We have been using 2 G526's here for over a year now and have never experienced a connection problem.
With Amaysim (optus) btw.Yep - I am scratching my head on this as I have a decent signal on my Amaysim in my N97 right by this one - I guess I should do the right thing, and swap the SIMs over, but I didn't want to lose my place in my music playlist, plus I have to fillde with the adaptor [ microSIM]:-p
OK - seems its carrier detection is also governed by info from the SIM - I'm now offered Amaysim [2,3,4G] as well, with nice healthy bars, but I haven't bothered turning my Amaysim 4G on yet.
Hehe, the N97. A foot-long thorn in Nokia's side.
@Tihocan:
As a $5 32 Gig media with FM broadcast it's a beauty - but if I'd paid $1000 for it as a phone, even the hero BP-4L wouldn't have consoled me, you could get those in the E63.You can have my two still strong BP-4ls when you prize them from my cold hands :-p
For those with this phone and are getting out of memory messages, the clean cache app from play store works.
TY for that - was scratching my head fluffing with Here maps - which it runs like a beauty, but it seemed not to realise it had downloaded the map it was showing LO.
Holding down the settings button at the bottom right for a couple of seconds will bring up the running apps and if you hit the brush pic it will clear them.
Never had an out of memory on mine yet… but it is rooted and everything possible moved to SD card. Thanks - had mine for 6 months, and discovering something new all the time.
If you haven't done so already go into settings and go to storage -> Default storage location, and select SD card as the default storage location, the phone will then use the SD card for many apps which use large amounts of data.
Even after doing the above some apps still store large amounts of data on the internal /data partition on the phone which is why the out of memory error comes up, the best solution for this is to install and run link2SD(pro version required to move internal data) and move some apps to the SD card using link2SD, rooted phone required to install link2SD.
So does anyone know off the tops of their heads what networks this will get 3G on.
I'm only getting Voda and Telstra listed in Marion, but had just posted the frequencies up higher while you were posting.
Edit - it seems it wasn't showing the optus choice with a voda SIM in, but it does offer Amaysim [All], which is on Optus.
I read somewhere, can't recall where:
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
When unlocked it works with all.
Does this come with the $50 Prepaid Sim Pack like DickSmith, I got one from DickSmith sale for $69 (with Wish Gift Cards bought from Groupon at 20% Off, so $55 net cost) and it came with the $50 Prepaid Cap Sim, so net cost for a Quad Core 4G VoLTE capable phone for $5 or net cost zero or less as I got 3 months Spotify as well :P
I don't recall the G526 ever coming with the $50 sim, I think you mean the Huawei Y550 from DS during boxing day sales?
There is a G526 forum on whirlpool.net.au for those wanting tips and tricks with this phone.
Great phone. Been rock solid for us.
Was a bargain at $99 in 2013. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122008
Great phone apart from the camera, but do any budget phones have a decent camera?Anyone know the cost of unlocking this unit.
Try Bagman or ebay, $3 to $5.
I would spend the extra $15ish and get the Y550 for $89 (I bought 2 at that price from DSE)
The Y550 looks newer and runs Kitkat, but screen on G526 is way better.
It has been on special at Kart for a while, same price at Target, but no stock anywhere.
Does this support TD-LTE?
Just wanted to save people time. Most Kmart stores don't have stock of any Vodafone prepaid phones. I saw the same price in Kmart Batemans Bay over a month ago and they said they haven't received Vodafone stock since December. Since then I've been searching all the Kmarts in my area and they only have the prepaid VF Smart mini.
Bang for YOUR buck. Sorry, its a disease. I blame my mother.
LOL - and Bagman thought he was going to get an Easter break :-p Good timing for the Amaysim users without a 4G unit who want to take advantage if he is still able to supply unlock codes. I have noticed mine sometimes drops the signal if in a borderline 4g area tho, and is only finding Vodafone R 4G inside where I am, and no Optus signal at all - but I'm in a weird spot where Voda are the best of the three.
Is Optus dropping 2100? The Voda model is the L22, which has:
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
4G bands LTE band 3(1800), 7(2600) - G526-L22
According to GSMArena.
