I can't see anything that says this is limited, but I also can't see how they can offer this much for so little (permanently.)
"Promotional period: Valid from 24.01.2015" But no end date. As this is month to month I assume they can just change it any time they like.

The CIS hasn't been updated for 8 months and is fairly generic anyway (and also says this plan has 2GB) - surely they are not allowed to have such an old document still in use?

I have been using their $29.90 unlimited super-saver for 6 months or so and, apart from the lack of MMS, am more than happy with price. To recharge this time for $19.00 was a nice little bonus. If it goes back up to what I was happily paying anyway, then it's hardly an issue or a TOTAL SCAM!!!!!
So, can you buy now and activate in March or May for the price?

I have 4g on my plan but leave it turned off because it rapes the battery. Most 4g quotas, including mine, are so limited anyway that streaming a few videos would empty it quite quickly.

I thought the same thing but it turns out 4G is more power efficient than 3G at keeping a connection.
4G doesn't use more battery or data. Your usage does. If anything 4G SAVES you battery while doing the same amount of things. But it loads faster, so you actually did more, that's where the extra data and power went.

My guess ist that they do this now as in March they will raise prices on their 29.90 plan (somebody working in a phone shop told me that this is might likely as many other providers have raised prices and that Lebara will also increase their prices).

Even $29.90 a month is great, beats the next best which is Amaysim for the exact same allowance at $45. Plus it uses the telstra network instead of optus

Yeah … Telstra is so much better than Voda and Optus that you can't really compare prices against each other at least when it comes to data. IMO. Telstra provides a network that works most of the time. The others do not.
However even at 29.90 this beats the pants off both Telstra Prepaid (4G 1GB $30, not unlimited calls … although I usually buy them for $15 or less and stock up) and Boost (Telstra 3G 2.5GB I think?)
While I think that's true for 3G, I'm not sure if it's still the case after Optus enabled their multi band 4G (700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600MHz)… it'd be interesting to see how that goes, obviously you'd need a phone that supports all those frequencies.
No its terrible. Does NOT include calls to 13 numbers. No sending or receiving MMS. No USB tethering. Forget it! Lebara unlimited national plan is much better at the same price!

It uses PARTS of the Telstra network. Good coverage in metro and some regional areas, go too far though and it won't work.
In my experience I havnt found anywhere the wholesale Telstra network doesn't work compared to regular telstra, I can list about 5 locations that have no optus signal whatsoever that work with wholesale telstra..
When I say parts, there are definitely areas that it will not work. For most people most of the time, including myself it will be fine. By too far I mean really quite far - it will not work for instance in Mt Isa or Weipa to my experience, places I sometimes travel too for work. I'm just putting it out there to people that this is not exactly the same as the full telstra network.

Do you use it often? I've never once sent nor received an MMS, with apps like Google Hangouts and Whatsapp etc theres no need to have mms
MMS is useful because it doesn't rely on a specific social networking service (SNS), so if the other person does not have Hangouts or Whatsapp, you can still send them a picture.
It's still useful when the other person you're trying to message hasn't given you their email address or is not willing to 'friend' you on a social networking platform.
WhatsApp uses phone numbers for identification and you don't need to 'friend' to send. They do need to have WhatsApp installed obviously.
I don't think I've ever sent a picture to someone who I didn't have their email address or wasn't my friend on a social network. If that rare occasion did come up, I'd just upload it to Dropbox and SMS them the link.

OP has got onto this early by the looks of things.. Lycamobile hasn't updated their CIS yet (it still mentions 2GB of data from May last year). There's nothing to suggest it'll revert to $29.90 straight after the first 30 days.

Sorry but if Woolies is still using Optus then the network you are getting is terrible relatively. Not a fair comparison IMO.
As a whole you have a point, though on an individual basis this isn't always the case. In my current town for example Optus is 8-15mbps down, 3-5 up. Telstra in the same location is ~12-16 down (more consistent speeds at peak) and near equal up.
Undoubtedly better service, though Optus is still more than ever needed.

You forgot to mention the $30 credit usable for premium purchases and $26 recharge (rather than $30, still includes $30 credit) when recharging online. Not to mention the $220 credit to call/text any Australian numbers which (keep it quiet, in before fix) oddly works for international calls/txt… Charges at about $1-2/min though from my experience. That's still great value when you look at it as an hour or two of international calls, 5gb of data and $30 premium credit for $26.
What can we use the $30 credit for premium purchases on? I totally didn't know about this/forgot.

Sadly google play isn't supported though, yet.
Personally I use it to buy currency on the online game Runescape and sell the virtual goods for real money or, more directly, purchase goods directly for others accounts with the credit in exchange for real money.
Usually results in 10-$15 AUD every recharge, knocking the recharge cost down to 11-$16/45 days ($26 online recharge) for a ton of calls and 5GB of data.
i have called them and the Lyca representative confirmed that this offer is valid till 28Feb but hopefully will be extended for 1 year…..

That would be optimistic, Kogan Mobile was $25-$30/month for unlimited calls/sms + 6GB and lasted barely half a year..

Will the Lycamobile card work in the Nokia Lumia 530 phone that was recently on sale from Coles given it uses Telstra? Of course the question refers to a locked (to Telstra) Nokia Lumia 530.
My Telechoice sim worked in the 530 no probs ABD that's just a telstra 3G reseller as well. So I'm gonna say yes.

No, it will not - unlike some other Telstra resellers (Aldi, Telechoice) who issue SIM cards with 896101 (501-01) prefixes, Lycamobile issue cards from the network code 505-19 (896119), so the Telstra locked phones will not support the Lycamobile SIM cards unless the phone is unlocked.
My Dad recently bought a Telstra-locked 530 from Woolies, and had to pay 50-odd dollars to have it unlocked so he could use his Aldi SIM in it. Ouch.
However, 12 months ago my wife bought a Telstra-locked 520 and her Aldi SIM worked with no problems. What changed?

Don't see why not - it's on Telstra, but 3G, so slower for most.
Seems a waste of included calls, unless you swap SIM into phone. Why not use a smartphone for calls & data (tether other devices to phone by WiFi, EDIT: but this Telco forbids that!).
But there are often cheaper options if you just want data. Recent Vodafone data & USB modem deal from Coles was $9 ($3/GB 4G). Woolies had $1 Telstra Starter Packs a few weeks back (50c/GB 4G). (All this was posted in BigW modem deal.)
Good idea to unlock modem so you can also use other providers - details in that deal.
Lycamobile have blocked people from using USB modems or tethering - therefore it will not be of any use if put into that USB modem.
Don't see how they could, they register on the GSM network the same. You just need to grab the APN name from your phone and enter it into the software for your USB modem. No way they could prevent tethering as the GSM connection is entirely handled by your phone and just routed to your PC over wifi/USB.
Based on my testing, it seems to be an issue that might be caused by the NAT that they run on all data connections. Can't get data flow on Personal Hotspot (iPhone), Tethering (Android) or either of a Huawei Pocket Wifi (Vodafone R208) or Telstra MF70.
In any case data only SIMs are usually much better value (still very bad value though of course).

Hi all, just called them on the phone and the guy said its monthly, not once only. Also mentioned if you top up monthly you get an extra 1 Gig ontop !! Hope its true. If others can call and confirm this, its a great buy for what I've seen.

Not anymore. You will get full HSPA+ (up to 42 mbps) on Telstra MVNOs. MMS are still not allowed though.
You may be able to connect to the cell tower at that speed but then all data goes through the Lyca gateway and gets slowed to a crawl apparently:
