MacBook 12" (MJY32X/A) 1.1GHz/ 8GB/ 256GB @ Good Guys $1709 (Pricematch via Officeworks $1623.55)

50

Been eyeing off this new piece of technology since it was released!

Goodguys have it online and instore for $1709 (so $90 off). They seem to have all colours in certain stores.

Couldn't see a better price than RRP of $1799 elsewhere in Aus.

Today Officeworks seems to have listed it at RRP of $1799. Ofcourse the price match over the phone worked wonders bringing it down to $1623.55 - and they have stock (only Space Grey though)

If you've been looking to buy, jump on it cause I think Officeworks will soon fix this price to match Goodguys at $1709!

Watered down processor better suited for a tablet, no dedicated video card and no usb ports. Sounds Awesome

    • Not to mention the first laptop that uses a keyboard with dipped in keys instead of protruding ones that feels like pressing a doorbell buzzer. No thanks. Better off buying the last of the MBA's..

      • force trackpad and comes in gold… that is all

Before buying this, please read reviews, and keep in mind you only have one port. As such, you have to allocate an additional $119 to buy the multiport adapter, just to use one usb whilst charging your brand new (useless) macbook.

I have a dell venue at work with the same cpu. it struggles with multitasking. I wont be downgrading my current pro to this toy

  • Previous comments are right, beautiful piece of technology but closer to a tablet than a laptop.

It is using USB-C port, which I have never heard before (no need to say that nothing at home is using this port).

    • It's been made for people that want a tablet experience with a keyboard but want the OSX OS hence why it's been so successful. Forums have been filled with people wanting full OSX on an iPad since it was released this is the answer

  • I have one and love it. Suits my needs perfectly. Got mine for $1618 @ JB HiFi three weeks ago.

      $1618? How?

Went in store to compare the MBA size and rMB size - I wanted to show my partner the difference as you cannot do this a the Apple store (I had decided to sell my 15" rMBP). The sales assistant was listening in the background while my partner and I were discussing the rMB and I was telling my partner that my uni campus pricing is much cheaper. The sales person approached and asked if we needed any assistance and advised that they had received their stock that day and he would give me 10% off, so I said if you discount the USB-C to USB adaptor as well I will buy one, and he did. I posted the receipt on Whirlpool the same day.

  • DWI is currently doing $1559 for Mac Book Pro (2015)

if it can PM with OW, it will be $1481?

    http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Apple-Macbook-Pro…

    • DWI is grey import. So no, no pricematch.

    • DWI does not sell AU stock. So OW will most likely to decline PM.

      • Thanks for clarifying

$1559 is still a good price I guess, considering Apple is doing International Warranty for MacBook?

        • Apples international warranty is 1 year. If bought in Australia, you can claim two years warranty.

        • +1

          @iampivot:
technically you can claim warranty repairs after a "reasonable" amount of time.

I got my rMPR's motherboard replaced for free couple months ago from the Apple Store, after purchasing it from David Jones about 2.5years ago.

DWI shipping from hongkong so add %10 GST because its over $1000. Also, OW will not pricematch overseas seller.

    • Currently only mbp 13 is worth purchasing. 13 was recently upgraded. Its battery life is more than amazing. The 15 hasn't been upgraded for a while.

Was considering to replace my rmbp 15 with a new 13, but 13 is as thick as 15, looks pretty bulky.so keep nice looking 15. mb 12 is a beauty, but that's all. Only one port is not a big issue. Usb-c is pretty cool.

Dick and jb run 10% off of apples stuff a few times every year(and thus weekend). This "deal" is kind of laughable.

      • rMBP 15 was in fact updated this week

        • You are right. I checked last week. The news was released 2 days ago. New 15 with same/new touchpad as 13&12.

  • My specced out Mid 2011 Macbook Air 11inch is still doing fine, so although I like the form factor of this and can deal with the single port, I'll wait a few generations until the speed has been improved (and hey, maybe they'll throw in another port or an SD card slot).

    • Don't think this will happen. Apple is stubborn and meanwhile apple leads the trend/fashion. I wish they could give both mbp and mba a big facelift, like what they did 3yrs ago with mbp(retina and super thin body for a 15 inch laptop).

      • It's not as if Apple have never changed their mind before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY4c2mh15Yk

The first Macbook Air had one USB port and no SD card slot. They later added a second USB port to both sizes and an SD card slot to the 13inch.

        • They also said the iPhone 4 had the perfect width, which is why they made the 5 longer…and the iPhone 6 and 6 plus.

          Wait what?

    Macbook 12' (MJY32X/A)

    12 feet macbook, pretty cheap.

    • you sire, must be the true king of the north, stannis baratheon

      • Amen.

  • Good price on a shell of alluminium with the specs of a phone.

  • There is no ozbrgainrumors.com.au, but if there was, I would put this on it

    Potential 10% on the weekend.

  • I know the deal with specs and USB-C… to be honest with all.. I fell in love with the size and weight. so for me its a winner!

    • +1

We are talking about if its a good deal, not what you think is a winner.

      • Understand ;)

      • Lots of people above commenting on much they dislike the laptop. If you can't get it anywhere cheaper then its a deal

        • Happens all the time on this site with Apple products. I don't understand why people bother commenting on this if they don't like the product

        • @padfoot07:
There are other people who do want to hear comments and/or views about products before purchasing. This is the other added value of OzB as a community of "Professionals" (Cough) and if people have prior experience to a product. You might exhibit a differing view, but it a view - good or bad and good to know if you going to purchase a product that may or may not fit you.

        • @bchliu:

I'm curious how many people in these comments have even used one hands on to be commenting?!?!

        • @ezza:
I've played with it for about half hour in Apple shop, I could have gotten used to the keyboard I guess but the ports were still an issue for me. So decided to go down the 13 inch MacBook Air way

        • @ezza: Anyone can walk into an Apple store to try it and formulate an opinion. I can probably get by with the slower processor (at the proviso of extra battery life). I can probably also get by the single port and relying everything else on wireless. But my pet peeve is the stupid keyboard. You do not know where the keys are because it really is flat and it has an awful feedback that I dont believe I will ever get use to.

  • 1.1GHz just sound terrible, it simply not able to perform any professional use (PS, CAD, etc.)

    • +2

It's not a 'professional' laptop. That's what the pro's are for.

  • OMG, look at that price. It looks like my next mistake!

  • $1537 with officeworks price match today to jb hifi's 10% off Mac prices of $1618.

Mind you officeworks fixed their price to $1709 over night to match goodguys but it doesn't beat jb today!

  • This is cheap…?
