      • My order remains in 'admin' for delivery 16th and its for 'HP SlateBook 14-p001TU PC AUST' when I clicked on the buy now button on your link it takes me to an 'out of stock' page… Can anyone add a slatebook to their cart?

Regardless of anything else HP have no idea how to run an online business. Not a clue.

    • 5 days after payment I still haven't received notification of no stock and that'll bet getting a rufund, very poor customer service from HP.

  • Silent as a ghostship. Hopefully not a standard practice for Aus HP~.
Steered the order through cashrewards though and still hoping.

    Last Change: 25-May-2015 09:42 GMT
    Rather looked forward to this.

Perhaps team can resurrect some dignity by making good on schmozzled processes last week. Still in good faith.

    • I went through cash rewards and I go a call

  • +5

I hope HP are reading this deal node…!!

They have stock on US site so why not ship them over?

    Honour your deal HP….

    • +1

How do you know they have stock on the US site? I see a 'buy now' option but it defaults to an out of stock page on my computer.. can you successfully add it to a cart?

    • +1

That's exactly I have replied to them yesterday. Either get the stock from US or China. HP behaved like cheap online store that uses customer money for a month.

    • US one I think is 16GB.

      • +1

If that's the only difference I wouldn't mind if they sent me one of those. Still very much worth it for the price IMO

  • +5

I hope they are reading this and will honour the deal. I personally won't be ordering another HP product again if they don't. Their online store needs serious work. Less flashy pictures and more functionality.

  • +1

Might email HP the link to this node…which HP email address, I don't know but I'll find one…

  • +2

    http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertisi…

Check the section under "bait advertising", and it's pretty clear

    • It is indeed. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • -5

Seriously people? They listed the item out of stock, but said stock should be available in 1-3 weeks, because it has to be produced, but then the factory tells them it's no longer produced? Is that really bait advertising? Do you expect them to ship something that isn't made anymore?

    • +5

I think the grumbles are about the time it took them to get back to people, still accepting orders and having it on the site while e-mailing and phoning cancellations to others, and being able to take the money for the orders as soon as they were placed, but needing two weeks to refund the amounts to those accounts.

Had it been a shoe or loudspeaker manufacturer, it would have looked like poor planning. When it is a company founded in 1939, recognised as the foundation stone of Palo Alto [Silicon Valley] that offers services such as network security, information security and information assurance compliancy as well as building system, it's not unfair to expect them to have their act together a bit better than this.
It wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest they consider utilising the services of a company that can offer a little information assurance compliancy, and seeing if they can purchase some web-hosting that can be updated in something approaching real-time. I believe EDS would be… Oh, that's right.

What they are doing right, and all kudos to them for this, is phoning the people concerned where an e-mail would suffice - and not doing so in an attempt to up-sell, so people, when you get the call, although you'll be as frustrated as me, be nice! It's not the person phoning you who stuffed up.

      • When it is a company founded in 1939, recognised as the foundation stone of Palo Alto [Silicon Valley] that offers services such as network security, information security and information assurance compliancy as well as building system, it's not unfair to expect them to have their act together a bit better than this.

Even if it was a smaller company or business in a completely different industry, the reaction would still be the same.

      • The HP Australia Store staff had no stock in their warehouse, so they took orders for it to be produced at the factory and sent out. During these couple of weeks, the factory told them that the item was discontinued and that there was no similar product available. From there, they contacted us about it being discontinued and offered us refunds. I know this because I spoke directly to my HP management contacts as I'm employed by a large well-known supplier of HP products.

I'm not denying that they took too long to contact everyone and I think that our money being held for 2 weeks is stupid.

        • +2

It is not unreasonable for consumers to expect HP to know what their factory produces and to sell products on their website accordingly. They should have known exactly when the product became discontinued, how much is left in stock (if any) and their website should have reflected that, baring new orders being made if stock had depleted and additional orders could not be fulfilled. Taking our money for 2 weeks, making us waste our time and then simply apologizing for the inconvenience by telling us it is out of stock is poor form on HP's part. I'm sure many agree with me.

        • @djevoultion: I agree with you. They should have known, but what else can they do in this situation?

        • +7

          @Clear:

I can think of a few of the top of my head that I don't consider unreasonable:-

          1. Offer an option to swap with another laptop in a similar price range, i.e. the US version of the slatebook with 16GB storage if that is not discontinued.

          2. Exclusive discount code for those that had their order cancelled to purchase their other products (possibly the chromebook?) It's a win for them and a win for us looking for a cheap capable travel/media laptop

          3. If the above are not possible, the least they could do is give us a reasonable apology letting us know they made a mistake, product is discontinued and not just sending us a standard pre-written "out of stock" fluff. Look into returning money sooner. It doesn't take 10 to 14 days to refund money in my experience.

        • +3

@djevoultion: First offer is defiantly not possible as it's discontinued globally and has been listed out of stock on the US store for sometime.

The other offers are reasonable. Perhaps people who have not received a phone call yet should suggest it when they get a call? I'll send an email to their staff and see if anything can be arranged.

        • @Clear:

You could also mention the two week delay in refunds, and maybe point them to threads on Yatango. There are other options I had that are now no longer available as some of my discretionary funds are now sequestered.

        • +4

@terrys: I've already mentioned the refunds, but I'll link them to Yatango as well. I'll try everything I can with my somewhat limited power with HP. Their consumer support is hopeless, but their business/corporate team are usually excellent, so I'll look at that path if the response isn't good.

        • @Clear: Hi Clear.

If you do have any sway with these clowns could you get them to just hurry the eff up with the refunds.

It appears abundantly clear they have no stock and just dragging this out will only cement my resolve to never trust them with my business again. If they can't even get sales right I'm not going near them as I can't begin to imagine what after care will be like.

        • @djevoultion:

I think a discount code is a sensible alternative but this and previous experience has soured me from purchasing HP. Can anyone recommend a brand and supplier for a cheap range 15" AMD laptop?

        • @mooney: No reply from them so far. I doubt I'll get a response anyway. Only things my contacts could do was to point me to their department.

        • @Clear: Thanks for trying. I am trying to proactively reach out to them to facilitate a refund as it is clear they are OOS. It is surprisingly difficult to achieve. I am getting close to escalation.

        • +1

@mooney: 1800 625 236 or 02 8934 4357 is the best line for complaints. Try those if you want to escalate it further.

  • +11

I actually don't wish to wait for a telephone call.. if it's out of stock just email me, apologise, and process a refund. And don't ever expect me to shell out cash to your mickey mouse company again.

    • +1

I think you mean Goofy ……they also cancelled my order after first confirming a delivery date!! Shabby, amateurish, incompetent all come to mind and I'm being kind….. :-( .. !!

  • Still nothing for me. Not sure if it is worth crossing my fingers.

  • I just wish they'd hurry up and tell us rather than making us hang on the edge. I'm looking at buying a chromebook but don't want to commit to a purchase if this one goes through.

    • i have not received any communication from them regarding my order. Instead of waiting, I decided to buy an Asus x205ta from HN deal and pickup it up the next day.

If this one push through, which I doubt, then I will just sell it.

      • Is this worth buying? I am undecided if I need another Win PC.

        • I guess it will depend on the need of the user. If portability and Ms office is high on your list then the asus fits the bill. Its very light weight. I also have high regard with the reliability of asus products. My tf101 still serving me well.

        • @ronaldo0917:

The small amount of available storage worries me when installing metro apps as they will consume the space very quick. I think I will look at a Dell DFO 11 3000 2 in 1 for about $370.

        • @ronaldo0917: I have an Asus Core 2 Duo 1.6ghz laptop from 2007. It's still running strong and 100% reliable.

        • @kimae: I have a Dell core duo that still gets is, I although I put an ssd and more ram in since then, and after the screen and TouchPad went I picked up a second hand one and cannibalise the parts and made the "broken" one my home server

  • +1

    Just got a call…

"Thank-you for your order and we do appreciate you buying HP. Unfortunately….due to the high demand….we have run out of stock"

Time to hit social networking I would say!

    I have started.

    https://www.facebook.com/HP?fref=ts

    • I couldn't see your comments anywhere?

      • They are there but buried.

  • +1

Please inform me if I am missing something but why is it a big deal if they already charged your credit card?
    A) Funds are credited back before you have to pay your bill
    or
    B) The charge is not credited and you dispute payment for goods not received.

I fail to see how the consumer is out of pocket although I totally understand the disappointment and anger generated by anticipating an item that from what I read for all intents and purposes no longer exists.

    • +5

THe customer is out of pocket to the extent that they do not have that money. The funds were removed when the order was placed. the funds can be returned just as quickly when the sale is discovered not to be viable.

HP make no provision for cancelling the sale once the order is placed. They go further, and state that a offer once accepted cannot be cancelled.

"All orders are subject to acceptance by HP. HP will provide you with an order acceptance or rejection notice as soon as reasonably possible.

You will specify a delivery address within Australia unless otherwise agreed.

Once HP has accepted your order, it is final and binding upon you.".

The principle of equity could be used to argue that there is a similar binding on HP - which they themselves attempt to nullify by further comments. They argue they have good reasons for such. What cannot be reasonably argued is that taking money immediately, taking several days to contact the purchaser to inform them the contract cannot be fulfilled _ and then informing them it will take a further two weeks to refund moneys, when such delay is not a feature of the banking systems and methodology they chose for the transaction, but of internal policies of the party who has failed to fulfil the contract_, while not criminal, places HP firmly in the company of shonks and shysters.

$169 may not be much to you. That you may have no problem when merchants have taken your cash, then advised you they cannot give you what you need, and promise to get the money back to you in two weeks is, I'm sure, a comfort to those you deal with.

I have a 75" QHD TV around here if you want it, Just send me over $169. There is no worry - if it isn't there when i next look i will send you money back - minus a $1 handling charge - in two weeks.

    • +6

      It's a big deal because:

      1. They advertised something they can't deliver
      2. They then didn't bother to take the product down from their site even thought they had started calling people telling them they can't have it
      3. They never bothered to make good on the deal by offering an equivalent replacement, which is just lazy because they can EASILY do this (they have heaps of products that are similar enough, eg. chromebooks, hybrid notebook/tablets etc. My guess about this is that they just think they were selling them too cheap and don't want to sell them
      4. They then just wasted a buttload of people's time

I guess you just have to ask yourself in which society should a multinational company be able to get away with being so shitty to people for absolutely no good reason? If there wasn't some penalty/need to make good for people, then they would be doing this all the time and stuffing people around even more. They obviously have been already since there is an ACCC warning on their site

      • So if there is an ACCC warning on their site what more can the ACCC do? Is it worth people reporting them?

        • That may depend on who ACCC depend on for their I.T. [g.d.rvf.]

        • +3

Not sure of the specifics however they do appear to be a shonkily managed company. They appear to currently in breach of ACCC by hosting an 'up to 55%' off click frenzy event on their site but with nothing over 30% off (as far as I could see)

I think it is clear to see they are just appalling managed locally.

        • They can impose heavy fines for breaches of the law

        • @mooney: Slatebook was originally 349.99 so they could easily argue that a lot of their products were 55% or less of RRP.

        • @Clear: I still cant find anything with a 55% or more discount. The slatebook was listed as $200, which is just over 40% discount. They do not have a reasonable representation of product at 55% or more off. This is in breach of ACCC for sure.

        • @mooney: $200 was it's already on sale price. Original price at release was ~449 and reduced down to ~349 and then ~200. They would simply tell the ACCC that it's 55% of X amount RRP.

  • +1

This is getting ridiculous. Order still stuck on Admin/Processing and no call or email from HP. At this stage I'm tempted to just give them a call and get it over and done with

  • I would like to know did anyone who ordered a slatebook receive it?

    • +1

Better question is how many customers have they still not informed that the orders won't be processed or get a refund any time soon.

  • Went with a Dell 11 3000 2 in 1. $329 from DFO.

  • I spoke with Praveen in the complaints department who promised 3 days ago to issue a priority EFT which has not yet been received. just spoke with him again now and he said he's done everything on his end and it's just waiting for the finance department now to issue the refund. This is just ridiculous.

    • Did he mention whether anybody will be getting their orders or will all be cancelled?

      • He mentioned that all orders in the last 2 weeks are in the midst of being cancelled. They are just understaffed at the moment apparently.

