about the cheapest l have seen it.

  • Can anyone please tell me, can I stack up multiple gift cards on check-out? I know there is a deal at Coles which is 10% off DSE gift card, and not sure what amount it is on each card. So if it is say 100 each, can I buy 6 and use them one by one on DSE website to check-out the $543? Thanks in advance.

    • The 10% off DSE gift cards starts tomorrow. I was looking at the same thing.