  • OK. So I pestered them. In a word, useless. Funnily enough got this email as I was helpfully explaining to them why their company is a shambles.

    Dear *****,

We are writing to inform you that the product that you have purchased (part # J6M17PA) is currently out of stock due to overwhelming demand. As the product was on clearance, HP will not be receiving any additional stock and regretfully we are not able to fulfil your order. A refund has been processed to your account and you should receive that refund within 7 to 10 working days.

If you wish to purchase an alternative product, please visit the HP online store at www.hpshopping.com.au

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Thanks & Regards,

I strongly advise calling them up on:1300304889. Otherwise you might be waiting for a couple of weeks for bad news.

      • Is that a 24/7 number? I don't get out of work till after business hours. I hate having to phone them up for something that they ought to be doing. No doubt I'll be giving them an earful.

        • +1

No idea. They got an earfull from me about the fact they let me place an order after they were already contacting others about out of stocks and that its taken me to call them to tell them they're out of stock and to prices my refund.

As always the people on the phone don't engage, they just apologise, making the whole rant unsatisfactory.

HP now joins Cartier as a company that'll never see another dollar from me.

  • +1

Anyway, just received the email, its really disappointing for this to happen as well but just out of curiosity, for such a deal to happen relatively near EOFY. This sudden influx of purchases suddenly skyrockets the books and thus report a good turnover hence a fantastic financial report and when FY is over the refunds start happening….makes you kinda wonder…

    • But that would just affect next year's FY results wouldn't it? Not defending the company just asking.

      • @aussie28
Your right but still it will improve the current accounting books and the "big guy" responsible here would get credit but at the same time he gets bad rating just as a show of performance…Anyway its just a thought, but better to explore other genuine bargains…

  • Just called customer support, 100% no laptops for anyone. Not sure when I was going to be told and the 7 - 10 days start from when you are notified (or in my case initiated the refund).

Would recommend calling 1300304889 and doing the same or as mooney already stated you will be waiting for them to get around to it.

Try to be nice to the staff though as abusing them will not get your order fulfilled.

Now typing laptop into Ozbargains and continuing my search!

  • After being promised a priority refund last Tuesday by EFT I have still not received any funds but have just received this email. Grrrrr. Just give me the refund already HP.

I presume at no extra charge although have not confirmed that.

    • Would be worth checking if there is no extra charge as it's $399.99 RRP.

      • +2

I been offered the same.. Not sure though

Slatebook was full HD. This is not.
        Slatebook was 32GB vs 16GB

Not even sure how many usb this has or if it has USB3 at all (sources conflict!)

This is Chrome OS. WTF would I use it for? I wanted an Andriod

      • +1

Just got an email from HP, no extra charge $169.15 delivered

    • You can put a full Linux distro on a Chromebook…

  • +1

I also got the same offer of HP Chromebook 11-2101TU. It is simply not as good as Slatebook in terms of specs, Reviews are average with touchpad having issues. I have asked them to consider providing either 14 inch screen laptop or Touchscreen laptop, OS does not matter. I am waiting for their response.

    • They won't do it. I just spoke to the manager. All they are willing to do is refund or offer the chromebook. I've decided to go with the chromebook 11 even though I ordered the Toshiba Chromebook 2 yesterday. I'll find a use for it or sell it. I plan to put Linux on both the chromebooks

      • +1

        Thanks djevoultion.
I am not convinced that Chromebook offered by HP with 11 in screen and without touch is any good. I would rather buy a tablet. I was basically after 14 inch laptop.

        • Yeah I understand where your coming from but it's better than nothing. I suggest you sell the chromebook 11 for 250 to 280 on Gumtree when you get it and out that money towards another laptop with touch. I specifically asked if they could send the chromebook 14 instead but I was told that they could not do that.

        • +1

@djevoultion: Chromebooks are still a niche market, it's not like being able to sell a Windows PC. You will get more people asking "What's a Chromebook" than people actually wanting to buy one.

I will be holding out under threat of further action, I think the 11" Chromebook apart from being much lower spec in several areas is not as useful for the people I bought this for.

Can I also make a suggestion that people post here before making a decision. I think everyone will get a much better result if we do this together. You of course are free people and don't have to, but in my experience 5-10 people wanting something are much more powerful than 1 person wanting something, or 5-10 people wanting all different things. I think if the 14" Chromebook was on offer it would be at least closer to the original device than this one.

        • @Jackson: I spoke to them and no discount was offered they want an additional $329 for the Chromebook 14 as RRP is $499.

        • @adr8: Yeah but that's just silly, but that's not offering anything of value. You could get your money back and buy a chrome book for rrp any day of the week. Hardly a negotiated deal for them screwing something up? I ma going to tell them tomorrow I am going to fair trading and the accc F they do T either get me a slate book from somewhere or at least provide a 14" chromebook which still isn't as good as what I bought from them. Really we should be asking them to replace with an FHD 14" device, and that would be equivalent

        • +1

@Jackson: I was also offered to pay extra $349 for 10in Windows touch screen laptop. I told them that either provide HP Slatebook or provide any 14 in laptop. I am not willing to accept inferior product and if they have to refund money, include interest also. Although not much hopeful of any positive outcome.

        • @akd: I think you just have to stick to your guns here, I am doing the same

  • Can anyone recommend if I should get the Chromebook or not. Looks like it can run steam games on Linux, but unsure on graphics/performance wise.

    • +1

I had a play around at the store with one and liked it. I'd recommend the chromebook if you either primarily spend most of your time within chrome browser or are familiar with linux. Regarding games, It's a low end machine spec wise so I would not put my money on it running games well. You might get away with lower end games but I bet none of the latest games will run well. You could look into emulation for old school games (SNES, GBA, N64 etc). Also, I think if you have a desktop at home you can do steam streaming which would avoid the graphics issue.

If you are looking for a portable gaming machine I'd look at MSI or Metabox (Clevo rebrand) I think even Auroras and Gateway now have portable gaming machines at affordable prices.

      Good luck !

  • Got a second call from HP offering to give me a discount on the Chromebooks. Decided to decline and they said my refund will be processed now.

    • How much was the discount?

      • Yeah would be grateful if you would let us know how much for Chromebook 11 and 14?

        • I spoke to a rep this morning who mentioned there was a meeting currently discussing this very topic and would call me back when she had a chance to speak to the manager.

Got the call back, if I wanted to top up to the Chromebook 14 I would have to pay an additional $329 as the RRP is $499.

        • +2

          @adr8:

Ouch. Definitely not worth it. You can pick up the 14 version cheaper online or at a store

        • @adr8: What BS, the specs of the 14 aren't even as good as the slate book, they should be providing a similar product, not a heaps worse product and then charge you rrp for a better product, and what a joke! We should just all go to fair trading

      • No idea sorry. I didn't ask.

  • +3

I emailed them and said I dont want an 11" chromebook.
    I asked instead for a 11" $499 Pavilion.

They emailed back asking if I was willing to pay extra.
I responded NO. Its HPs fault you cant fulfill my order, Originally the slatebook was valued at $499 so I only think its fair

    Waiting for another response…

    • +1

Let us know what they say. I've been researching reviews on the Chromebook 11. I think I'd prefer the first generation - the laptop is much better designed (was designed with Google), is lighter and has an IPS display. The only trade off is a slower CPU and a few hours less battery life on G1. Wondering if HP have any of those still in stock

    • +1

I will be emailing them the same thing. I think we all need to sign up to making a fair trading complaint. I will let you know when I get to that stage and provide a case I'd when I have lodged one so you can all piggy back on mine.

What is the cheapest HP FHD device anyway? I am going to tell them that's what I should be getting, because the key part of the machine is the screen, so anything less is actually not equivalent

Just let them know they need to offer a FHD touchscreen equivalent device. I don't care which one really, I mean shit of someone sold you laptop and wanted to replace it with a lollipop is that fair?

Didn't someone complain to fair trading about dicksmith and nothing really happened as the price error wasn't a frequent occurrence?

HP are giving a refund as they have no stock and that's all they are required to do.

Yep, that's exactly what happened with Dick Smith. Look at all of those eBay sales. Dick Smith, Target etc raising their prices before the sale. That's illegal, but nothing happens if you report them. HP didn't even list the Slatebook in stock, so they'd get out of it really easy.
